Was that really trolling? For the most part, it seems to fellow was simply arguing against the predominant opinion with a few misconceptions added in.

He started off in the UE thread mocking nintendo fans. then repeated the same post to start posting in this thread. It was deliberate baiting

Sorry. Thread speed caused me to lose track of time. Two nights ago.

Ahhh.. that. You'll notice that I tend to intentionally stay away, haha..
(that, and enough people were engaging him anyway. No point in another person jumping in.)

That kind of situation doesn't bug me, honestly. It was one person. Here. But when Nintendo threads are pretty much taken-over by people only there to lay bait, over and over again? That's when I get a bit frustrated, and stuff like the teacher/student metaphor comes out.

It's probably why I've stuck to these threads so much.

I love it when folks project their true feelings elsewhere and then come in here seeking "honest discussion." Always a hoot.

If he just copy/pasted his post it was def trolling.

I didn't lay any bait or anything like that. I didn't log on to gaf today to get the guy banned. We were talking normally and he went nuclear muffin.

The Retro Studios Nintendo meme has become the most annoying thing. For a developer who changes staff significantly every three years, and no game of the year candidacy for 10 years... they sure do sit on a high pedestal. They are good folks. But there are western studios putting out much better games than Prime 3.

Agreed. Given all the love you'd think they'd have more than 1 game in the Neogaf top 50 Nintendo games. Its mostly a lot of talk.

Skiesofwonder

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
What argument? I barely had a thesis. Just my personal opinion pragmatically and lazily presented. And I said 10 years clearly to discuss everything after Metroid Prime 1. Which you summon back in your defense force! But I play a lot of games, and I just don't find Retro Studios to be a developer I would put in my top list lately. Assassin's Creed. Batman Arkham. Mass Effect. God of War. Uncharted. Bioshock. Crysis 2. Red Dead Redemption. Grand Theft Auto. Gears of War. I could go on. The West has soo many talented studios. I am not dismissing Retro Studios as much as I am recognizing the immensity of the situation.

Well you should of said nine, because Metroid Prime's 10 year anniversary comes up this November in NA. :p

As for said games, personally I would put maybe four of those on an enjoyment level compared to the Metroid Prime series (Uncharted, Red Dead, Batman, Gears) but opinions are opinions. Personally the only western developer that has a chance of developing for Wii-U and gets me more excited then Retro is Valve.

But considering none of those graced a Nintendo console, and Retro IS Nintendo's western studio; I still fail to see your overall point. We have no gurantee any of those series or developers will grace Wii-U (except Rocksteady/Batman and Ubisoft/Assassian's Creed) so right now for pretty much guranteed quality unique western support, all Wii-U has (right now) is Retro.

I see. This perhaps explains why he didn't respond to my point about the garden demo at last E3 rather straightforwardly displaying ≥360 quality outputs to two screens simultaneously.

Oh no.. not aiming my comments at your actions from this event.
(You are correct: he went nuclear. It was painful to read and I winced as I scrolled down the page.)

They opened E3 2010 with Skyward Sword. Actually they opened the last 2 E3s with Zelda.

I wonder if they will open this year with Zelda 3DS.

I am hoping for the 3D 'Mario World'.

Mario Galaxy was certainly a step in the right direction about where to take 3D Mario. Mario went back to its platforming roots from his slight deviation into the more adventure/platformer hybrid that were 64 and sunshine. Galaxy though, still held on to some aspects of its predecessors: large hubs, lots of menus and text, collecting stars, etc.

Galaxy 2 trimmed a lot of the fat, but it could have gone even further.

We have still not yet gotten the definitive 3D platformer yet.

Fully streamlined interface. Interesting world map with hidden levels. Multiple exits per level. Secrets. etc.

Only question that needs an answer is what will the art style be?

Knowing Nintendo, it could be anything.

Could be realistic.
Could be cell-shaded.
Could be both like Skyward Sword.
Could be something completely new.

I think The Legend of Zelda in the franchise with which Nintendo experimented the most on the art style side.

I hate to be that guy (ehthusiasm is cool and I hate people blowing it off with comments like this) but, too much Zelda!

Give me Metroid, Star Fox, Wave Race, F-Zero, StarTropics (lol), just something different that can be treated like a big boy Nintendo franchise for once, especially when we know Marios and Zeldas are always in development.

(I also find it hilarious that I can say this about Zelda but as soon as mainline Mario is mentioned post Galaxy 1, I'm hyped as fuck. :lol)

I know Aonuma said it's no indicator of what direction this Zelda will take, but I'd be okay with a New Legend of Zelda.

I want giant keys that I have to carry all the way across levels to giant keyholes, a la SMB3. Good stuff!

Since they've been talking about a LttP sequel/tribute/whatever, it'll be super deformed. If not Wind Waker, then a new re-imagining altogether.

A realistic Link in the classic top-down view style just wouldn't work. Camera's too far to read him well.

People keep guessing Super Mario Bros Wii U as a launch title. But in Nintendo Power's interview with Koichi Hayashida (Mario 3D land director), he said Nintendo has 2 Mario teams. The 2D team in Kyoto, and the 3D team in Tokyo. Since New Super Mario Bros. 2 is almost certainly coming from the 2D team in Kyoto (who is also most likely working on Pikmin as the Pikmin 1&2 director is part of this group), wouldn't it make sense the Mario game for Wii U launch/launch window is a 3D game from the team in Tokyo? I mean EAD Tokyo group 1 (Takao Shimizu) hasn't released anything since Mario Galaxy in 2007 (besides the Zelda 3D collaboration with GREZZO). They must have been working on something since then that is ready to show.

We know they've been working on it since AT LEAST November 2011.

The timing is perfect.

It's gonna happen. Bookmark this post if you have to. Zelda 3DS. Is announced. At this year's E3.

It's just a shame that too many Nintendo threads turn out "like that."

I'd believe that. Nintendo has gotten kinda predictable when it comes to its portable game release patterns, hehe..

Announcing Zelda for 3DS would help with a conference that's hopefully light of 3DS content in favor of showing-off the new console.

Aw man, Guek... He was one of the good guys.

If there was ANY high quality game inspired by Eva, especially End of Evangelion, and not in a stupid Xenogears ish way...

Even if it was friggin' Star Fox. Actually, that would be hilarious.
Well, i answered to the few who jumped to personal attacks though, and pointed them to their sins/wrong statements and very unfriendly/harsh and totally not suited for this thread behavior :p

But it's better to react that way, try to be zen, than engaging in a sterile quoting war and polluting the thread, my community management me talking.
Seriously dude, you're not a mod.

It'd be very hard to fail at E3 with all the Wii U stuff AND a new 3DS Zelda.

I almost feel sorry for the other companies but maybe Nintendo's showing won't be quite like I expect.

I doubt it could surpass it...

Thinking about it, Nintendo actually doesn't have a lot they can show that would get people unequivocally excited.

Mario and Zelda, sure...unless Zelda looks like it plays like Phantom Hourglass. It could eventually be the best Zelda game ever, but people won't be excited for more of that as a reveal.

Metroid? Instant bad memories of Other M, unless it's first person or they go in a new direction. (Even though I was personally fine with Other M...)

Star Fox? Lol hasn't been a good one since 64 (whether true or not). Not very exciting.

Pikmin? Cool I guess. Not a core gamer's game though.

New WiiU Sports? Everyone would groan even if it's amazing.

Now, Smash Bros., that could be an excellent reveal. And brand new franchises have the potential to go in any direction. And finally for me personally, a new RPG-style golf game in cooperation with Camelot.

The question is "is there any significance to the "New" being capitalized in indicating style???"

E3, we may find out, I hope there is.

I'm wondering the same thing. Old-school, top-down Zelda would be a welcome return after all the hand holding/fluff in Skyward Sword and the more experimental DS games.

I think a 2D mario game that is actually good looking, and a teaser/trailer for a Monolith game would get people hyped. Throw in Pikmin and the Retro game for bonus, and if people aren't feeling that then they are trying too hard.

The more I think about it, the more it makes me happy.

To be completely honest, during the GBA, DS, DS Lite, and 3DS content of their shows, I'm usually sitting in my chair saying, "Okay.. c'mon. That's nice. Let's get to the console stuff. Okay, yes, we see that, it's adorable. We'll see all of that on the demo floor later - show me some console stuff already, sheesh."

So having that portion of the show dominated by 3DS Zelda content would make things so much more pleasant and easy.

So I'm on a project in Austin, Tx and I'm staying at a Marriott which is literally 2 minutes away from Retro's office location.

I should try to have lunch where retro employee's might have them. Who knows, I might overhear things. :p

When I fly back into Austin, Tx on monday, I'll stop by the office location just to check it out. It'd be interesting to see what kind of building retro offices are in. I see that they are in a suite, so it might not be impressive.

So what game / compilation of demonstrations will be bundled with the WiiU? All the sports seem to have been done: I think we might be looking at a completely different set of interactive 'games' to demonstrate the hardware capabilities.

There's a good chance the bundled game will come pre-installed.

But I really do hope they make a new First Person Adventure. Step up to the big league and see how they stack up against the competition.

I'll give you Prime 3 wasn't as great as I would like to seem them being (although I still enjoyed it very much), but DKCR was really something special and proves to me that they still have it.

Also I don't understand how saying they make good games and wanting them to make games in Nintendo franchises is a meme.

I would actually like to see New Legend of Zelda.

A simple, polished, old school-yet modernized experience.

no gimmicks, just 2D open overworld, dungeons, tons of secrets, cool weapons, relevant combat.

There has never been a modern take on the original LoZ gameplay. Zelda 2 was different as was a link to the past. All the 3d games have followed a more linear - story driven -combat light/puzzle heavy approach.

I just want to see an original IP that retro claim to be there own. They have worked on Metroid and Donkey Kong, I want them to work on something unrelated to an existing IP.

This is what I'm excited about, not that I'd hate a few levels or ideas that harken back to 64's adventure-style (like maybe a select few huge "levels" with multiple objectives and paths). But I firmly think 3D Mario needs to move in the direction of super precise controls/physics and camera, and level design more akin to SMB3/World.

I agree with this too. But instead make it a mainline Zelda.
