It seems likely that they'll start it on a Monday, so it's either the 25th or the 2nd. I'm going with the 2nd (because that's after I get paid).

Qunatum Conundrum is coming out the 21st, and it's pretty much a given that no independent or smaller budget games are going to be released during the summer sale. I remain confident it'll be from the 24th-26th.

The Penny Arcade game comes out on the 25th though...

Given that the 4th falls on a Wednesday, it's tough to predict the start of the sale. The end will almost certainly be before the weekend of the 6th.

Hey guys, it's now time to upgrade to Service pack 2 on Windows XP since Steam will no longer support SP1 :( :( :(

http://www.vg247.com/2012/06/20/steam-will-no-longer-support-windows-xp-sp1-as-of-august-31/

Valve says: "Our data shows less than 1 percent of those on Steam are running XP Service Pack 1", seems accurate yet inevitable seeing how mush more secure Win7 is over XP.

-if anyone is going to upgrade from XP SP1, here is a Microsoft support page on upgrading XP Service Packs

-also, on an unralated note: "In January Valve said that Steam had accumulated more than 40 million active customers."

I hope it's the 25th since I'm off next week. I can actually play any of the games I buy.

25th seems likely. The sales always stretch into July but not too far in since they usually start on the last or 2nd to last week in June. So since there's obviously only 1 week left in June that leaves the 25th.

How's the multiplayer scene in Binary Domain? Hope it hits 75% off on the sale.
Non-existent. You need to be 6 people to even start a round of free for all... takes a lot of patience and time to get a game going.

Might have better luck with the survival co-op mode, don't know.

Will Valve announce the start of the sale a couple of days before it happens or will we just wake up one day to the surprise of cheap games? I can't remember how it worked for the Holiday Sale

In 2011, the Summer Sale started on June 30th, on the last Thursday of June. It ended on the 10th of July, on a Monday.

In 2010, the "Perils of Summer" started on June 24th, also the last Thursday of June. I don't know when it ended, as i'm too lazy to research that far.

So yeah, I'm gonna say 28th.

Edit: Watch out for those damn sharks. Stay inside.

Serious Sam is a wicked gahbidge series for chowdaheads.
I'm pretty sure that in a couple of months LovingSteam will have a completely unrecognizable username.

Boss Doggie

all my loli wolf companions are so moe
I'm with the 28th guys too, so far sales have been last Thursdays.

Whoops, meant this summer :p

lol, quite optimistic!

We havent even had reports of games updating for achievements yet.

Aww that sucks :(

Or maybe Ookami just knows something we don't.

Historically it just starts. They send out a PR blast with big capital letters "For immediate release: STEAM SUMMER SALE ON NOW" which causes me to fall down or swerve off the road exclaiming "Oh shit!" nearly everytime.

Makes sense too. You wouldn't want to announce a huge sale days ahead, and have people stop buying stuff on your service until that day.

I know it's not similar at all, but the wording reminds me of EA's 'our data shows less than 1 percent of online activity on these slightly old games, so we're going to cut their online multiplayer support' schtick.

It's amazing what a history of being honest with your customers will do to change public opinion.

Though to be fair, being "honest" in Valve's case typically means "Saying something in blog posts a few times a year". Valve feels like one of the most silent companies to me. =P

If the sale is going to happen in June it needs to happen a week or so before July 2nd since Penny Arcade's 3rd game is slated to come out that day on steam. That's assuming they don't want any new releases occurring during the sale.

I just remembered I'm taking a vacation to Hawaii soon.

At the beginning of July.

Right after the summer sale most likely ends.

Cue the "Yeah but you weren't going to play your new games anyway" replies.

It's happened before.
