Mass Effect 3 Spoiler Thread |OT2| Taste the Rainbow

My friend finished the game at 7AM, high has fuck. He couldn't understand what was happening. He got to bed. Woke up this morning " dude, I dream about the worst ending possible to ME3 ! but now I try to load my game and it says I completed the game, I'm getting nervous, what part was dream what part was the game ? "

And he's still not recovering :(

This can't be fucking true.

In his dream, was his copy of ME3 engulfed in flames after chasing it through a haze of weed smoke?

Man, i had to reinstall Windows and i lost all my saves... i thought Origin would save my campaign files on its server like my multiplayer characters and weapons, but noooo.

Now i'll have to do it again for when the ending DLC will show up. ;_; Oh well, at least i won't have to witness the original ending again since i'll just stop once i reach Earth.

Probably because of the Take Back Mass Effect initiative.

No, critics have pulled this shit before Mass Effect. I can't say precisely where from memory, but I have seen this use of 'entitlement' before. Just not so often or collectively.

Referring to the 'take back' effort (I will admit I do think this goes a bit far, but then we also need some vehicle of social action to make this point clear to EA / Bioware, so it's that or nothing) as 'entitlement' is only a scarecrow-tactic. It's using a collective effort as an automatic form "injust resistance", which of course is merely faulty reasoning.

I do have to say that knowing your background, makes your view on ME3's story highly suspect to me. Are you sure you're looking at this from a player perspective of story?

He does have a point though. The campaign grabbed a lot of attention and unsurprisingly subsequently set the tone for the response. Which is not to say that the press shouldn't consider it representative of everyone who dislike the ending, but hey, this doesn't just befall the enthusiast press.

Fuck the press. "Gaming journalism" at its finest. Any journalist hack that sat through that ending and can call the fans entitled are people who shouldn't have a fucking job in the industry because they shouldn't be taken seriously at all.

I seriously doubt most of the people who attacked the fan backlash had actually completed the game themselves/played through the trilogy. Which to be honest, is even WORSE than if they actually had finished ME3.

You even saw it happen here, some in this very thread (or OT1), where they think we were overreacting and called us entitled and wrong and other things. Then they finished the game.

You guys should try throwing a shockwave at an enemy then immediately locking on with a heavy melee while playing the batarian sentinel.

Some legitimately do like the ending though and think everyone's overreacting. And honestly, I do think it's really not worth much more outrage than "come on, really, that's how you end it?" before moving on to forget about ME. Hell, I only even looked here again because of the bumped thread in the general board.

Yeah, I should've gone on to say that as well. In particular I like how Jessica Chobot, the worthless "journalist" she is criticized fans/gamers and called them entitled when she didn't even beat the game herself.

I think the outrage stems from the schism between most of the game, the potential of the series, and what they ended it on.

i regret nothing.
we'll bang ok?

I always tune in to BATTLE TITS!

I still don't get why she's even in the game, they already had a reoccurring character in Emily Wong that would have fit perfectly into the role. Seems like wasted potential there. Even if your using quotations, calling Jessica Chobot a journalist still seems like a vast over exaggeration.

I do agree that some of the fan reaction was overboard, but most of what I saw was legitimate criticism; and last I checked criticism happens in every variation of entertainment.

EDIT: I also forgot Khalisah al-Jilani is another reoccurring reporter that could have been used, and maybe a better idea then Emily.

The fans may have overreacted, but the worse overreaction was from the press. It's not like people were sending Bioware death threats or anything. They simply organized themselves and sent Bioware some cupcakes. Cupcakes. That's it. Most of the movement was fairly civil.

EatChildren

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
EatChildren was like this right after he finished the game.

He came around, eventually.

It was a horrible realisation and I hope I never go through such things again.

I still think the "Western MGS4" is objectionable, but only because that entire game was a narrative disaster. That game continually screwed over the canon, and the ending was the cherry on top. ME3, flaws and all, was something I enjoyed quite thoroughly until the ending. I can pick apart much of the narrative, but I'm not bothered by it. Except the ending. That was what ruined everything.

Which I guess makes it all the worse.

I just had a couple of multiplayer rounds after having let the game sit untouched for a few weeks. Even hearing the menu music fills me with dread. The game embodies everything I'd define as 'disappointment'.

This I'll agree with, and as I've said before, as someone who is press I found it tremendously embarrassing. Folk like Jim Sterling proved you can completely disregard critical and logical thinking, launch into an all out attack and dismal against a huge group of people who did nothing inherently wrong, and get paid for it.

To be fair, Jim did eventually perform a full 180 and started agreeing with the fans that the ending was horse shit, and that consumers should be allowed to voice their complaints when they're not satisfied.

So I'd avoided the leaks, any spoilers and all DLC. Just finished ME3--went green.

Impressions:

Why can bioware afford to mo-cap strippers and little kids, but not my main character? Did male-Shep look as absolutely atrocious when running as my fem-Shep did? Anderson ran crazy too. Having that be my first taste of ME3 was off-putting. Felt like amateur hour.

Didn't mind the weapon and armour mods. Better than ME2. Closer to ME1 in variety but much better executed.

Liked the music better than ME2.

Total shit-show ending. I'm not going to be able to add anything new to the discussion, but I can't stop myself. To be proud of that ending takes a certain degree of self-delusion.

This game deserved some CG end-scenes that actually showcased all the freak'n work I'd put in to it. I saved that queen--twice, and the only freak'n rachhni I see are the ones with laser's on their freak'n heads shooting at me. Great, I get to see a thresher maw vs reaper. Never asked for that, but thanks. How about a few scenes I've been building up to for five years over multiple play-throughs?

And to have me finally make peace between the geth and the quarians only to have some last-minute god-child tell me peace is impossible is insulting. Well, in and of itself that's fine--god child can think whatever he wants. For my fem-Shep to just go along with it was BULLSHIT.

I don't care if she was on the verge of death--that scene was wretched. Totally broke character.

I am SO GLAD I stuck to my guns and got this from the LIBRARY like I swore I would. Take that EA. And its too bad because I actually really enjoyed 90% of ME3. You scared me with the direction ME2 took--and the "fight or die" marketing of ME3 sealed the no-purchase deal for me. I'm done gambling with my money. Sure I'm months late to the party, but the ending to ME3 is so bad it sours the other 90% of the game (for me).

Glad I didn't pay for it. And I don't do DLC or multiplayer, so it seems this franchise is now dead to me.

Thanks for the good times. It's a shame they couldn't last.

*that .png of possible ending is pure genius. And by pure genius I mean what every rational human being expected from this trilogy. How they could offer us RGB and not show any real consequences to all those gameplay choices is astounding. Why exactly did I fix that potential leak in engineering? ETC.

You should watch the DLC character's scenes on YouTube, he's a great addition to the series and more conversive than characters that shipped with the game.

Thanks for the tip. He doesn't pull any midoclorian shit does he? Blow some of the Prothean mystique to pieces?

In a way yes, how the galaxy in the current cycle view the Proteans were is essentially wrong but I thought it was quite interesting at the same time, and he also explains why they don't look like the statues on ilos, lol.

So I finished the game today and feel like I have wasted far too many hours doing this that are completely inconsequential. The ending just seems to completely ignore the rest of the game, actually no, the rest of the 3 games.

How did they think it was ok to make so much of the games so completely pointless? I kept doing side missions and mini-quests assuming it would make the ending different but from what I can tell it makes fuck all difference.

I can see why people are pissed off about it, for a series which prides itself on choices the consequences of those choices have ultimately boiled down to nothing.

It's ok man.

Turns out Shepard was indoctrinated and the end of the game is just him dreaming.

Not really. It's more that the Protheans were a lot different than what was perceived and I found that a refreshing twist. He's a love him or hate him type character imo, but a very interesting one. That and he's a badass in combat as well. I had him on my team 99% of the way. Bioware pulled a very huge dick move and fucked over the fanbase by having him as DLC.

Stop feeling so entitled. It's just a game.

Even after the dust has settled BW's little turd gift to the gaming world keeps sending more refugees to this thread.

It can almost be stated as an objective observation that this ending totally sucks.

Finding it hard to discern if this is sarcasm or not...

Either way, BioWare themselves are entitled to a better ending than that.

Also, just read all of the Marauder Shields comics, they're actually rather intense and how I would have much preferred it to go down.

The indoctrination theory is starting to make sense but that doesn't make the ending any better unfortunately.

The cycle is still going. That's pretty messed up.
We'll get to OT3 eventually, my friend. Then wellbangok?

Check the massdefect tumblr.

It's more thorough than the OP.

OMG you're not kidding. Just watched a bunch of youtube scenes--BioWare have become a bunch of dickheads. This guy was optional DLC? Really? You had time to write, voice and compose all those freaking scenes but you only had time for a colour-swap ending? And a shit-one at that?

Grrrrrr. They've earned all the scorn they've received over this IMHO.
