My source is my ass!

So you agree that the scenario of alleviating the OS + system features footprint on ram by using the flash is possible.

Then, the event of 1GB total with roughly 1GB for games (say 9XXMB so rounded up as 1GB) and XXXMB for the Wii U functions divided between XXMB in the ram and XXMB to XXXMB on the flash is possible.

There are a few elements that don't make me believe in this scenario 3 of mine. But this tidbit of "retail condition" (point four in my long post) is making me at least considering it whereas it wasn't the case before. So i basically cover my back and present this scenario :p

I'm just curious if they're really not ready to be shown or they if just want to keep these potential aces very close to their chest until the latest possible moment.

I think Retro and EAD Tokyo's (no clue about Monolith) could have been shown, but I'm guessing they changed their E3 philosophy and decided to only show the launch window games.

Hi guys, good to be back and great to see a date for Wii U info.

One thing I noticed while on my posting hiatus was the contrast between some people thinking that the 13th will be just the same as what we already know, and others saying it will be a blow out of info. What's the precedent here because isn't that going to give us an indication as to what's really going to be there?

All this talk about main systems and what not

How much does that apply to anyone here? Raise your hand if, before spec talk, your intention was to buy only one system and never anything else and explain why that isn't crazy times.

That's me. I've always only wanted one console next generation (And I'm not a PC gamer) so I can spend money on games and not other systems as well as keep my cash for my Real Life(tm). I don't want another "western third party wasteland" like what I had with the Wii (I had a PS3 but that died).

Where I sit at the moment is I'll probably get a Wii U then reevaluate it when the next systems come out and if western third party games aren't looking promising on Wii U, I'll sell it and get another console.

Lol, sometimes this thread amazes me XD
Can you elaborate lherre?

Cool thing from Reddit's frontpage, hope it wasn't posted already. It's fan made, but I wished it existed. I'll just leave it here.

Ok. How about this? Keep your expectations where they are. If the upcoming conference bombs, then you have all the right to upset at Nintendo. Hell, even I'll be upset (they need to show people a reason for them NEEDING a Wii U).

I see you've been burned by Nintendo, maybe they can make nice this gen huh?

They'll keep telling you that you NEED the console for Nintendoland. Just a warning :)
I enjoyed the Wii more than many others probably, but the E3 was always a good indicator of the upcoming year and people trying to downplay the conference when it was shitty isn't new either.
Best chances that are left for minor announcements imo is Iwatas ,,something'' that will happen ,,whenever''.

They're making F-Zero in conjunction with EAD Tokyo.

More likely they make the Nintendoland minigame, like the Wave Race guys that did the jetski minigame in Wii Sports 2, haha...

Thanks for the response. I think positional sound in games does add something that is often overlooked with the focus on graphics and such. If the sound design is done properly in a game you can be alerted to enemies just by sound and know exactly where they are coming from. Probably save your life a few times in a game like Dark Souls. To me this pretty important in most 3d games and I would be sad to see unavailable without a further purchase.

I don't know if its enough to make me skip purchasing a Wii U if the games that I want to see appear on the system but it doesn't give me any confidence after seeing a $30 Bluray player at Walmart be able to support these outputs but some company coming off a successful console generation sitting on a 30billion dollar war chest cant include these basic features and the only reason is that they are cheap or "oh, its Nintendo".

The issue is your receiver, not Nintendo. TOSLINK is obsolete, and you'll see more and more devices requiring HDMI for audio. When you inevitably do upgrade your receiver, just make sure to buy one with as many HDMI inputs as possible. I'm probably going to have to upgrade mine this fall for WiiU and to simplify my connections for 3D. The days of a receiver lasting a decade or more sadly appear to be over.

remember the smash bros announcement? or the sudden mario tennis release? the rule doesnt really work anymore..

Don't remember what happened with Mario Tennis but Smash Bros was probably just a "safe" panic move. A new Smash Bros title is inevitable and always causes excitement. Since, apparently, Iwata didn't even consult with Sakurai before making the announcement I don't think this fits here.

Whatever the Retro, EAD Tokyo and MLSI titles are, they're probably more "whoa" surprise material than a new Smash game. Pretty much like Iwata just keeps casually announcing portable Mario titles (3D Land at GDC '11 and NSMB2 at Investor Briefing '12).

Nah, all the "battles" between users, specs, "nintendudes", etc
It's fun

Ha! I can imagine it would be fun for someone in your position that knows "the truth" but for a lot of folks here it's just pure torture :) At least the speculation will end once the thing is on sale and someone rips it open, or leaks the final info.

I didn't get to read every post throughout my leave of absence but from what I can guess, did someone come out and leak that the final unit has 1GB for games - period?

PD: MG GZ is amazing in my opinion.

MGS:GZ for Wii U confirmed. :p

This thread would be full of calmed and coherent messages if only you were able to relax and enjoy a simple NeoGAF interrogation session. lol

Every game company can handle HD. Even small ones. The high risk HD production you are referring to is more towards the typical AAA Western market high budget game. But that isn't what these small Japanese developers would be creating anyway. They will make the same kind of games they have always been making, with higher resolution art. There is also a bigger medium with 3DS, and e-Shop that can release games for.

Yea most of those small Nintendo devs didnt even make games for Wii, they will stick to handle held and eShop games anyways.

What!? Why not? Why ignore Wii U now that it's more powerful than the HD twins? Or is it simply that Konami doesn't care about the Wii U hardware?
He probably doesn't think the Nintendo audience is mature enough or they are too small an audience compared to the "vast" sea of Nintendo casuals.

Double Fine on a Nintendo platform?

Now if it's true about Sega offering digital content and the eShop offering will be... good.

Surprising.

Fuck..that shit could actually work..I know Nintendo could make some kind of epic You control Popo while looking at the tv screen and control Nana looking at the controller type puzzle adventure game something.

Why would third parties knowingly make decisions against their own financial interest?

Because there's risk involved, and they don't think the risk is worth the possible reward on a Nintendo console based on past history.

Do you genuinely think that these companies irrationally hate Nintendo so much that they'd throw money away rather than make games for them?

Again, it's a risk analysis, and FUD from Wii years hasn't really gone away. Were you paying attention to the logic hoops companies/developers were throwing themselves through to avoid considering Wii development in 2007/2008 last gen?

Edit: Never mind, I checked your tag.

Of tags I could've been given, I think this one is actually pretty good. EA has been proving it correct again and again in the run up to Wii U.

Sega's giving a big push with their digital offerings, so it's probably safe to expect their future digital titles to end up on the Wii U. But who knows what'll happen to the games that come out before the Wii U is released (like JSR, NiGHTS and SA2).

Screw third parties for a second, what's with all these eShop/indie titles with polish getting announced for Wii U in surplus? I could definitely see a great future for the Wii U if stuff like this keeps up. Even moreso if folks aren't lying about it being nice/easy to develop for the eShop.

*Needs an office and folks to do shit with ASAP.*

Lol. Can't wait. I can't wait to see the Steam support for the Wii U.
Also old news but still makes me laugh. Poor EA Still they have very few games I like from them.
It makes me sad because I remember all the "Can my computer run Crysis" stuff and now I heard they took out all the Destructive awesomeness.
ZOMBIE U
PIKMIN 3
My life is now complete.

I see what you're saying now, but there's lots of bias behind posts. For example, when a certain group of posters who have a post history of consistently praising and defending a certain company repeatedly try to put out the notion that PS4 and 720 won't be that much more powerful than the Wii U, which itself is heavily rumored to be underpowered, is it just a coincidence? Does pointing out that it might not be make me a bad dude? I dunno

Haha. But that's my point though, which I've pointed out to during one of the other times you did this. It's not exclusive to one group. You pin certain things as only being done by "Nintendo fans" and as I said at that time those certain things aren't limited to one group. It's not the times where some "try to put out the notion that PS4 and 720 won't be that much more powerful than the Wii U".

When you tried to pull that with me, I had let you know that I'm more interested in console business and tech before being a Nintendo fan.

And by the way, I don't see you as a bad guy. What I see is you placing unfair blame because of how you seem to view things.

You know, whether or not the Wii U releases in October it is at least POSSIBLE for some Wii U games to be released ahead of time.

Yeah but releasing a game 3 weeks prior to the assumed November 18ish release date... Anyway it means nothing I know but I just figured I'd do my due diligence :)

If the PAL region is getting WiiU in December and you can buy a game in October for it... something is off. But I have seen games out a least two weeks before a launch.

Console RAM is different from PC RAM

My apologies, i thought the person who mentioned that info was talking about console Ram and how cheap Nintendo could source it.

Ram is very important, there should have been at least 2GB of overall Ram in a console released at the tail end of 2012, esp when we have heard that the CPU and GPU are by no means powerhouses.

All this squabbling over RAM reminds me about the Gamecube and how "weak" its specs were for the same reason, even when compared to the PS2.

Numbers and specs mean nothing without information about how it all comes together, and there's so many holes in our information that we aren't going to know that until after launch, the way it ALWAYS is.

the machine could only push out 10, maybe 12 million polygons per second max!

whatever happened to polygons per second as a measurement?

and how come we went from bits to pps to ram?

People that believe Nintendos shitty E3 was just part of some masterplan (because it is supposed to be obsolete all of a sudden... what?) are in for a rude awakening. Well, maybe not. Anyone who still passionately defends this mess Nintendo calls the WiiU might just find even more excuses after the september thing will not bring any new game announcements. I already see the hope that will be put into these Direct things afterwards and after these also not deliver, E3 will abrubtly be called the savior again.
Japanese support is officially still under wraps, but I'm not holding my breath for any stellar lineup (that would be needed right now) if they do not even care enough to have a Japan-specific conference for that. Sudas new game has been reconfirmed PS360 only, I don't see such a title at Nintendos Japan unveiling tbh.
I personally hardly even give a shit about Western 3rd parties with their unbearable library of embarassing cinematic anti-games, but it sure makes you wonder what Nintendo has been doing exactly if they didn't even go out to get themselves mere ports of upcoming games. Because the biggest joke is that there are not even substantial Nintendo games with a certain amount of effort that would make up for all this. (And these are what you'd usually expect from a goddamn, brandnew Nintendo console) It's pretty much Pikmin for at least 6 months and as long as they do not present anything further, I must also assume the worst for anything beyond launch window.

Wow !, troll much ?.

If the Wii U is a 'mess' then why even post in the official topic about the system ?.

I agree with you that people are setting themselves up for disappointment for September 13th as all i think it will be is another chance for the press to play updated builds of launch / window games and there will be a small presentation from Reggie basically going over what he said at E3 but this time with a price and release date.

E3 was fine, people need to get over it, of course it would of been nice to see some of the big boys like 3D Mario, Zelda, Metroid, Smash Bros, F Zero, Starfox ect but Nintendo chose to only show the launch / launch window software.

It will turn out to be a very smart move imo, when E3 2013 comes and Sony and MS show off either the first reveal of PS4 / 720 or the launch games if they have been revealed before E3, Nintendo will have a showreel of first party games built from the ground up to take full advantage of their new hardware that will blow every one away.

It's pretty much Pikmin for the next 6 months ?, lol what planet are you on ?.

ZombiU, P-100, Lego City, Rabbids Land, NSMB U, Wii Fit U, Nintendo Land, Rayman Legends along with versions of massive winter 2012 games like Blops 2, Madden 13, Fifa 13 and Assassin's Creed 3 ect.

If anything there are too many launch / launch window games and some will have extremely poor sales.

Wii U will have the strongest ever selection of launch games in the history of gaming imo, casual games, fitness games, old HD ports, new multi platform games, big first party games, singing / dancing games, party games, third party exclusives, almost every genre is covered.

It's exactly the console they described at E3 2011, for both the casual and the core, most people knew they wouldn't be able to get most of the massive late 2012 / early 2013 games straight away, i don't know why it's such a surprise.

If the console hits 5 million sales in it's first 6 months then expect a line of third party developers around the block to release a version of things like Borderlands 2, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Bioshock ect, companies can not afford to turn down a potential 1.5 - 2 million possible sales of a product in this financial climate.
