Patch will be up in some minutes!!

"Path of Exile 0.9.11 will be deployed in 5 minutes. Downtime may be up to 20 minutes because we're testing a new deployment system."

No idea why a indi developer can do it in 25minutes and other companys need 10hours...

Damn it, really? There's a hotkey for it? Now I feel retarded, and I can't check it now until I get home from work and download the patch. Definitely looking forward to spending some time with this game tonight. I'm assuming if I want to play on the new servers I'll have to start a new character though?

Bought a beta key, but can't get past the odd camera angle. It's completely head on and with a 4:3 display you're way to close to the character :/

No anyone can play with anyone on the World, so every Char works on every Server.

It works like this:

If u play alone on a Singapoor Server = Your games will created on the Singapoor Server

If u Play with someone from US or EU Server = When the EU/US Player first enters the new instance the game will created on EU/US Server (u will have a worse ping now). If u enter the new Instance first the Game will created on the Singapoor Server and you will now have a good ping.

I think this is the best Server System ever, real Global Play.

I'm up to level 8 on my Templar and really enjoying it. Excited for this patch, too.

I really hope they add the ability to map movement to a key/button, as well as allow you to turn on combat pop-up text.

Okay, that's an awesome system, not going to lie, that makes me more excited for this because then I can actually play with people from GAF or some of my other overseas friends, instead of having to try and organise what server to roll on and such.

Is the new passive tree up on their website? I can't actually check it while I'm at work, but it'll be nice to look through when I get home and have to download the patch.

Looks like they removed a lot off off-class attribute nodes. I looked if they fixed getting str w/ shadow and it's worse than before but then I looked at other classes and they've been balanced to be terrible also (~60 off-class attributes easily accessible). Not sure how I feel about that especially since dual strike requires str/dex. Seems like their goal is to pigeon hole classes into certain builds/skills which I kind of understand but I liked how you had a lot of options before. I guess the less skills that you're able to use, the less mistakes you can make creating a build.

I think it's getting hammered right now, though.

That's okay for me, I won't really be able to look for another 7ish hours. Thanks for confirming for me though :D I shall check it out at my soonest convenience.

I'm assuming there are no new major keystones though? From what I saw in the preview it only really looked like a re-arrange of the grid moreso than adding anything new.

Edit: Also, anyone able to post the patch notes in here for a person who can't look at the PoE site at work? (If there are patch notes at the moment)

Yeah, I tried to open up a second window for the passive skill tree calc and it didn't work.

The change is MASSIVE!

Also, Flicker Strike nerf is too bad. I saw a build where Shadow could just travel everywhere doing flicker strike.

Edit: If anyone wants to add me, my char name is SavageDio.

I'm interested in the flicker strike change, the cooldown can be reset using frenzy charges? The only way I can ever see that being spammable again is if you built entirely to gain frenzy charges on every hit. If you did that I would assume you'd have to sacrifice a fair amount of damage. Makes me wonder if they've changed it to be more of a movement/utility skill now.

There's a unique armor that gives frenzy charges on critical strike, about the only build I can think of that would work.

Or maybe its power charges, it has been a while since I last played this game, lol.

Just bought the beta at the $15 tier. I know the open beta is in August but at least i get a Forum Supporter title, Soundtrack and some in game store credit which i would of bought anyway.

Diablo 3 being such a terrible game drove me to this to seek the true Diablo 2 successor. I was involved in both open beta PoE weekends previously so I'm not going completely blind into the game.

The latest announcement of South East Asian servers was a deciding factor.

I kind of want to put $10 into "IWANTTOPLAYRIGHTNOW", but how does your heart deal with your character having a time limit on him? Won't you feel bad for putting all this time into great loot that will become part of beta history and vanish forever?

You play hardcore only and realize that characters come and go ;D.

And then $10 is going to help develop a pretty damn promising ARPG which is cool. And you'll get 100 credits now that you can use during open beta/full release on cosmetic updates for the characters that will actually stick around.

You also get 22 character slots and 4 storage tabs, which will probably go away at open beta or full release.

They really want you to try different things for closed beta.

Only just started this week. The passive skill "sphere grid" is awesome as a visual representation of your skills, as well as showing the distance between you and the next skill you're going for.

As a New Zealander it's great seeing the games industry coming up like this. I have friends in Sidhe (Shatter on PSN) and an actor friend recently got a voice role in PoE. I'm happy to support Grinding Gear, as soon as I saw the Kiwi pet I had to get it lol.

There are some great ideas here. Mana reservation for auras, Witcher-style potion buffs, +stat consumable items as game currency, dead hardcore characters moved to the softcore league, endgame dungeons, to name a few.

Public beta stress test this weekend! Do give it a shot if you're looking for your next action RPG, especially Diablo III refugees :p

I would have to agree with this statement, I played this before I played Diablo 3 and I think it kind of ruined D3 for me, I just couldn't get into it. But anyone who didn't enjoy Diablo 3 as a Diablo game should definitely give this a try.

Looking at the new passive tree last night, it looks like it'll be easier to hit some pretty cookie cutter builds with this, but still with a bit of variation. Found the shadow part of the tree a bit odd now, with the 3 major weapon build section right out to the side with only 2 rather roundabout ways of getting there. Marauder seems easier to build tankier, or good for 2-hand heavy strike, but not so much for other things. That said, I might do some more research before I fully commit to feeling like the game is a bit less open.

The middle is more interesting now in the passive tree than before. I think everything else became worse.

This is true, but the middle is now also harder to get to. Takes a fair few more levels to get there than it did before, from what I can work out. Not sure I'm completely sold on the new passive tree, I think it might've been easier for them to make Orb of Regret less rare and thus make it easier for people to re-spec or fix mistakes in their passive tree.

Edit: Someone changed the thread title! And also I added you Shining Sunshine(SavageDio) my account name is Zyphon88.

I asked Minsc to. The old title said "Path of Exile (F2P Diablo clone) closed beta starts today."

'Today' was referring to 11 months ago and after Diablo 3 I don't want the game associated as a Diablo clone lol. Also calling something a clone has negative connotations as it implies its a knockoff.

Awesome, thanks Gez. Completely agree with the Diablo clone thing, really it's only the same kind of genre, they both do thing pretty differently.

QisTopTier: I've played Torchlight 2 a bit, but only through the first chapter(?) beta, and honestly I wouldn't be able to decide. Torchlight 2 has a lot of fun aspects to it, like cannons, the pet, the inventory management, the loot is awesome, it's reasonably fast-paced.
This is a bit more 'hardcore' I guess, things can get hectic in instances, and it can really punish you at times, but it's really fun and rewarding to push through the challenges it puts forward. But as a few people have stated, the RNG can be a bit harsh with the stat gambling currency items.

Anyone up for discussions about builds with the new passive tree? Like I said a bit further up I can only really see a few builds that vary from what you'd expect of a class that might work now. What builds are people thinking of going with or are currently going with for the new tree?

Wanna hear a good joke? Waste your time helping me! LOL!
I have this installed and haven't played it in over a month.

May as well wait for the character wipe. Really looking forward to leveling up and getting some armor that doesn't make me look like a complete hobo.

I think I still look like a hobo, but I definitely looked better than in the last difficulty.

People who have played both Torchlight 2 and this how do they compare?

Both seem very different. This game has a much slower and deliberate pace. It's grim and dark where Torchlight 2 is flashy and colorful. There are tons of crazy affixes and combinations in Path of Exile. Skills are not class-based but appear as gems, which are drops from enemies or quest rewards, and you have to insert them in armor. The way you progress your character is also different in that Path of Exile has a huge node system, and the only difference between the classes is where you start on the grid. Otherwise it's totally open-ended.

Torchlight 2 is much more of a traditional game. From the taste I got in beta, I imagine I'll end up playing Torchlight 2 more, but I really like what Grinding Gear Games has done with Path of Exile. It certainly feels the dark and gritty hole that's been rather empty since Diablo II.

I think the texture work is better than D3.

You could zoom in on a female wizard to see her bump mapped boobs with no polygons.

PoE is very dark and more realistic art style. Water and shiny surfaces look really amazing.

Agreed, and it's also still in beta, not really meant to be played that close and they keep incrementally increasing the quality of the graphics through each patch. While it looks good now, I hope it ends up looking a little better to possibly attract a bit bigger crowd. Some people tend to be really put off games that don't have what they consider decent graphics.

One thing I couldn't get over is how much D3 stressed my 580s. It was ridiculous, temps were getting as high as 90c for no reason at all. Not even those crazy GPU benchmark programs made my temps get that high.

PoE on the other hand looks better and basically no stress on my cards at all.

I just realized that boss I had to fight was added in the recent patch.

Damn, that boss fight was good. Hope they add more like him. It feels like they should just redo Merveil, but I guess she's the first act boss.

So how much of the game is playable during the closed beta? Tempted to drop the $10 and get into the closed beta now but I hear the open beta is coming in roughly 2 weeks.

2 acts are finished and playable. Although I believe end-game is more interesting with item drops that are essentially portals to new maps.

You might as well try out the public beta weekend coming up.
