DOOM 3 BFG Edition - Remastered, Armour-mounted flashlights + DOOM 1 & 2 [360/PS3/PC]

Doom 4 will be a hell of a lot closer to Doom 3 than it will Doom 1 or 2. So, I disagree.

And id hasn't made a true classic in 2 decades. I'm not sure what people expect out of them.

Doom 3 is an OK game, and Doom 4 will probably be an OK game too. Same with Rage.
You're absolutely correct on all of your points, and yet it still makes absolutely no sense from the perspective of marketing. You don't sell games by emphasizing how "OK" they are or will be. They'd probably do better if they sold on style and name recognition, not substance.

I actually really liked the original but wasn't able to finish it because I only rented it. I would check this out if it weren't coming in the fall.

Where is the Vita version? Resistance proved to be a disappointment but I still want a Vita FPS, and I've always loved Doom 3. Come on Carmack, I thought you were interested in portable devices.
Now THAT would be cool. I would love to see this game on Vita as it would really shine on an OLED screen.

Doesn't appear to look much different. Definitely not on par with Sikkmod. :(
Graphics aside - the genre has been redefined by DS, this will feel hopelessly dated. That said I'd still consider it if it had Move support (and 60fps, obviously).
I rather doubt the former though.

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
Let's warn them console gamers about it before it's too late!

But I guess it should have been expected, HD re-releases are all the rage lately.

I can't even notice anything enhanced in the trailer. It looks like Doom 3 with a flashlight mod.

Edit: wait, port begging? For this? Now I've seen everything, GAF. Edit: oh, it's for Vita. I guess it doesn't count, it wants any game.

FUCK YES! TAKE MY MONEY! I actually got onto Id's facebook last year and asked them why the fuck they haven't released a remastered version of Doom 3 for the current systems. Guys, you can thank me for this. Seriously.

Dead Space?

Meh, always preferred Doom 3 myself.

Until you walk outside and the glare of lights make the game unplayable.
I don't see why that is even a problem. Why would anyone want to play Doom 3 outside to begin with?

I own Doom 3 on both the PC and xbox but will also be buying this. It's not the greatest shooter, but it's certainly entertaining.

DOOM 3 now features the new armour-mounted flashlight, allowing players to illuminate dark corners and blast enemies at the same time.

Not sure how I feel about this. I never minded the design that forced you to choose between a flashlight or your weapon.

I played (most of) Doom 3 with sikkmod only a few months ago. Going by the trailer this definitely doesn't look as good. Its an ok game, but not something I would replay anytime soon.

They need to add that crazy gore mod to Doom 2.

Hopefully this means a Quake HD version is in the works too!

I'm inclined to believe they could pull it off

They could definitely pull it off. That's the best part about id Tech, it's always really optimized. I really wish more developers would embrace the Vita with low risk projects like this could be. All the content is done and the engine is most likely easily ported.

I loved Doom 3. Co-op was great and it was just scary as hell. Loved the atmosphere and the generally pacing. I think this is a great idea and easy money for id.

7 new levels? Day fucking one. I'm gonna do a full-blown replay when this baby hits on PC. I bet it will have Steam Achievements too!

I remember the hype in PC Gamer over DOOM 3. It was kind of nuts. I used to read and re-read the articles they had about it whenever I went to the library.

Remember seeing a lot of print ads for Enclave, lol. Anyone remember that one?

All of you saying Why, its pointless, etc..need to realize that not everyone has the time to play all the big releases when they come out.

As someone who never got to play Doom 3, this sounds awesome and i can't wait!!!

Wonder if the old Doom/Doom 2 will get any bells and whistles like transparencies, lighting effects of fireballs and 'mouse look.'

Probably not.

Just saw this in the Kotaku article:

Fuck that. Am I the only one who actually liked the flashlight mechanic the way it was?

Man, why can't they rerelease the real DOOM 3? I still need to play it.
That's right, I'm talking about

I've played the first half of 3 on oXbox; have to say I like the tension caused by not being able to do both at the same time. Pretty awesome.

Edit; WOW the PC version of Enclave looks so much better than the Xbox version. Geez.

Will probably buy this so i can play Doom 2 on my PS3 lol
Same here. And to be able to play Doom 3 on the PS3 also. :) Is it wrong that I'm excited for this? I played Doom 3 back on the OG X-Box and loved it. I never got to play the expansion pack though.

I can definitely see myself picking this set up.

Are Doom 1/2 gonna be those awful ports (visually) that are currently available on 360? Or are they gonna roll with something like Zdoom this time for the OG pixel style but with proper 1080p widescreen support?

Because Zdoom with a pad on my 42 in TV look and feels pretty damn great.

I want it remade in idtech 5 with iron sights, not fussed about what they do with the flashlight.

Doom 3 was a great game when it came out, and it still looks good on PC with a few tweaks so unless there are some drastic improvements I don't think it's worth getting the PC version again. For PS3 players, it's totally worth it.

We won't be getting those cheap scares anymore for sure. The game did feel like it was built around that artificial limitation so I'm not sure how well it'll work out.

We don't know yet, but it seems hard to believe that they won't be the XBLA versions. I haven't downloaded those - are they just distorted or something?
