The
Xbox loop rumor from MSNerd that would essentially be the first indication of 361. It came out just before the Project 10 rumor.
I didn't put this together until a few hours ago. Did you bring this up because you recognized the description of the Xbox Loop had the advanced hardware I'm contending will be in the Xbox 361 and PS3.5?
IF Xbox loop is Xbox361 it supports my contention that Microsoft and Sony found it cheaper to entirely drop an attempt to upgrade older hardware and totally replaced all hardware in the Xbox 361 and PS3.5 with a new custom GPU (probably 6000 series severely down-scaled of course for cost reasons) as well as some of the support hardware in the next generation from AMD building blocks including the two new RF formats to connect to Cell phones and most likely the PPC and SPUs in the Sony 2010 patent.
Both Xbox 361 and Sony PS3.5 use the exact same SOC and emulate the Xbox360 and PS3 respectively. Further
if the Xbox 361 is the Xbox Loop then the PS3.5 is Orbis. With the same features to connect to Cell phones and tablets better able to support an ecosystem, Depth camera - higher res camera and LCD glasses.
All this is speculation based on published rumors, the Sony 2010 patent, the Microsoft powerpoint and an understanding of how difficult it would be to modify older hardware to support low power modes for a XTV HDMI Pass-thru Xbox 361. IF this speculation is true then this has been planned since 2010 as the
Digitimes rumor was July 2011, the Sony patent was published late 2010. Futher both the Digitimes and Loop/Xbox361/Xbox project X all had manufacturing start at the end of 2011 for sale late 2012 so this timing supports Oban being the SOC for this.
I'm not at the point I'd take a ban bet but I'm very close.
onQ123's find of the Sony glasses might indicate they are coming from Sony sooner than we expected given the Xbox 720 powerpoint. First generation of the glasses in the Microsoft powerpoint had them hardwired which would need a custom interface in Loop and Orbis, second generation would have a wireless accessory (most likely needing a newer RF format) that the glasses would plug into (in the Xbox powerpoint it was strapped to your arm).
Digitimes rumor had Sony selling 20 million the first year; given what I've speculated I don't think that's unreasonable as most of us will be purchasing a PS3.5 for the living room and moving the PS3 to the den or bedroom where it can support RVU and streaming from the living room PS3.5.
