The music is back. Have a strange feeling that
Riko and Kaoru relationship is going to change once again and who knows what will happen with the triangle of Sentaro, Jun and Yarika

Oh yes those are! You could even say that Rufuira!! is an exception to his... habitual ways.
Habitual ways, huh? But yeah, isn't that kind of thing, a manga artist doing H-doujins of his own characters, somewhat uncommon?

The Light of El Cantare
I wouldn't say it did anyone's reputation any good. Not that it was great to begin with.

I'd say that this whole experience was a huge lesson in picking one's battles, but any battle between AnimeGAF and the rest of GAF is a loss by default anyway.

Tsuritama 7

The fallout of last week's events was incorporated deftly into the other plot threads the show is developing. (
Moving from the single boat performing the dance at the end of last week to the multitude of boats this week is rather ominous and drives home the feeling of growing dread.
) The continued character development of Haru (who had a rare vulnerable moment where he spoke in a voice quite unlike how we've heard him until now) and Akira, caught between his personal and professional desires, fit right in alongside that. Yuki continues to grow as a fisherman, and the portrayal of his fishing is still dynamic.

But the real focus of this episode was Natsuki, whose conflict with his family came to a climatic confrontation. While last week's intensity wasn't (and really couldn't be) continued, the searing personal impact of these events provided intensity of a different nature. I really liked the use of shadow in this scene, which injected a darker current into the show's normally bright and cheerful visuals.

There were a few moments where the character art looked a bit off and a couple distance shots with low animation, but it wasn't a big deal.

Can't wait for next week!

Not really but

A) That thread was a trap for everyone involved

B) Some people where posting the kind of comments that many people would find odd/play into their preconceptions and

C) Most people from this thread weren't being serious, but that might not be apparent to anyone outside this thread or to people who lurk Animugaf.

I didn't feel like the scenes with Natsuki in the end flowed that well in the end.
It's like all the instances were disjointed or something.

Dunno if that's the best way to describe what I was thinking, but can't really think of anything else.

Meanwhile, Kids on the Slope really hit it big this time.
The last 3-4 episodes, I was more into tsuritama, but this week it's reversed.

I think I can maybe pick out one from that vote line-up (Rukia), the other I don't know by name, but I'll stop there for fear of reprisal!

I did feel that the
near crash
was rather sudden and somewhat confusing. I'm sure that was the intent, given how the show has handled similar matters, but it was perhaps a bit much this time.

This goes back to what I feel has been a general flaw with Kenji Nakamura shows: fast, sharp editing that borders on the incoherent and obtuse. This hasn't generally been a problem with Tsuritama, but it has shown up on a couple occasions.

Kids on the Slope 07:

REDEEMED. A MILLION TIMES OVER REDEEMED.

I'm amazed. Not only did this episode completely make up for all of the forced drama in episode six, but the climactic scene was the best thing in the series so far. Never has teenage melodrama been this incredible.

What an absolutely amazing way for Kaoru and Sentarou to patch up their relationship. Fortunately, most of this episode had already forsaken the terrible shouting and storming off of the previous episode for much more subtle expressions of conflict using body language and scene framing, but the explosive reestablishment of friendship after so many failed and awkward attempts to make up was perfection.

It wasn't unexpected that the two would make up through jazz, but the fact that their impromptu session at the school festival was a medley of every song that had thus far carried some extra significance to Kaoru through the series gave the scene an intense and cathartic emotional power. It was a completely musical conversation between two characters executed with amazing deftness--everything that was being said was perfectly understandable without words. A huge fucking triumph for everyone involved with this.

Yes, Datfang was still in the episode, but he received much less screen time, was never a source of conflict, and the events of the episode actually managed to make him slightly sympathetic before summarily giving him the boot from the plot. I felt slightly bad that his dreams had to be crushed to pave the way to Sentarou and Kaoru rekindling their bromance, but if you really really hate him, it's probably a satisfying end.

I also have to take a moment to compliment some really incredible animation in this episode. I know that it could all just be rotoscoped like the drum scenes, but during the big scene at the end, there were various quick cuts to students all over the school that had fantastic and lifelike motion to them, like this:

GQPx0.gif

Just great. The energized motion was absolutely vital to conveying the atmosphere of the scene, so I really appreciate touches like these.

That's the episode the bahi jd dude worked on too, I wonder if he'll post the layout and stuff of the scene he did on his tumblr. Hope he does. And I need to catch up on this show.

I'm glad someone made a gif of that, because I'm pretty sure that's part of the work he did on the episode. Now I can use the gif to ask him on twitter! :)

This happens fairly frequently when you watch a show week-by-week, as it airs. Inconsistent is a by product of the way animated television shows are produced in Japan, it's extremely rare for them to be as consistent as a movie.

With this show, however, it was slightly different. This is because:

A) Kids in the Slope was a show with a lot of 'hype' surrounding it because of the staff involved with the production.

B) For the most part, the show had delivered good, ranging to great, episodes every single week.

C) Last weeks episode didn't feel badly made, both the characters and their interactions felt weird and forced. This was very disappointing considering what we'd seen so far and it was a worrying sign for future episodes. This was a pretty significant 'low point' in the series which makes to the contrast to this weeks episode all the stronger.

I lack your .gif powers.

Regarding that character, I can't be the only who noticed how
toned down his antics were compared to last weeks episode. Last week he was channelling Haru-levels of over the top energy, moment and general ludicrousnesses. This week he was still noticeably flamboyant, but it was rather more realistic.

Dude broke their concentration, yo. Poor kids are trying to be artsy and he just storms all up into their business.
artsy, but also cool and distant, which is why he's looking at art over his shoulder instead of facing it like a normal person. he's not some art nerd, he's a cultured man who nonetheless has an image to maintain and other priorities in his life.

Yay, I got confirmation from BahiJD. That is indeed his work as I suspected. Also, he has this to say: "I also drew all the layouts for the whole scene, 9 cuts / 9 layouts, and animated 3 of them."

I hope he does too. He did the key and in between animation on this episode along with Nobutake ITO (Who I didn't recognize but seems to have worked on a ton of amazing stuff) according to ANN.

Edit: And now confirmed by Duckroll

Arata is the man.
He is so far away and hasn't been in contact with Chihaya for a long time but he made her so happy with his message on her birthday. While Taichi is just a loser that tried to kiss Chihaya and failed

I really like the motion and the weight of characters in that .gif. It conveys the excitement and energy of the scene in a notable manner without looking unnatural and odd. It's also remarkable to see all the characters in the background actually react in their own unique ways rather than some generic 'turn head to centre of attention' thing.

No, just no. Arata is nothing. He gets to be some mythical fantasy Chihaya builds up while Taichi is knee deep in it.

Pretty good, not amazing or anything. I do really enjoy when the imagery starts getting surreal in this show.

I'd use the postcard at the end for this post but I guess its kind of a spoiler. Outstanding episode though, I think everyone has been waiting for something like this. The last section of the episode was very energetic, pretty awesome to watch really.

Heh, I remember this show was airing and people were split into team Arata and team wrong. Fun times for all involved.

Was there ever word on whether some of the animation in Apollon is rotoscoped? I remember some people mentioning it a while ago.

Yeah, the playing-music scenes are. You can tell as well, if you're paying attention, but it's done really well. I can't imagine the show working without them resorting to that technique.

Kids on the Slope 07:

The lead up did a great job of building the atmosphere and tension between Kaoru and Sentarou, leading up to the great finale scene. The animation and pacing of that sequence was wonderful, and as the gifs have already shown, had a beautiful energy to them that really brought the excitement of the people rushing to to the gym to life. I really liked the lighting in this scene in the middle, just as things are still awkward, but just hit the turning point where they want to reconcile.

Kore wa Zombie desu ka? of the dead 8

I can't believe they're adding
Ayumu's and his parents' killer
to the harem. This is amazing.

And can someone PLEASE gif Kyouko on the swing. One of the funniest things in the series.

Never saw eye to eye with Arata fans. They're basically the scientologists of anime fandom. Arata is Xenu.
Arata is essentially the otaku dream. Be super obsessed with something obscure, show it to a pretty girl, she falls head over heels for you and your dumb hobby.

It's easy to be "the man" when you're such a blank slate that anyone can read whatever they want into you.
