I doubt they will announce it at WWDC... Probably just iOS 6 (preview) + Macbook (and iMac?) announced.
Release will most likely be October. I'd wait if I were you.

gahh the only problem is that I am on a palm pixi. i could understand waiting if I had a 3GS or 4, but i can't even use facebook on my phone anymore since the app broke, let alone use mobile gaf :(

Get the 4S if you can't afford to wait and your phone is making you miserable. It's still a great phone, and even if the next iPhone is the new hotness in October you'll be primed to hop onto the 5S or whatever the equivalent will be.

My iMessages are slowly not working with more and more current iPhone users. Can anyone help me, it's really annoying that it is just stopping its intended function.

Either you need to turn your iMessages off and on (the ones your messaging need to do the same), the individuals your iMessaging are turning their iMessaging off (iMessaging uses data), or the iPhone users are out of 3G and WiFi coverage and it reverts to a text message.

Thanks! It was on their ends, now I know why.

Is this showing water damage? In real life the marker seems to be an orangey/pink colour.

Probably a dumb question, but for some reason when I try to update my iPhone (4S) in iTunes, Sync Apps is unchecked in the Apps tab. If I check it, then a window pops up saying, "Are you sure you want to sync apps? All existing apps and their data on the iPhone will be replaced with apps from this iTunes library." If I click to sync apps, it rearranges all my apps in alphabetical order instead of how I have them organized. I cancel by clicking "Don't Apply", but now none of my apps are updated. I'm not sure why it's doing this. Normally, when I connect to iTunes, it automatically updates after I click Sync. I don't want to lose any data or have to re-organize my apps. Anyone know what I can do? I've already done Transfer Purchases and Backup; still same issue.

My wife just dropped and shattered her 4S. I called Asurion, and they told me I had no insurance on the phone. I then called Verizon, to tell them to correct this, and they did nothing for me. I currently have 16 phones hooked up with Verizon and threatened to switch to Sprint and they couldn't have given two shits. Nothing they could do for me.

Evidently I did have insurance, and when I bought her the 4S it didn't transfer, which I think is complete horseshit. All this was eloquently conveyed to the Verizon rep but, alas, they didn't give a shit.

Now, I just called Apple, and she made an appointment for me at the Apple store, because evidently I can just pay $199 plus tax and get the phone replaced. This just seems too good to be true. There is literally no point in having insurance if this is the case. Has anyone done this? Just want to make sure before I drive the 45 minutes to go to the apple store.

I had a simpler case with my iPad, got a replacement ipad for a certain amount of money, but I can't remember how much, more than 200 though.
No hassle, absolutely great.

That should be the case. Friend of mine did the same thing a few days ago after water damaging his.

In your local mall, there could be the one kiosk or small store that does phone repairs. Otherwise, buy the parts online and replace it yourself.

There's people here that say that if you're lucky, the Apple Store could do it for you for free. Can't say I've tried that route yet, but I'm not really worried considering I have Apple Care for my phone.

I was looking for a reputable place online that can do replacements parts. Google search shows a lot of places but I dont want to pay for parts that are knock offs or at very least not good knock offs. I already got with the store and they quoted $150 - looking to do the replacement my self for $50 or a bit more.

Just installed this OEM back plate on my iPhone 4:

But don't aluminum scratch easily? Shouldn't I put on a protection film?
I remember having the first iPhone, it got scratches on its back.

We have finally gotten to cases for cases. Natural evolution.

See, I kind of saw the housing for any phone AS the case for the phone. It's the shell that protects the electronics. I never used anything besides a sock or bag when transporting.

I don't even use that anymore. Sure, I get it if you want to resell, but I normally don't .

That said, the above does look pretty sweet, if only the Apple logo were white. For the old rainbow logo, I expect the rest of the casing to be beige.

Any recommended affordable cases? (Looking for non-flip ones)

Also a bit of a noob question about the current Maps: it will constantly update your position as you walk to your direction right, it wont just draw a line on the screen, it'll take you there?

I just bought an unlocked iPhone 4S and I'm using a pre-paid account. Is there a way to disable images for Safari? I'm trying to limit the amount of data I'm using.

Safari doesn't allow you to do that, your best option would be downloading a third party browser with the feature (like iCab Mobile) or installing a tweak like ImaSafari in case you're jailbroken.

That isn't OEM. OEM stands for original equipment manufacturer, it's pretty obvious in the name that plate isn't OEM (in other words, made by Apple).

Apple didn't make that - even if it was modded, then it is a mod, not OEM.

Thanks for the response. I'm coming from an Android which had that feature. Oh well.

Thanks for the quick response.

Ah okay. Yeah, I know Apple didn't make it. I just thought that OEM were when it came with the correct lense, flash etc.

Thinking about getting some airplay speakers. I'm looking for something for under £200, but looking at amazon review has put me off a bit because there's a lot of people saying airplay is very inconsistent and cuts outs far too often. Any one have any experience with this? Recommendations?

I gave up waiting for an acceptable all-in-one Airplay solution and used an Airport Express connected to a Creative D200. This works flawlessley, but not the greatest sounding speaker.

In the UK the Philips and Sony airplay speakers are far too pricey.

Griffin does an awesome amp that takes an Airport Express and you can use any standard traditional wired speaker with that.

I would go that route now, better to have speaker options, than have to compromise speaker quality just because for Airplay. I already have speakers sitting around that I could use.

The challenge with Airplay speakers is their placement in relation to your wifi. They need a good connection, which might restrict where you can place them.

Good site with a list of all the options: http://airplayspeakers.com/airplay-speakers-current-options-and-alternatives/

SO I went out today...and took a look at some other phones.

I still think the Samsung Galaxy phones look crappy. But as we all know the Nokia Lumia phones are amazing.

I also saw an HTX one-X. It was pretty slick, and the version of Android on it is sweet.

Looking at the iPhone 4S, it really looks 'dated'. You know, it's still amazing, and the OS has really come of age now, doing pretty much most things you'd need, but it does feel like the spark is not there.

On the other hand, what do we need a phone to do? It's all about the apps, right? We pull out the iPhone, we open the app we want, and live in there. The home screen is more like an app launcher as opposed to an active desktop, and I think that's appropriate.

But still - makes me wonder if Apple really have much else up their sleeve for the next iteration. The competition is pretty high now, in terms of functionality.

Well in terms of os, we have a pretty good idea with the iOS6 Beta.

iOs 6 is a joke from what I've seen it's nothing like the jump from 4.0 to 5.0 was. It's more like 5.3 or 5.5 at the most and almost all of the "new" features are already running on Android for years. I love my 4s, but iOs without a jailbreak can't compete with Android at the moment. What the iPhone does it does extremly well but it lacks a lot of standard features.

I also hate that Apple thinks we're excited about features like opening Apps with Siri or sending a text when declining a phone call. That's basic stuff which should have already been there a long time.

What are the best features offered by a Jailbreak?

I think the design looks pretty nice IMO. Though it seems overkill for anyone who doesnt have a construction like job or drops their phone all the time.
Wow, that looks amazing. A lot of ingenious little solutions as well (found the mute mechanism to be particularly awesome). Only issue is the actual assembly; not an in-and-out case.

AHHHHHHHHH GOD WHY
Some lines of duty and lifestyles definitely need reliable protection, and it's nice to have a method that isn't hideous or unreliable (like some stuff out there).

The list is incredibly long, but you have to pay for a lot of tweaks in the Cydia store too.

You can:

Download and import songs into iPod
Send files via bluetooth
access the filesystem
tethering without tether plan
completely change the theme
have toggles for bluetooth, wifi, 3g etc. in the notification center
download files with safari
download torrents
sync your iphone to multiple itunes libraries
have extended siri functionality
change default browser
arrange icons how you like
have infinite apps in a folder
quick reply text messages
...

There's a LOT more, but you have to pay for a lot of these features.

I do. Just visited the site and noticed it's received the quite face-lift, nice!

I've registered but have yet to get the activation email, so I can't PM certain members there or anything. I wanted to ask how they got their lockscreens. I'm a new to the JB thing so would like step by step instructions on how they achieved it.

I wanted to PM them but I can't. I was wondering if you could for me? There is also a dedicated REQUEST thread there I was going to try as well.

I was going to make a thread here on GAF to ask for help because the iOS JB thread is a bit dormant right now, but I'm hoping you or someone else can help before I go that route.

This looks like a great case. Love the little touches to improve functionality like the port covers and mute switch. I've had my 4S since launch and I've been using a slip case, which is perfect 90% of the time because all I typically want is a bit of protection when the phone's not in use. However this summer I found that I'm still a little too precious about the device when I'm out and about, shooting photos and video at the beach or whatever. I was going to get an Otterbox as a throw-around-outside case, but this looks far superior, and if it's as pleasant to use as it appears I might keep it on permanently.
