I've won a bunch of games from losing positions. Sometimes you just get totally in the zone and get a huge chain and end with 250 attack and 250 defence, and there's basically nothing your opponent can do unless they were that good as well. It's what I like about it, you've never, ever lost a match until you've actually lost it. There's always a way back if you have a great round.

In Happy Street news: FUCK. I just opened it, it reset itself back to an empty street, so I closed it and now it won't reopen. I suppose I'm probably done with that now, then.

True, maybe I'm just trying to hard to give the game a chance but I think it's because my iPad screen is too large. Like I would do better on an iPhone sized screen. I don't know lol.

And I just started Happy Street last night. It was sitting in my games folder for the longest time and I'm hooked now. I really don't need another game that requires my daily attention to it, but it's so good.

Edit: TWEWY is $20? Oh my good god, that's kind of expensive.

Edit 2: Also, is anyone else looking forward to Zombox? I wish he would give us a release date though.

One thing that's been annoying me in Happy Street is how my residents will show a gray icon above their head because they are wanting something, yet what they want is right there and they keep walking by it. It takes their happiness bar getting at its lowest before they'll go to it. I keep thinking they'll start leaving.

Yay, TWWEY is out on the BR store. Downloading it now.

It's not the 27th here yet so it may go up on the US store earlier than we expect.

Another thing for Happy Street that seems to really help is to always try to be crafting something. I always keep 3 buckets of water around, so I always have it without having to switch back to the forest, and because sometimes Pepin asks for an empty bucket in exchange for a Flooz.

As far as the Workshop goes, if you check the game often (like me) it's definitely worth your time to have a "Plank making session" and just makethem over and over for a while, since you always need them for upgrades or recipes. I really wish there was a way to make multiples, or multiple workshops. When I know I can't check for a while, I always make Rope (or one of the other 2-3 hour items like Glue/Bouquets) since Rope is needed for a bunch of other items. I always try to time it so I can make a black lotus overnight, in case I need a black belt or rainbow fish. I basically try to keep one or two of everything in stock.

With Nyok's house, I always try to make as much of the base dyes (blue/yellow/red) as possible, especially blue since those can be used for Lucky Spin tokens. I also try to keep 2-3 of the stews/soups in stock for deals, and usually make birthday cake or another 8hr recipe overnight. Same deal in the mountains, I keep 15 or so stone in stock then craft a few ovens or anvils (fuck dragon idols, seriously). Hammers And guitars are really a bitch to make, since they require rope and planks and rope takes wayyyyy too freaking long, it should be 1 hour max.

Anyway, it seems like a lot of work but if you make sure to always craft stuff you don't need you'll increase the likelihood that you'll have whatever Pepin is looking for. Sometimes I can cycle through 5 or 6 deals in a row and rack up a lot of flooz and gold. Once you cash an item in, I think you can make Pepin load a new deal faster by checking a friend's street, going to the forest/mountain and back, or exiting/reopening the app.

The only thing I ever seem to never have is Cut Moonstone :(

I wanted to buy TWEWY since I only played a little back in DS, but I can't justify that price tag. I'd rather own the game for my DS and okay it in its native platform I think.

Zombox looks so totally utterly awesome.

But it seems as if it will never be released.

It's making progress, but slowly. He just posted a new dev diary update about special attacks! [link]

Wait, what??? I thought it wouldn't even be out this week, I was already ordering a new gift card. Guess I'll be playing some TWEWY tonight then. :D

Just jumped on board Happy Street and Puzzle Craft. So far I'm really digging both of them.

For Puzzle Craft, is there any sort of real strategy as far as what to buy and the order to buy things, or is it just basically play until you get everything?

For Happy Street, do you have to be Game Center friends in order to be friends in the game? If so, feel free to add me on GC: dookpoops

I deleted Monster Life because there was nothing to do in that game. It had charm, and the monsters were cool looking, but there were no mini-games or other things to tap on while you were waiting. I'm about to delete Simpson's Tapped Out for the same reason. I like the idea of a virtual Springfield with lots of Simpsons characters, but there's just nothing to do in that game. At least in Happy Street there is always stuff to tap on, bird poop to collect, crafting, cooking, fishing, upgrading, etc. Snoopy's Street Fair is another good one. I feel kinda lame for getting sucked in to these games, but man they are addicting.

Quick question about Carcassonne: Is it worth getting if I plan to play offline most of the time? My iPad is wifi-only and I find myself without wifi more often than with, so for a game that expensive it'd have to have a pretty solid offline mode for me to consider it.

Already cleared some space for TWEWY, but Sanuku (who made the videos posted here) is claiming the game plays better on the iPhone's smaller screen. Guess I'll wait a few more impressions on iPad gameplay.

And who's making the OT?

I'm terrible with this stuff, so I'm not doing it! :p

It's always hard to clear space. Some tough choices. I still haven't finished Chaos Rings 2, so this one stayed... for now.

I bought TWEWY.

Looking forward to the far superior single screen combat where I don't have to take my eyes off of my main character in order to play effectively. /reverse trolling

Eternity Warriors 2 is surprisingly fun. It's buggy (crashes often...) and requires notifications on to work at the moment. It's pretty shitty in that respect, but the gameplay and multiplayer is pretty rad. I don't like that I'm just a number and don't have a Friends list, but it's still fun to go around with a random and clear a level.

Real quick. I have opportunity to buy iPad 2 32gb for $325. Should I get it? I want an iPad. How many years will iPad 2 be good for?

I bought mine at release and MAY upgrade at the next full revision, but otherwise, it's been a fantastic device (for everything - movies, web, email, gaming, etc). For that price, I'd probably bite if it were in great condition.

I'm playing it on the iPhone and so far no issues whatsoever. I still can't provide in-depth impressions because I'm on the 3rd day, which means all the systems are still being unlocked one after the other, but all the pins available at this point + moving Neku around worked like they should just like in the DS version. I'm going to bed so unfortunately I have to stop for now.

Another thing, I was wondering if they'd scrap the sub-slot mechanic (optional feature for when you set pins with the same activation style in your deck), but it's still there. Instead of holding L or R to use the pins set to a sub-slot, you hold a "sub" button on the lower left of the screen with the thumb of the hand holding the device while you use the pin with the index finger of the playing hand. So stylus and button aside, pretty much the same way it was on the DS too.

sigh. I wish Square would offer the uncompressed audio as optional downloads. I thought 600+ MB for Chrono Trigger was bad, but 2.3 gigs for TWEWY is asking a lot of me.

yeah, am curious about puck and how bosses work. If I remember correctly most bosses patterns use both screens.

Don't cutscenes also use both screens?

hmmm...

SE is so random with their ports. I was betting hard that FF4 DS would be the next ios port.

All I'm wondering about TWEWY at this point is how they handled the dual combat system of the original game. I played full manual on the DS which was a hell of a lot more effective than any of the automatic options, so not being able to control both battles simultaneously would be a big reason not to double dip.

Yeah, the file size is easily the worst thing about this so far, very unreasonable.

The cutscenes that used both screens are still there but differently. For example, when Neku looks at his hand/pins/etc it would usually be shown on the other screen, but here you get pop-ups like this (not direct screenshots, took this on youtube):

C9SxK.png
oNYd8.png

It comes up with a bounce and goes away after you tap. Elegant solution imo. The cutscenes that took both screens just happen in a single one now, like when you'd get a character filling both screens and such. For people who never played it before it's impossible to notice there was any difference originally, at least up to where I am.

The partner mechanic is barebones as of now but I'm expecting it to open up more when the specials and cards system thing mentioned on the site are unlocked, so I'm withholding my judgment. At the start you tap the enemies and Shiki attacks, and if you attack intermittently with her the sync goes up. I'm mostly curious about the bosses that used two screens.

I can make a thread tomorrow if no one makes one but I'm just thinking if it isn't better to discuss the game here. I have a feeling that any new TWEWY iOS-specific thread will just attract all the butthurt garbage from the other ones and that usually makes it hard to talk about the game itself.

There kind of is an official thread already but it's saltier than an anchovy.
Yeah, I'm not touching that thread anymore. It's the announcement thread though so it's still possible to have an OT, but like I said I fear the same will happen to it so I don't know.

Report from that thread indicates no iPad Retina....nooooooo!?!? Glad I didn't take the plunge...I almost trusted S-E!

TWEWY says it's 589MB for the iPad version, why do you need over 2GB? Does it take up more space once you download it?

I couldn't imagine playing this with the small screen real estate of the iPod. If it was universal, I'd try, lol.

Just beat Day 1. Battle system seems largely the same. As I've said before, I tend to ignore the 2nd screen in the DS version since it distracted me from playing Neku, especially on higher difficulties. That being the case, I like getting rid of the 2nd screen. One less thing to worry about.

The controls are great. Just like they were on DS. I like the way the game looks. I've got a couple of images I'll upload.

Uncompressed music is really nice.

Going to go play some more.

Good to know. Yeah, I always ignored the other screen also.

Fuck SE for it not being universal.

If you had to choose, which version is better?

I play all games on my iOS iPad. I haven't bought an iPod/iPhone game in a long, long time.

That being said, with the way you have to swipe the screen with some pins, I would imagine your fingers would take up a lot of space and be less accurate on the smaller screen. That was alleviated with a stylus on the DS.

That's just me guessing, though. And probably a bit biased since I have large hands that are always getting in the way.

Most iOS games take like double the space that it is indicated inthe store. This is 2.3gb due to uncompressed music.

Does Square-Enix ever do some sales? Not universal makes me want to wait.

Very rare and very minimal sales. They are no EA 0.99 three days after release. Generally you can expect a drop around a sequel but not much else.

SE has sales very rarely. For the moment I'll wait on TWEWY just because I'm low on space and long on backlog. I'll add it to my appshopper to help me remember to buy it later, but I'll probably end up paying full price for it.

For those playing TWEWY, what did SE do about the second screen during battle? Was that element just removed?

Yeah one screen battles.

Googling "Little Ninja Rush" leads me to the App Store, their Facebook page and this thread with ToxicAdam suggesting it and me asking how to unlock stuff.

I guess it's futile to ask again :lol
