Man I didn't know about that GB border on GB games when you hold start, or the color option to go to green, or blowing on icons in the menu.

Man I love this system.

So... still no Theatrhythm demo for the Americas? It's hard to believe that Europe has one, Japan has multiple ones, and we have NOTHING =(

(I'm buying the game as soon as I can, but I want to make the wait easier by playing a demo :s)

The eShop in NA doesn't even acknowledge the existence of TFF's DLC, either through updates or even the actual DLC page, which hasn't been updated since its inception.

well, you do have to buy it through the game anyway. they probably think that having it directly on the main eShop interface might confuse people into believing they can buy it and play without the game itself.

Just bought this with my 20$ card:

-Wario Land
-Zelda: Link's Awakening DX
-3D Classic: Kirby Adventure

This + My ambassador games = my god, that backlog. D:

Is it me or is Planet Crashers really unforgiving out of the gate? I've died 5 times in the first dungeon, winding up with no gold or items almost each time. Did I miss a weapon or easy level-up opportunity somewhere? Not a whole lot of help in the manual nor any sort of in-game tutorial...

It's kind of tough at the start, but if you make good use of the potions you start with and the items you collect in the dungeons you should be able to hack it. Make sure you're doing the timed button presses for your moves properly, heal up after battles if you need to. I don't know how random it is, but one of the first quests I did got me a weapon and a skill, and that helps a lot, gaining levels helps too.

So far from what I can tell, Green Floor 2 seems a bit harder than Blue Floor 1, even though Green is easier on Floor 1, so prioritize Floor 1 quests at first to make it a little less brutal.

I'm enjoying the game so far. It's slightly repetitive, and the battles are a bit slow, but they're fun.

EDIT - I've also just realized that while buff items wear off at the end of battle, you can use them before engaging an enemy so you won't waste turns buffing up.

Played Wario land for a few hours. Its not as fun as six golden coins, wario is too sluggish for my taste and combat is a little annoying. still, I like it a lot.

mole mania is really cool too. love burrowing

Pretty please D4 bring these two over, even if they are the last Wii VC titles ever.

Fixed. Well, they STILL haven't brought over Pulstar yet which is the prequel to Blazing Star so it's gonna be awhile. I was really hoping this would be the week that D4 would take a break from the endless KoF and World Hero installments.

I know Last Blade 2 has a good chance of showing up here given that we had the first one over here, but I do fear for Pulstar and Blazing Star. Hopefully D4 or whoever responsible comes through with it, we did get Ironclad back in 2010 so perhaps these shmups are likely to get published in the US and Euro services.

I´m just grateful that we will get a near perfect home version of LB2, not counting the AES cart of course.

I'm getting really confused by Planet Crashers...

* You can equip up to 4 different "skills" (attack moves), and continually find new ones. You even have a swap command to change skills in battles... but all 6 skills I've found so far do exactly the same amount of damage. Nothing distinguishes them aside from looks and the "tap button for full damage" timing. The manual and game imply there is a reason for more than one move, but there really isn't... you can use the same attack in every battle.
Edit: I jumped ahead three planets once I hit level 20 (I appear to be on the second-to-last planet now), and NOW I'm actually noticing the skill moves resulting in different damage levels. I don't know if it wasn't showing before because the skill differences are based on percentages of your total attack power, or if the new moves actually do something finally, but at this point I'm seeing one skill do 340 points of damage vs 246 from a different one. However, there seems to be no reason NOT to always use the most powerful one.

* Weapons are only distinguised by attack power -- the manual implies there are other differences (and thus why you might swap 'em in battle), but there aren't.

* You get tons of money, but nothing to spend it on other than generic items.

* The game is dirt slow.

Unless something radically changes after the first 2 moons (plus satellite), this is a really sparse and simplistic dungeon crawler.

I'm confused by the skill options when none of the powers seem any different.

I'm confused by the skill options when none of the powers seem any different.

So far only one of my skills seems to do a different amount of damage (I'm not positive, because it does multiple hits) but it actually seems to do less, so yeah, it seems like it's more about style so far. Weapons are pretty straightforward, use whatever has the highest attack on it, maybe at higher levels there's more to them, but I'm only on planet 2 at character level 7.

I've been pumping my money into medium and large potions, then spending some of the extra on bucklers. Potions are vital for surviving multiple levels of the dungeons and using a buckler and food before engaging tougher enemies can make a huge difference.

I don't know what determines character customization unlocks, but I seem to already have most of the options unlocked and there are a lot less options than the preview trailers implied.

It is very simplistic, but I'm having fun despite the slow pace of the game. It feels like something I'll play in smaller bites when I'm in the mood for some mindless dungeon crawling without having to micromanage parties and tons of items and keeping track of storylines and such that usually comes with roguelikes.

My personal pros and cons for the game so far after a couple hours of play:

+The battle system is fun if you like the Mario RPG/Paper Mario style timed attacks.
+Easy to jump into for just a few minutes if you want
+Charming visuals
+Customizable hero

-While item and enemy placement seems to be randomized, dungeon layouts are not.
-Pace can be slow
-While the music isn't bad, there's barely any variety. There seems to be one song per planet, which plays on the surface and in dungeons, and then the battle music, so it can get repetitive.
-No indicator of xp to next level (unless I managed to overlook it)
-As said, skills seem only visually different, so you'll end up picking the one you like the look and button timing of, and just using that over and over.

+/-You can only have one active quest at a time, so you can't knock out several quests in one trip to a dungeon. This is good because it gives you reasons to keep going back down, but bad because it could be seen as artificially extending the length of the game.

It's hard to say if I'd recommend buying this game or not. I'm personally having fun with it and spent about 2.5 hours on it already, only reaching level 7 and the second planet (I believe level 30 is the cap.) So while what's there can be repetitive, it's got some longevity to it if you can keep interest in the gameplay.

I can confirm that later skills (or, perhaps, at higher levels?), different skills actually yield different amounts of damage... but I didn't notice that until planet 4 or 5 and at level 20/21.

I've pretty much been kicking everyone in the face and using large potions when needed. There really seems to be nothing else to do with money...
Were you alerted to any customization unlocks? I haven't been, and now I'm wondering if I've unlocked stuff without realizing it.

I shifted my playstyle once it became clear that there was no reason to attempt to do "all of the quests" -- I'm not even sure there is a "limit" to quests, really; I'm starting to think they are endlessly randomly generated. Now I'm just trying to see how quickly I can get through the last few planets. This makes the game a bit LESS monotonous, but the pacing is horrid. Slowly going down and back up the same dungeon 3-6 times is irritating.

They game would be far better if...

* You could stack/complete multiple quests at a time.
* You could -run-.
* Weapons/skills had more meaningful differences.

A patch/update by Renegade Kid would be nice, but...

On a scale of 1-5 stars, I can't see giving this more than a 2 or 3. It's just too dull and simplistic. It COULD be vastly improved with a few tweaks, but I doubt it will be.

Not at all. Before I began playing I customized my character with the options present, and half or more were marked out as unusable. After my lengthy off-and-on play session when I saved and quit to the menu I went back into customization and found that most of the options were now unlocked.

There's also the fact that while the link cable was a direct 1 to 1 connection, with wireless you could have like 10 people all trying to do link cable multiplayer at the same time and Nintendo would have to do some additional work to get a way for you to choose which person to connect to and have the game recognise that.
Now that doesn't sound like it would be all that hard to do, but you know how much Nintendo likes modifying their roms.

I don't know anything about software or hardware, so with that preface, why couldn't Nintendo just put a link cable utility on the eShop? Start it up, it searches for other people with the link cable utility set to search mode, asks if you want to connect. That utility runs in the background until connection fails or you cancel it. Then, when the 3DS enters Gameboy mode (are they still doing per-title emulation? I guess that would make it more difficult), the Gameboy would think it was linked to another Gameboy.

It probably is hoping too much, but it would be awesome if one game on your system could connect with another game on your system, by which I mean Golden Sun could connect with Golden Sun: The Lost Age. Damn you super long passwords!

Planet Crashers just sort of pathetically stops.

I can't see how this could have ever been a retail title -- I'm starting to think Renegade Kid turned a very early demo into a quick & dirty eShop game. The game seems to consist entirely of padding and unfinished ideas.

I think they'll come eventually, D4 seems pretty committed to bringing all the notable SNK/ADK stuff. I'm more worried for 3rd party efforts like Super Dodgeball or Waku Waku 7. :(

I've reached the point of Wario Land 2 where you get the level select, man it blew my mind back in the day to find out that i'd only beaten like half the game, I had no idea of the secret world in Wario Land 1 until it was mentioned here so i'm going back to do that but for me this return really highlighted how much I prefer WL2.

And since i'm a filthy cheater the best way to tackle those treasure chest puzzles in WL2 since my eyes fail me is to simply press the home button when the cards flip, now I can take my time and save my money!

Yeah, I really wish some of the NeoGeo's awesome shmup library would be made available in the US. I think Ironclad is the only one to come out so far. Meanwhile they still continue to put out carbon copy fighting games that I have no interest in even though we already have like 30 of those.

Thanks for all the impressions. Seems pretty lazy, I'll be skipping.

The Neo Geo game we need more than any other is Viewpoint. I just saw a Neo cart for $280 locally, but man, I can't bring myself to do that.

Pulstar is fucking boss as well, though. I'd take either.

Yeah, actually looking it up there's quite a few shooters NA/EU is behind on:

Last Resort
Twinkle Star Sprites
Alpha Mission II
Pulstar
Blazing Star

Plus genre mixes like Metal Slug X or Shock Troopers.

Sega Sammy owns that, so I dunno. The only "3rd party" Neo games so far seem to be Data East (Gmode) and Sunsoft stuff. And the Sunsoft games are still Japan only too.

Will QA for food.
Best ending in Wario Land with about 6 hours total playtime. Great game.. I hadn't played it in a decade, but it was as wonderful I as remembered.

I want NGPC stuff on the 3DS VC. Get me Match of the Millennium, Card Fighter Clash, Metal Slug, Last Blade 2, and Faseli on there now, SNK/Nintendo

Any other impressions of Mole Mania? I'm intrigued by it, as I am a fan of Miyamoto as well as puzzlers, but some GB games just dont hold up well.

Downloading Colors 3D now. $4 is a perfect price for that, I think. I would have eventually bought it at $7, but this is a much better price for someone who can't draw too well. Probably won't see much use until I get an XL though, so I'll be waiting a few months. :(

Shame that sales seem to be ending, but at least I was finally able to get something on sale before it ended. Would have liked to see Dillon or Ketzal on sale too though, but oh well

This is my most wanted platform announcement. I think Nintendo will stick with 8bit systems for 3DS for awhile though. I wouldn't be surprised to even see SMS and MSX before NGPC and the other 16bitters (GBA, WSC, TG16, SNES, Genesis).

Just finished Sakura Samurai and went halfway through on expert mode.
Surprisingly mediocre game.

Boss fights in expert are pretty cool.

But yeah it starts with great potential, but then enemy attacks never branch out at all except for just one spear guy, and most enemies just carry 1 attack. It's a huge problem for a punch out game.

I really, really wish there was a demo for Theatrhythm. I haven't played that many Final Fantasy games, but I like rhythm games. Plus, I own almost all of the mainline ones (my cousin gave me his old PS2 games), so maybe playing it would give me motivation to play them. I guess I need to finish Digital Devil Saga first before I start more 30+ hour games anyway.

Man, Mole Mania and Wario Land look so good. I think I'm gonna be cheap and see if they end up on Club Nintendo Rewards, though.

There's a lot of content, and puzzles feel very rewarding. And very.. very.. hard in many cases. Masayuki Kameyama, level designer for Donkey Kong 94, was the director of this game after all. Visually, it's a late generation Game Boy title, so it's very polished looking and is not one of the Game Boy titles that suffers with age.

I really wished Planet Crashers was good since I wanted more dungeon crawler games, but eh, guess I'll get around to finishing Strange Journey and starting Grimrock.

Theatrhythm is pretty good for the most part, even though there are some halfbaked ideas. Wouldn't doubt it'll be fixed. I just wish NoA/SE tried to make the game look like it exists in America.

Yeah, was fun and cool at first, then quickly became a chore.
Last boss was such a pain for me though.

And I was awful at the street challenges.

Wario Land was the first GameBoy game I ever owned so I got it yesterday. Beat the first world in about a half hour of play time. Just trying to enjoy it and not necessarily beat it in a day. It's definitely as cool and fun as I remember when I was a kid. Perfect game to be my first 3DS VC purchase!

Every single Club Nintendo survey...

"What did you like about this game?"
"It was fun. Not half as fun as NeoGeo Pocket Color support for 3DS Virtual Console though."

I bought Dot Runner Complete!

It's pretty neat I suppose. Really strong 3D, graphics don't look half-bad either. Tron joke are pretty commonplace. It's sort of like a first-person Pacman with (very) light RPG elements.
