Halo |OT8| A Salt on the Control Room

Like for a whole generation, that shitty BAH BAH thing from NSMB sounds like "Mario".

I weep for the future

I think that's pretty much it, although those categories encompass a whole lot of smaller changes.

Edit: Meant to quote Woorloog at the bottom of last page.

Yep... i didn't want to list every small thing... Would be pointless really.

What 343i has overhauled or changed already?
Graphical style. Human stuff looks more scifi than before. The aliens have been redone to look more mean... YMMV ofc.
Sound and music.
Multiplayer fully canonized (previously the maps were real locations in Haloverse but that's it).
Multiplayer changes.
EDIT one more: The Chief is explored as a person, instead of just being.

Considering Marty's involvement in Bungie at the top level, him working for 343 would seem fairly low on "ever happening list".

Also, I'm not concerned at all. We already had another composer in Halo with Stephen Rippy, and he did a damn good job with Halo Wars.

Fascinating Frankie Fact #416: I played cello in the Tynecastle High School Orchestra. I did until they discovered I wasn't playing and letting the second cellist do all the hard work. But because I knew the finger positions I got away with it for a long time. I wanted to play guitar but it was already taken (dur) or Sax (because this was Lost Boys Eighties and sax was cool) but it was gone too. So I referred to the greatest cellist of all time, Captain Stringfellow Hawke and picked that instrument.

I did something like this for chorus. Needless to say, I was glad when I no longer had take chorus as a class in high school.

Indeed. Halo Wars main theme/main menu music is one of my favorite Halo pieces. Haunting, familiar, new.

What are you trying to say?

Some people are exceptional and get to wear the best of the best. Or prototypes... which may not be the best of the best...

EDIT gotta remember to order the artbook... vv

No sorry... Idra Leaving that game was madness and can not be applied to anything other then that moment.

MLG Expert Strategy – Recruits the best of the best (Major League Gaming sponsored Halo players) to give you strategies on every map and game type in Halo 4.

Cringe cringe cringe cringe.

I didn't know they invited Ogre1, Ogre2, Walshy and Strongside to 343 ;)

Imagine if its just power weapon locations and "hold here, wait for ordnance drop, don't die, win" A lot of wanna be MLG gamers are going to eat it up anyway though.

Plus: (Major League Gaming sponsored Halo players)

Can anyone tell me who these MLG sponsored players might be?!?!?!

If that was an art book, I might be interested.

But reading those... not so much. Especially this one.

That it's absolutely ridiculous and an unbelievable part of the canon that they are now tying together, unless some anime crack pot (like me) UNSC guy has a few billion (not like me) to spend on a dumb pet project to put together that ... armour.

Halo Wars did have an amazing soundtrack...its use of Piano, and its take on the main theme was so good. I will be very disappointed if Halo 4 abandons all ties of that theme.

Dishonored

Ah yeah, that also looks pretty awesome.

Assassins Creed 3. That's about it.

It's Halo's to lose.

You really think Halo 4 doesn't stand a chance? Assassins Creed 3 looks way too predictable. =/

Scores have to work better with the themes and elements they "describe."

Jaws for example - cool on its own, but the description of hulking, unseen danger is what makes it classic.

"Concerning Hobbits" from LOTR - perfectly encapsulates the twee mannerisms of the little folk and hints at a kind of snooty-yet-noble preciousness. The many iterations of "The Gael" from Last of the Mohicans successfully transform a classic folk theme into a perfect action-movie driver for the movie - while retaining the period feel.

But while some of the best scores are also eminently listenable on their own, they're exponentially better in their real context.
So, will any familiar themes return in Halo 4?

That cover is amazing, but I think my heart and cash will belong to the art book.

Dirty tag dodger
As a Gundam fan, I am not complaining about that armour.

As someone who isn't going to buy a new console just to get it, I am complaining. =/

That's a nice lookin' strategy guide. I think it must be my nostalgia of growing up with NP-shipped strategy guides, but I just love having a physical guide on-hand, even with GameFAQs, and now GAF/Wiki/YouTube can always get you through a tough spot. I still remember how detailed and layered the Star Fox 64 guide was, or how the God of War 2 guide helped me fall in love with it, with so many impressive art pieces and various details I wouldn't have noticed.

Although I'm sure those MLG "strats" will become immediately irrelevant after Nov. 6th.

Question, does this soundtrack have a central theme song that is used throughout the game?

Will there be any sort of revisit to Halo's main theme song?

I wish I could interview Davidge...

The UNSC has weapons that have terajoules of kinetic energy yet have issues fighting against the Covenant.
Planet-busting bombs (NOVA bomb).
A few hundred nukes ignite a gas giant and make it go nova.
The UNSC spends a lot of money for armors only about 30 soldiers can wear.
An ancient species creates a weapon to destroy their all-consuming opponent, destroys all life other life instead. Herp derp.

Taking account the mess that is called Halo canon, someone desingin an armor that looks like an unicorn is not odd...

Still like Halo but it has zero belivablity.

So far:
Awakening - Not bad, potentially great
Awakening (Gui Boratto remix) - Not bad
To Galaxy - Starts off pretty good, potential again
To Galaxy (Sander Van Doorn and Julian Jordan remix): >_> Eurgh.
Revival - OOoooh. This has real potential for a great in-game moment. At least it does until the end at which I wonder what is happening. I'm hoping it may actually be
Cortana related, even if the name leads to a more likely alternative.
That possibility really tickles my cockrels.
Beauty of Cortana (Apocalyptica vs. Neil Davidge): The "twist" to the song reminds me of another remix I enjoy, one by Akira Yamaoka.
Ascendancy - Eh. Unremarkable.
Haven (Hundred Waters Remix) - No clue what I think really.

.... really?
Really?

1) The Covenant have had far superior tech for 20 years. Instant distruction provided by better slip-space tech. They slice through UNSC weaponry before it has had the chance to fire.
2) Yes, and those 30 soldiers were a very effective tool stopping both Innies and Covies. They did refine the cost in later groups.
3) They did this knowingly, deeming it to be an acceptable cost. They did not however turn themselves into unicorns because their 12 year old Forerunner son likes Michael Bay travesties.

5 Anniversary achievements left for me! (Finally got the warthog run on The Maw one, pretty easy after I turned off Boom! :p)

1. Complete the game on Legendary
2. Complete The Library without dying
3. Complete Two Betrayals without killing any Grunts
4. Complete Two Betrayals without picking up a new weapon
5. Kill all enemies in the first fight of T&R without being detected

Any tips for 3, 4, and 5?

All spoilers i reckon. Speculation.

Never thought of the Cortana angle. I just assumed revival means reviving the Didact, to fight his other, evil-self the Ur-Didact

3. Co-op. Let the other player kill the Grunts.
4. Bandanna skull.
5. Stay back and snipe enemies. Too bad i don't have a capture card, could make a vid demonstrating... maybe some has a video guide already made?
EDIT 5. Essentially, start by the turret in front of you when you first see the open area. Shoot patrolling enemies first, don't go into open area. After shooting everyone close to the "entrance", take the high ground on the right and shoot the second turret and everyone around it. EDIT if any enemies wake, you failed. Restart.

3 - Either play with another person and just sit back while they kill everyone, or plug in a second controller and use the guest account to kill everyone

4 - just put on bandanna and spam grenades (or just above method)

5 - just stay back and don't be noticed

edit: beaten D:

I think Revival obviously implies
The Didact (which ever one is the bad one) coming out of his Cryptum to mess shit up
music deffinatlly fits with something on that scale because if I heard that while seeing a
13 foot tall Forerunner warrior come out of a Cryptum I would fucking loose it

Also I assume we will get A LOT of back story on
the Didact
through out the campaign via Cortana

The latter part first, i agree and i'm very interested in this.

Wonder if Halo 4 will have
one or two Didacts. If one, it may mean his release from the Cryptum as you suggest. If two... either one... Both are a possibility really, unless the big bad is something else completly. Maybe you revive the Didact to help you against that big bad?
I'd just imagine it will have two because of that little tidbit we've heard from Silentium

Dude, it's 1:45PM PDT.

The typical post for a BWU was around 5PM PDT as well.

I assume that the author of the piece writes it up during the day, and then posts it right before going home for the day in some cases.
