This pretty much did theater in for me, too. Another thing was that we couldn't look at fileshares before the games started so I never really got into many community maps or videos because I couldn't quickly download them while waiting in a lobby like halo 3.

Bungie Favorites.

HOLY SHIT.

That was the absolute coolest, I hope 343 can do something similar

All the file finding options in Reach are great, lookin up most downloaded
anime spawn point girls
community files

But Bungie Fav's was better.

If you want to talk about 15 levels of UI, go file searching on Reach.

Im hoping 343 numbs my brain with big huge buttons to get to the best videos and maps.

Every single person looked at Bungie Fav's, how many do you think go file searching on a daily monthly yearly basis in Reach?

I wish they still updated Halo 3 with that stuff. Even though that BAK 2 TEH FUTUR screenshot is pretty damn cool.

I like how everyone gets super riled up over things people are assuming from BO2's trailer and an internet rumor.

For all we know, streaming only works for film clips (if it exists at all). I'm sure Fyrewulff knows the exact limitation of the Xbox's internet bandwidth, but it seems to me that live-streaming multiplayer games would exceed that limit (or at least cause horrendous lag).

Hell, the only thing you can safely assume from the BO2 video is that there will be an option for a HUD overlay. Shoutcasting? Possible, or maybe Tryearch is (poorly) hinting at a simple partnership with some popular commentators.

I have no idea when i looked for Reach files in Reach or Bungie.net.
Probably shortly after the launch. EDIT oh yeah, i tried, yes, tried to look for something this year but the in-game search system is so awful that was really short try.
Bungie Favorites? Always checked those.

Not to mention the processor, I don't think the 360 is capable of it at all, but I could be mistaken.

It's just nice to want things. ;)

Here's the thing about that spectator mode bit: it didn't really do anything for me that someone who put some money into a decent streaming rig and a microphone doesn't already do.

Streaming your POV for 5 friends on Twitch is not the same thing as holding a tournament with multiple teams, with multiple POVs, with multiple matches, with overhead views, minimap views, spanning the course of multiple days with production value, brackets, an entrance fee, and prize money.

That's the thing though - Want to do multiple players' perspectives? If it's not at a LAN, then you're SOL. Even then, you'll need some pricey equipment to do proper switching/splitting/etc. Pretty sure u4iX gave a more detailed example earlier and that was just touching the surface on what's needed to provide a decent stream of a tournament.

Obviously, if it's just one player/screen that you'll never leave, then the feature isn't really needed. But that's not usually how tournaments/show matches work, is it?

I agree that Mr. 4iX has pointed out a need that Halo 4 is not going to fill, but I'm less concerned about getting a developer-made solution to that need than he is. I have very little interest in watching a tournament that isn't on a LAN. Watching Ninja or Formal doing 1v1s over Live becomes less fun the moment I realize which player has host and that sinking feeling would be magnified in a 4v4 setting.

As for handling multiple perspectives: MLG could've done this better but they couldn't justify spending the money and time that would've been necessary. Costs on streaming/capture equipment are coming down while performance is going up. If Halo 4 is popular enough MLG and/or other groups would be able to handle 8 player perspectives streaming at a LAN.

u4iX pointed out that a streaming/spectator solution wouldn't just affect hardcore 4v4 players, and I agree with him that it would be a fantastic tool for the community to use to expand our enjoyment of the game in many different ways, but right now my only concern for Halo 4 is that the multiplayer is engaging enough to last for years and the post-launch support is the best possible.

I'm not saying Halo fans shouldn't want all of these things at once, I'm saying that I can't bring myself to feel bad about losing a feature that I've lived without when there is the very real possibility that I could be losing the only feature I care about: an enjoyable MP experience.

We're not wanting all of these things at once... We've been wanting all of these things for years.

It's like I want a slice of pizza and you're already full, but you're telling me I shouldn't get up and get another piece because YOU'RE the one that's not hungry.

No. 343 makes pizza. The pizzas they make are missing one of the toppings you like. I'm telling you to go to the store, buy that topping and put it on the pizza.

I'm not saying you are wrong for wanting this.

Right, Halo 4 is the pizza. You're fine with what you got, I'd like some more.

Now we're arguing about pizza. Great job.

The entire point is that it's incredibly expensive right now to stream 4v4s with every perspective and that with a very basic spectator mode (for custom game on LAN only) you would have to spend a lot less money to get up a decent stream. This way smaller companies can set up a Reach tournament stream much more easily and with lower costs. And MLG could run Halo again at a lower costs. All that because of a very simple feature.

August MM Update: Bleed Through and Zero Bloom Globally implemented.

...I can always be a dreamer.

Butttt buttt the precious sandbox would be destroyed, it would make my already useless weapons more useless. /gag

Seriously i would be in heaven if this happened and arena got implemented into many more playlists.

This has been said many times today already, including by myself, and it's conveniently forgotten by the next post/page evrytim...

Making it easier for people to entertain with Halo is nothing but good for MS/343. How is this not obvious?
