Dark Souls internal rendering resolution fix (DSfix)

Ok, let me get this straight.

If I set both the mod and the game to be 1080p, then the image will be straight up 1080p?

If I set the mod to be something higher, and the game to be 1080p, the game will downsample the mod resolution into 1080p, similar to supersampling AA?

If so, what resolution should I go for if I want downsamling? Just 1920x1080p times two?

Hmm.... ok i guess just dont like the fact that it's not working properly :-/ really quite annoying as i am runningn a fairly High spec rig, but if thats how it has to be done for now i guess i will just start playing....... it seems crazy that i cant just select 1080p anyway why would they limit what i can select >.<, but i guess thats not as crazy as having it locked at under 720p render anyway.... anyone know were i could make a change in an ini/cfg to fix this by any chance ? i cant even find one in the DS dir

If this isn't a problem in other games, maybe From is just using a goofy method to detect your monitors available resolutions that is imperfect. If this was something that was happening in several games than I would try to get to the bottom of the actual problem.

Just a quick message to say cheers Durante, was going to hold of till sale with the res probs, going to pick it up today.

Hopefully we can eventually get 60fps, I doubt it though with the key frame animation used.

Yeah no problems on ANY other game (well Except call of Pripyat) and this is just driving me up the wall lol, i want to like the game SO BAD, but its just not happening, guess ill start trying out these Full screen window mode proggies as the Cfg edit Did not work, im def gonna contact From/Valve about it in the next couple days just to start working on a fix, its just so irritating that i havent seen ANYONE else wit the same problem, i mean im sure someone else is running a 7970 on gaf.

Can i get that link to your preffered one again dude?

Durante i have question to ask.

Is there any possibility that your fix will include something like SSAO in future ?

Many people said already that this game needs to be ENB up. But i think what it needs most is SSAO. SSAO is part of Boris ENB. So it can be added via dx.dll

I mean closed spaces, a lot of them. I ask because i don't know if it is very hard to do thing or something simpler. Why i ask is that not many games did have their ENB config and i fear that this game may be not included on Boris list.

yup, 2x is a sweet spot for me. although you can go higher and maintain 30fps, in some spots you'll get massive drops - happens when lighting a bonfire for me.

if its something that cannot be fixed im gonna tone it down a few notches to avoid these drops

One more close-up screen showing the armor...

Wow, the detailing on his armet and hilt of the sword are surprisingly sharp-looking. This game doesn't look nearly as awful as some of the official screenshots suggest. Getting more and more tempting. If I finish DA:O this weekend, there's a good chance I'll take the plunge.

Wait, the fix is incompatible with the Afterburner? I want my Afterburner. I need my Afterburner!

If you want the Afterburner OSD, there is supposedly a setting in Afterburner that allows injectors, look a few posts back.

Version 0.3 released.

Should fix AF for those that have issues (it's now configurable).
Also allows toggling the mouse cursor on/off with F9.

I haven't even managed to play with 0.2 and you already push out 0.3, thanks! :D

Did the fullscreen windowed trick not work either? :(

Exactly what I will do also. I'm just waiting for a friend to buy the game on US Steam and then gift me the game. +1 sale for From due to Durante' effort.

Thanks, disabling my wiimote helped.

Now, how do I remove the damn intro files, like the Bandai, Namco, etc thing.

I'm using a 7970 but the 1920x1080 is available to me but it's more likely your monitor that is giving the game trouble. This is the one I'm using. http://oblivion.nexusmods.com/mods/39550

It sits in the tray and all I have to do is set the game to Windowed Mode 1920x1080 resolution. Once I launch the game (I'd wait until the GFWL popup appears) I press ctrl+Enter and the taskbar vanishes and the window is position to be fullscreen no borders. I edited out all of the game .exe files that he puts in the .ini file by default and just use the hot key to go into Borderless Windowed mode. Works on almost every game I play and using windowed mode is so much nicer when you want to multitask and alt-tab.

I love to open more people up to using something like this. It's not a game changer but having the Borderless Windowed option in almost all games is great for convenience. I'm not sure how nicely it plays with multi-monitors though.

Thanks Durante for the stellar work in making this look like it does.

Has anyone had any problems with the game using a 360 controller? Mine is in, but the buttons aren't doing anything. The home button brings up the home menu and that's it. Just tried another game and that works fine.

Afterburner has no bearing on fps for me. It seems to be running better because the game has AI and thinks for itself lol

I tried it with it off and that was before supersampling the res to 2560x1440. I even added AA (which may or may not work) via RadeonPro and saw improved frames. Not sure what's the cause but as was mentioned earlier, certain hub rooms seem to perform worse. Like rooms with multiple exits. Not sure about this though as I have no real way to gauge.

I haven't heard any GFWL issues reported yet.......Have there been any?

Corrupted save files, yes. I've had one prompt but the game fixed the file for me.

if you have used a wiimote, make sure it is disabled, heard it causes problems

I'm playing with a PS3 Controller. Works nicely. I wanted to use keyboard mouse, but the lack of instructions as you play made me say forget it.

I have a 2560x1600 display, does anyone know if this resolution will work well without causing stretching or other issues with this game, or is it 16:9 only?

Also, others were talking about downsampling and running the game at 2160p or downsampling from 2160p. Like the mod runs at 2160p and then it is downsampled to 1440p? Does this make the game look better compared to just doing 1440p in the mod and the game? I understand where you make the changes in the mod which is the DSfix.ini file, but I dont understand how that is downsampled. My only guess is putting a resolution in the DSfix.ini that is higher than your display resolution and then it automatically downsamples to the max resolution of your display.

Hey dude i dont suppose you have any other programs that i can try this one wont work :(

It's kind of ridiculous that one guy is releasing patches and patch updates that virtually everyone who purchased the game is going to use, and neither the developer or publisher has said anything about it

I'll just throw this out there, I'm not sure if it's been mentioned but there seems to be some weird filter that adds a lot of noise(?) which at a distance seems to add a sandy texture to everything but really close up, it makes the character look weird and blurry. Is that something that could be potentially removed?

I'm gonna grab this after work, but I have no clue about downsampling.

Im running a Phenom 955 @ 3.2 with 560ti. What do you guys recommend I set the resolution at if I want to downsample but still maintain a good framerate?
