I think one of the most interesting solutions to the rank system in Halo 4 would to have a stat-driven rank that resets on a timed interval in junction with an experience based rank that does not reset.

So you would have a 1 through 50 ranking system, or comparable, using numbers, letters, military ranks, or something brand new that 343 can cook up. Then, after a 3 month time period (Spring, Summer, Winter, Fall) that rank resets. This could be based purely on a Win/Loss ratio. It's the easiest to track and gives the most direct representation of how good you are at Halo 4, meaning do you win games, no matter what gametype it is. This would also be playlist specific.

Along with this resetting rank, you'd have your experience or progression based rank akin to that in Reach, giving you a better since of how much that player has played the game overall. This rank would encompass all playlists and be an aggregate of that player's experience.

Wow the guys keeps talking and talking.. HE NEVER STOPS

so you forged on uncaged and spire .. it had to be bad maps
:p

And downlinked is an dlc map.. never gonna see it, no threats from me.

It was pretty fun. It was a chance to make a map that didn't work really well at all for Infection, make it into one, and really exploit the fact that the map was originally made in Forge, so hence the tearing-up.

The tearing up for me was a good way to make it visually distinct, while staying within the original budget of the original map automatically by limiting myself to 99% moving existing objects. I did switch out some glass pieces for solid walls and added a railing or two near the back corner tower to make secondary methods of entrance for zombies to attack.

Upstairs. No vents in this room. Small. Also it's been pretty hot in this area the last couple of days.

Also I don't recognize a majority of people posting here anymore o_O.

I can tell you right now I'm not missing Nebraska's death-100F weather up here in the Pacific Northwest.

Well...there's that.

Sucks about the vents, I'm not sure how I'd make it without A/C in the south!

But, it's PORTLAND!

I don't buy into your lies. I lived in Tacoma WA for a while.

No windows?

That sucks, but at least you live in Portland. ;)

Brace yourself, Juniors are coming.

So basically components of Reach's arena system (rank reset after 3 months, win/loss determination of skill) combined with aspects of 1-50 (rank progression independent of the ranking of other players.) This of course existing along side the experience-based progression system familiarized in Reach, since that is obviously not going anywhere.

Sounds hella East Bay. Diamond Heights/Noe Valley fo lief.

Just like home! Except my parent's crib had A/C. Though it does cool down at night, so suck it East Coast/Midwest.

Windows at least. If and when it gets too hot we just chill on the porch and booze.

Something similar to that, but without the need to play X amount of games in a day.

That's the way to do it. I miss Sea/Tac area. :(

Quit bragging.

Only thing is people up here seem to not believe in box fans or AC at all. Which is weird. You're all weird, people that live in this general geographic area. Buy some fans.

edit: also, I'm eventually going back to Nebraska. So I'm just enjoying this while I can.

Yep, that's about right. The only thing you get is little heat coils in your apartments for winter too, haha.

I really miss that area, I hope to move back some time.

You're in Vancouver now, it's time to convert to the Celsius scale.

I wouldn't be an American without a defiant streak.

Also holy hell this city is huge. And every other woman wears yoga pants.

edit: Hopefully Forge is on demo at PAX for when I jump back down to the States for it.

Right, that requirement was due to arena ranking you in respect to the rest of the ranked population. What it seems everyone is expecting is a system ala H2 or H3, where your rank of 1-50 wasn't determined by the position of other players on the leader-board. Arena only allowed 0.05% (I think) of the population to be top 1% onyx. There is no upper limit on H3 of how many player can be a 50.

I carried my computer from Burnaby with my roommate all the way back up here to Broadway. Let's just say quite a few people didn't leave anything to the imagination.

Also it's freaky how NOBODY TALKS TO EACH OTHER. It's like thousands of people downtown and nobody is saying a word.

For those of you stressing out over the Indoor lighting being too dark because of dynamic shadows take a look:

ikHPlO78Gt9aC.gif

The shadows are generated and rendered within a single frame after the player pressed the dpad to enter player mode, so they are most likely rendered each frame in real time like most games these days that have dynamic shadowing, meaning if the shadow will react instantly to any movement of the object casting it. The spherical harmonics took quite a few frames more to generate so they will probably be static when you're playing the maps outside of forge. (And will probably generate even slower as you add more and more forge pieces)

My educated guess is that each forge piece has several invisible probes attached to them, inside and around them (depending on the size and shape of the piece) that sample the lighting around them. this is the part that needs to be precomputed every time you move something in forge an switch to player mode. This data is then used to light the forge pieces similar to how Diffusely-Convolved-Environment-Probes are used in Cryengine 3.

If this is done itteratively, you could start to get the appearance of Global illumination which means the light from outdoors and the skybox will start bounce around and fill up the indoor spaces with approximated ambient light. You're not likely going to get any cool High frequency indirect shadowing or occlusion from this alone but at least the ambient lighting wont be so flat or dark.

This would be perfect but it seems to be out of reach, (according to stinkles).

At this point I would be fine with having a rank that only I could see. As long as that rank can be assigned to individual playlists. Having a rank system is a great way for me (and others I think) to gauge how much I am improving as a halo player. Now of course trueskill will need to be stricter so that I am facing people that are around my same rank. Otherwise, we get what we have in reach with bpr where it is possible to have a 100 bpr and still face other players that have a 60 or so bpr in matchmaking.

summary: it would be nice to search in halo 4 if I had a personal rank to judge my personal skill and improvement, while simultaneously being matched with people of that same rank as well.

Guys, don't beat the Heckfu gif into the ground. I really want that joke to stay around and not get ruined.

What's this about?

He's that guy who complained about not commentating at the E3/MLG MP match over T2 and Mrs. Violence because they didn't do enough for the community. Which with Mrs. Violence he would have had a point, but not with T2. Basically he felt it should have been him because he's "done more for the community." He then quickly backpeddled and "wished them the best."

He's also the "nerd chills" guy who made that "impression" video of the E3 reveal.

Cinnamon Gui is best Gui.
