Playstation All Stars Battle Royale Discussion thread [Up: Leakfest #11]

I still honestly believe the name is way too long. Cut either all stars or battle royale.

I think they're trying to be forward thinking and "Battle Royale" is their subtitles like"Brawl" or "Melee", the main title of the series will be Playstation Allstar, so the sequel will be called Playstation Allstar something

It's not like Super Smash Brothers Melee (or Brawl) is a short name. I do understand that we can call it "Smash" but I don't see what's so long about "Playstation All Stars" when we have games like "Metal Gear Solid", "Super Mario Galaxy" "Final Fantasy 13 (thirteen)". If it's too long just call it "PAS" or "All Stars"

The fact that the website is down/redirects to the Playstation.com version of it makes me think they're seriously going to rebrand it at E3. They'll probably just cut it down some as you guys have been saying. The anticipation of what the other characters will be is killing me ... also that Playstation Experience tour is too far away ;( The wait this summer for August (the PA stop) is going to kill me as well. Here's hoping the newly revealed characters will be playable on the tour!

I think they will. Maybe they are going to announce it at e3 for shocking news, along with Cole.

The Official name of the game is

PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale.

Playstation Battle Royale seems way better. A battle royale is 3 or more fighters, so we know what kinda game it is.

And it has Playstation in the name of the game, so you can infer that there will be playstation mascots fighting in this royale.

Thats my suggestion anyways.

Its probably pretty trivial at the end of the day, but any little bit helps I say.

Depends on if they want "Playstation All Stars" to be a brand name for an ongoing franchise or not, I guess. Doesn't really matter either way honestly; people are going to call it whatever they want and I hardly think the name is going to effect sales in any meaningful way.

It's a hugely missed opportunity that they never opted for Playstation Battle Opera in the end; I think we can all agree that was a pretty definitive title.
Yep. but I don't mind PlayStation Battle Royale either. Just get rid of 'All-Star'. PlayStation alone should imply 'All-Star'.

For those wondering how the logo would look like, I messed around with PS a little.

^^^ It's better but I want the original PlayStation logo not this new one, too flashy for me.

Someone please replace all these heads with PlayStation characters :p

This is the biggest attempt of desperation i have ever seen in existence of any gaming company or manufacturer. Fans of this should feel embarrassed to celebrate such a waste. I literally double take the thread assuming it was fan made. lol

Damn Sony :/

Who would the teacher in the middle be?
Kaz Hirai?
Lead developer?
(not doing it myself btw)

Kutaragi.

Now who would be Shuya and Noriko?

I'm also not a fan of the long name. Maybe over time All Star or Battle Royale will be dropped like how "Ultra" was dropped from the Nintendo 64.

Playstation Battle Royale is a much better name. The logo doesn't look great though. But given the game, I guess it works...

Combovers don't work when there is no hair
I also hope they drop the online pass, but that's wishful thinking. :/

That's not gonna happen :p

And the talk about dropping things made me think of 'drop it like it's hot', which again made me wish they'd sell Snoop Dogg as DLC, and his special move would be pulling out a giant spliff that he'd use to smack the other fighters around, or he'd light it up and puff smoke at all the others, making them so stoned they'd fall out of the arena.

If this game is called Playstation Battle Royale, it will be and instant success at colleges across the nation. "Yo, lets get some PBRs and play PBR while drinking our PBRs".

I hope not, that doesn't seem very Playstationey. It seems as stupid as James bond to me.

Why not? Most street fighter games have been on Playstation and I think all Mortal Kombat games have been on playstation (except GB ones I guess). I guess Tekken would give off a better "playstation" feel since all of them have been on playstation and were exclusive to playstation at one point.

That's not enough, there needs to be a special connection or you could just say any
old stupid shit should be in the game

A Tekken character would be fine with the first 5 or so being playstation exclusive

Who said there has to be a special connection? all we know is that they are looking into adding third party characters that have appeared on Playstation. Smash has Snake and there has only been one MGS game for the GCN.

Playstation all stars, but there doesn't have to be a special connection to Playstation?
Just having a game on it isn't enough, or you could have anything like Barbie or Goku and other stupid suggestions like that, that would be like some sort of horrendous fan fiction.

Ryu is probably one of the biggest known characters in fighting game history, so I don't see how he doesn't qualify as an "all star". He was even in one of the biggest fighting games in history, Marvel vs Capcom 2, and that was also on PS2. Please don't compare barbie or goku with Ryu (although I wouldn't mind Goku to be there!)

So you guys think a Mortal Kombat or Street Fighter character will be in it?

There's a chance, especially given recent crossovers.

Can't say that I really want to see them personally. Ryu and Scropion would probably be the ones in, and I kinda think they've been in enough fighting games already (especially Ryu).

In games like these, I usually prefer seeing non-fighting game characters.

Of course I know how big Ryu is, but this is a celebration of Playstation and there's nothing "Playstation" about him. Snake fits because all the main ones were released first on Playstation and sometimes never appearing anywhere else, or not for years.

The only 3rd persons that should/will be allowed are people like Crash and a Snake that were exclusive for a while or special on Playstation in some way. Makes me mad when people suggest things like Etzio who is multi-platform and will be forgotten after this gen

You guys are forgetting that Omar said "we haven't come across a character that we didn't think could fit in Playstation All-Stars" so... I'm just assuming anything is possible at this point and praying some awesome, obscure characters I love make the cut.

If it's a fighting game that celebrates the PS history makes sense to include Tekken and Street Fighter because they have been the 2 main fighting games during the PS history.

And well, Street Fighter EX2 and 3 were PS exclusive as I remember. And the PS Home reward items too xD

IGN did a Playstation Conversation about their biggest worry: the super only KO system:

http://www.ign.com/videos/2012/05/22/playstation-all-stars-battle-royale-lacks-punch

This is what worries me as well. A friend of mine made a suggestion to me that gave me hope for their reveal at E3: if they just have more stages with ring outs, like Sandover Village. In Sandover Village, the fish kills you if you fall in the water. I want more stages like that at least and then I'll be happy with the super only KO system. What do you guys think?

Its not IGN ,its just Greg Miller.

I agree with you about more stages having out of the ring Ko in some levels. But we did see other unique ways you can die in the game like the LBP stage.

This is a very good idea as well. I would be down for that. Very nice.

Keep a variety of stages and maybe an option to toggle hazards (Hades shockwaves, killer golf balls of death) on and off. It would make the LBP stage half useless because the Buzz part is pretty much a huge hazard, but it would be nice to have a choice.

Agree, it would work well with the current KO system. Ring outs should definitely be more emphasized in the game.

We know you're reading this Superbot, make it happen!

I just think that if you will base your system on super KOs, all the characters should be balanced when it comes to that.

So if you're making them all unique it's going to be a bit tougher to get the balance in there, like we're already seeing with Parappa.
