- Who is planning on buying the Wii U?

- Why are you going to buy it? And if not, why not?

- What is your opinion about the console? What does it needs? What does it lack? What other information are you waiting Nintendo un unveil?

''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''''

I plan on buying it. As soon as pre-orders go up I plan on pre-ordering one. To add to this, I also plan on buying a PS4, and a 720 (as long as the anti-used games thing isn't true). Though if I buy those at launch or not is totally up in the air.

I know what to expect from a Nintendo console. I've been gaming for a couple of decades now, and I own almost every major US console release since the 8 bit days. Nintendo, for me, has been one of the few companies with amazing consistency. I don't have to worry about the quality of most of their games. It helps that I really do enjoy a lot of their franchises. I know that they'll support it with quality games I'll want to play.

I was really iffy about the controller, just like the Wiimote when I first saw it. Then I played it at the NYC event and now I'm really psyched for it. I'm hoping that both Nintendo and 3rd parties really try out some new play mechanics involving the controller. I felt like while Nintendo did a lot of experimenting with the Wiimote, no one else did, and that was a shame.

It just needs a good supply of quality games to keep coming/being announced for it. I do wish it had a bit beefier hardware in it, but other than that there's not much else missing from it for me.

This annoys me to no end, but it's been a stigma of this entire generation. You have an audience unfamiliar and uninterested in PC gaming (and that's fine) unable to separate their taste from fact, assuming because they're not interested the platform is problematic and not worth gaming on.

But you see it from people too. Early in this generation, when Oblivion came out, I went down to EB Games to pick up my copy. The dick who sold it to me tried to sell me on the 360 version (including a 360 console) as, according to him, it looked better and had more content.
Duh.

360>PS3>Wii>PC don't you know?

That has been this generation though. You have a gaming press, that is just as miss informed/ill informed/not wanting to know as the average "stupid" gamestop employee. The 360 became the "champion" of the gaming press this generation. How much of the RROD was swept under the rug by the gaming press? I don't think you can deny that if the PS3 or Wii had the failure level that the 360 did, there would have been more articles than you could count about it.

To me, when a magazine, or a website claims to be an all gaming news source, I don't think it's fine that they are unfamiliar and uninterested in PC gaming, or any gaming.

Yeah switching focus isn't hard at all...it's something you've been doing your whole life. I was just pointing out before that the detached form factor makes it different from the DS/3DS. It should be fine as long as games are designed with that in mind, like something like The World Ends With You (or anything else with simultaneous action on both screens) would be harder to play on the Wii U cause of the increased separation between screens.

And that's actually a potential boon. Oh, man, you know how in Zombi U how you have to enter the security code (or whatnotminigameetcetc thing) while the TV screen has the full action still going? How you're focusing on the GamePad but can still see the TV screen, but it's only peripheral unless you periodically look up? Bam, it adds instant tension because you have to balance your attention between two points. This is one of the game mechanics that I had in mind during all that "think up subscreen ideas!" chatter a few months ago, and I'm frankly shocked that something like it has already been implemented.

Also, I would not have minded piloting that drone bomb thing in Perfect Dark using the GamePad while I could still see what's around me on the TV. Too often, my total blindness meant I would die because anybody could just walk up and slap me to death while the TV screen had flipped over to the drone view, and that was damned annoying!

Whats so hard about accepting pre-orders? So what no price is announced, just put a placeholder and lower it when the official price is launched. As a retailer wouldn't you want as many people to preorder hardware to get some guaranteed money and know what quantities to order for your store? Dammit man. Stupid EB games. "we don't have an SKU yet"....so make one. Nintendo doesn't give you the SKU ppl. Bah.

And the console will certainly cost more than $50, so they can just accept $50 for now.

They cant accept preorders without a set amount of shipments they wish to recieve. If they opened preorders and just let anyone preorder they could ship under the amount of persons preorder and some customers will probably not get one. Even if you preordered.

Exactly. For example my GS might only get 10 or so (I believe the number was similar to that for the 360) because I live in a small northern town, so if they accept too many pre-orders a lot of people might not get one and they'll get pissed at GS.

All stores outside of Canada are. EB Games Australia, Zavvi and other Eurpean retailers started preorders right after E3 2011. It's August 2012 and Game and HMV in the UK have started preorders. Germany is taking preorders. North America is so behind the times when it comes to these things. Why doesn't anybody want my money!? :(

More hands-on with the Wii U games, previews, opiniones, etcetera. Even if they are somehow reptitivie, at least you know the general opinion of the public (mainly gamers), and get an idea of what is coming.

I dont think I will finish Xenoblade before I get The Last Story this week, but I will try to finish both before the WiiU comes out

Slow day for Wii U news ah? anyway I was lurking around on Ign and their Top 25 Wii games list shocked of how bad it is.. :(

Dead Space Extraction, Super Paper Mario, Okami Wii, Mario Kart Wii, and Red Steel 2 have no business being on that list. Also, listing Metroid Prime Trilogy and Resident Evil 4 is fucking cheating even though they are clearly the best versions of those games. That's like saying the best PS3 game is the Ico and Shadow of the Colossus Collection. Oh man, these great games are still great. Thanks, IGN. At least they didn't list MadWorld. I would have propelled myself into the mesosphere on a tower of rage-induced feces.

Its gonna be different opinions with different people, its not like they have crap games up there. Red Steel 2 will def be on my list that is a great game.

How can you compare Metroid Prime Trilogy to Ico SotC Collection? Trilogy has Metroid Prime 3 on the desk its far from cheating.

Red Steel 2 has some marvelous sword controls, but I found the rest of the game so boring.

As for your second point, then they should have just listed Metroid Prime 3.

Mario Kart Wii and Red Steel 2 are great games, as far as a huge number of people are concerned; the hate the get from a few people has always been comical. Red Steel 2 alone is a great lesson in what kind of games could have been made on the Wii had anyone given a shit to try.

And Prime Trilogy and RE4 cannot be compared to HD collections. They are mechanically unique versions of those games. Their fundamental interface and play are overhauled and only possible in the Wii versions.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
Red Steel 2 has a lot of problems, but it's still the best motion controlled melee fighting game on the market. Responsive and intuitive. The fact it manages to seamlessly integrate pointer shooting into the fighting is the cherry on top.

I just hope we get good Wii U news at Gamescom, hopefully more confirmed third party games.

Other than that apparently a retailer has said the Wii U will come out in Australia on December 6th, which makes sense since that is a Thursday.

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2012/08/rumour-wii-u-set-for-december-6-release-in-australia/

Time to put on your tin foil hats, grab a pinch of salt or whatever other skeptical rituals people do because it’s rumour time. This time it’s the Wii U release date for Australia, the 50% left of everything else we need to know about the console. The other one being the price of course.

According to a report by Kotaku AU today, they’ve received a tip that the console is set to be released on December 6th 2012, which makes sense, its Nintendo’s typical Thursday release date and the Wii was released on December 7th 2006. It sounds right.

The date also makes sense, Nintendo America will likely release the console in late November to coincide with the Thanksgiving holiday, Nintendo Japan will be about the same time and Europe.. Well who knows what goes on over there? A December 6th release date makes perfect.

Then again we know Nintendo Australia have been mixing it up with release dates lately, releasing things on the weekend and all sorts of other crazy stuff.

So who knows? We await word.

Aw well. The later the release, the longer it takes before Yahzee takes a massive dump all over it becasue he (for a reason that I can't wrap my head around) hates Nintendo consoles.

rage-induced feces??

MadWorld angers up the bowels.

Mario Kart Wii and Red Steel 2 are great games, as far as a huge number of people are concerned; the hate the get from a few people has always been comical. Red Steel 2 alone is a great lesson in what kind of games could have been made on the Wii had anyone given a shit to try.

I really don't care if a huge number of people liked Mario Kart Wii or Red Steel 2; I don't think enough people even played Red Steel 2 to say a huge number of people think it's great. Red Steel 2 runs into the problem of having great controls but that's it. It's a boring game. Just because the controls work well doesn't mean the game is good. See also: the Conduit. Red Steel 2 is obviously better than the Conduit, but I think you get what I'm driving at.

As for Mario Kart Wii, I think it's one of the weaker games in the series. It's essentially Mario Party on wheels, which I don't like, and even though Mario Kart has kind of always been like that, having 11 other drivers really highlights the feeling of skill not mattering all that much when you get destroyed by all the items in a row right before the finish line. It has a lot of characters, though, so that's neat.

And Prime Trilogy and RE4 cannot be compared to HD collections. They are mechanically unique versions of those games. Their fundamental interface and play are overhauled and only possible in the Wii versions.

I don't dispute that the Wii version are superior, but we're going to have to disagree on your first statement. Fundamentally, both HD collections and these Wii ports are re-releases. I feel like these sorts of critical, laudatory lists should highlight original games only. That said, if I was making a list of Wii games to recommend that someone go out and buy, both games would be on that list. I would do the same for the Sly Collection on the PS3. I know it's splitting hairs, but I think that's an important distinction when you're looking back on a system and deciding the best games. Those older games are still good, but we know that already. Please tell us about other great stuff that really defines this system.

Useless info of the day: Latest SDK is 2.06.02. Another point release with breaking changes it seems, as it once again breaks compatibility with previous versions.

So going with that information... and thinking that the rumor is true (I hope not xD).

Wii Release Dates:
NA November 19, 2006
JP December 2, 2006
AUS December 7, 2006
EU December 8, 2006

So... maybe a November 16-18th release?

November 22nd is Thanksgiving. And 23rd Black Friday. So a week release before Thanksgiving to get as many "regular" sales as possible, to then get all the money of every U.S. citizen possible :D.

... I still hope (deep in my heart and dreams) for an October release, haha.

On my friend's PS2 and Xbox 360 games, I occasionally (much more than I should have to) look down to check and see which buttons are which and then back at the screen. This takes a fraction of a second. I don't think it will be any more difficult to do so with the GamePad, and I suspect it's less much annoying when the reason for looking down is a bit more valid or practical (double-checking which letters are where for a QTE is a really annoying reason to do so; that's one of the things that makes me not a big fan of that particular mechanic).

I also believe that while gap between screens and difference in focal distance will take away some fractions of a second between gameplay they will be neglible if the trade off is to get useful information. Those points in the impressions caught my attention because it shows how some people out there doesn't see the value added with the interface and these little details seem to turn them off preferring the asymmetrical gameplay implementation. I guess those are the people who preferred titles like Wii Sports or Wii Fit because of the motion control than Red Steel 2 or MP3. On another side, I could bet that you will see some QTE that plays by touching icons on the screen, wich would make them more accesible for people not familiarized with the controls, but a little bit slower for those who are.

Nintendo needs to nail this stuff down pretty soon if they're going to start mass production before November, no? I'd think the interfaces (ABI, API, etc.) would be cast in stone by now.
