For me is easy as I see like:

"Buy a Wii U and you will get at launch Pikmin, P100, Nintendo Land, Zombie U!!! Future? Well you know that at least you will get a 3D Mario game, a new Zelda game, and Smash Brothers, how about that to think about the future huh?"

So I'm compeletely sold on the thing.

Doesn't matter so much as long as Zombie U is in the works. That game is more impressive than most anything they've made on Wii so far and it's only a launch title. It'd be cool if they revisit Ghost Recon on the Wii U down the road, though.

None of this even sounds concrete. It's all "wait and see" approach. Tired of this cycle with Nintendo.

mario, zelda, smash brothers and donkey kong will happen. concrete enough?

Me too. It's the people on the fence that I still have a slight worry about....

I'm taking the positive route though. It'll all be fine and dandy :)

With the mediocre launch titles and no incite to future titles, Nintendo really expects to sell out?

The Wii U will sell out through Christmas just because it's a new console. And it's going to have a Mario at launch, so the demand will obviously be there. Before the end of the year I think that Nintendo's going to have to hold a Nintendo Direct where they show off what's coming next year. They can't keep people in the dark about 2013.

That's probably right, but it's also clear that both strategies are wrong:

1) 3ds situations: hey thousands of games! just now you have Steel diver, wait months for proper games.

2) Wii U: hey! good games as Pikmin and Mario and P1000 and Land! Buy the console! You just trust us that others are coming...don't know what and when but keep calm...

Right way? Wii one: Hey! Here you have Sport as a free gift, and Zelda and Excite Truck! But you'll have very soon also Galaxy and Metroid and Paper Mario!

Gamecube was like the Wii. And N64. And SNES...

The badly though out launches have only really started with the 3DS.

I'm far more accepting of the 3DS' "Look at all these fuck awesome games that may or may not be released within the first two years of launch!" approach. It sold me on a 3DS day one. Of course, no one could have predicted a god damn price drop before the holiday :lol

Not showing their big franchises running on Wii U, even as tech demos, is a god awful idea. Wii U is my least hyped console of all time, and that lack of excitement seems to be the consensus everywhere.

I think Nintendo is changing in that regard. The introduction of their Nintendo Direct concept, where they try to establish a faster and more "direct" connetion to their fans is an idication. Much like they've done with the 3DS.

They will provide their audience with enough information, but not all at once. They rather provide them in bits, so that they can maintain the excitment longer, extend the momentum. It's much better IMO.

Also, I think they are working in favor of Ubisoft to quit some degree. Ubi is doing a lot of them by providing a lot of early support. They don't want to hurt their launch games with announcments of games that are years long away if that's even possible (their launch line up is more than solid).

If anthing, the weak E3 presentations and the Nintendo Direct trend is a indication of Nintendo learning and attempting do things better.

People should stop worrying so much. It's all a strategy. Make sure the launch succeds, make sure you've got Eastern covered, make sure Christmas 2013 is covered - and then releases inbetween.

No need to worry.

i'm not expecting to see any new games, outside of things from 3rd parties falling in the launch window. stuff that wouldn't really be exciting either, just ticking a few third party multiplatform boxes.

if they DO want to show off the 'future' of the platform i'm sure they'll do it clearly this time. in a sort of 'and here's some stuff coming later on' sort of way. even if it's just a bunch of logos on a screen or something like that.

still, i've got no expectations of such things. Nintendo consoles don't generally suffer from poor software support (outside of the normal post launch drought that EVERY console has) until after they've been on the market for three or four years.

I agree almost on everythihg. The paradox (for me) is that the launch window is really proposing various games of my interest (Mario, Pikmin, P100, Land, Rayman, Zombi, Scribblenauts, maybe Lego City, Assassins, All star racing, Alien, Toki tori, Trine2) even more that previous launch windows, but I'm freezed by the 2013 and Japanese lack of info.

I was planning on getting a 3DS this year, but with the WiiU possibly being $250 and launching with stuff like NSMBW, Pikmin 3, P-100, and Rayman Legends might make the decision on what hardware to buy this year pretty difficult. It would be pretty great if that happened with the WiiU's launch.

Since when was P-100 a launch game? I'm sure it's always been tba 2013. Hence why it's a working title. It'll probably end up being called "Heroes Unite" or something.

Yep. When asked during the game's unveiling if P-100 would be a launch title, Platinum Games said the game would be a launch window title.

No way, DS also had an awful launch. Even worse than 3DS honestly.

Jeez, looking back at it, I must have purged it from my mind. It was pretty awful. Although I seem to remember being pretty excited for New Super Mario Bros at the time. And playing as Luigi in Mario 64 was a childhood dream come true.

DS launch was terribad. Honestly, the Wii launch back in 2006 was pretty bad as well.

Wii launch is looking awesome compared to Wii U. Zelda was very good, and Wii Sports ended up being really fun for that first year.

It's "launch window". That could mean anywhere from launch day to early 2013.

Yeah, but the insane Zelda hype + showing off Wii Sports to the family during holidays went one hell of a long way.

For launch day... ehhh we'll see. Depends heavily on how ZombiU and Nintendo Land turn out, and which games make it to day one.
Wii U's launch window vs Wii's launch window is no contest.

That's like... 2 games. And one was available on Gamecube and the other was a casual game.

Wii U launch looks more interesting.

Thankfully I made a post awhile back that could be copied and pasted from another board.

On March 29th I made this post.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=36485259&#post36485259

On April 5th Li Mu Bai made this post.

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showthread.php?p=1634440#post1634440

And on April 10th ShockingAlberto made this post.

www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?p=36838594&#post36838594

You'll see a consistent theme in these posts dealing with games being built from the ground up. Beyond that, I can't say.

He also used to post on GAF many moons ago, but I'm not saying that as some kind of proof to prop him up.
The newcomers might not know this, but the Wii U community members would. Basically, ports of 360/PS3 games won't look better on Wii U due to hardware differences in architecture, but first party games built from the ground up will look amazing and better than anything ever seen on a console before (until 720/PS4). Also, the Wii U will get ports of PS4/720 but it won't look as graphically impressive. Think high setting PC games vs. low setting PC games.

Its getting old hearing about how Wiisports didnt need to be explained first. You bet your ass it did. Nearly every game has a learning curve despite the obvious motions one would assume youd need to perform in order to play it. In golf, you do not simply swing the wiimote. For any level of decent interaction you must learn what the game wants from you. Same with bowling, same with boxing etc etc. The "games" or sports themselves may be recognizable from the get go, but how stupid would people have to be to not understand swinging a sword in the zelda game, or the 2 minutes of explanation it would take to get the rules of Luigis Haunted Mansion down? The fact that everyone and their mother bought and played a Wii with Wiisports already is the exact reason why Nintendoland doesnt need an easier learning curve. Its plenty easy enough.

you may need to be told to swing the tennis racket and not worry about the where the player is, or what buttons to push to get the bowling ball to work, but at the end of the day it's very simple conceptually: swing the racket, roll the ball, punch the guy.

the zelda nintendo land for example, it has you aim with the pad by moving it around, and then pull back on the arrow using the left analog stick, and let go to fire. you can tell someone a wii remote is a tennis racket and they'll understand instantly. you tell someone the wii pad is a bow and arrow and they'll give you a look like you're crazy.

And as much as I liked both at launch, one was a glorified (but extremely fun) techdemo and the other a Gamecube port. Looking at the launch from a different perspective there wasn't much. Bad ports such as Spongebob, Far Cry and Splinter Cell DA, a horrible Tony Hawk game, Red Steel, Elebits and uh, well yeah.

The Wii U launch seems better at this point.

wii launch had zelda, wii sports, excitebots, raving rabbids, metal slug anthology, and super monkey ball

wii u launch has nsmbu, pikmin 3, rayman origins, zombi u, scribblenauts unlimited, and tank! tank! tank!

i think the choice is clear.

Agree. There is a lot of revisionist history going on here. Zelda was great, but it was a Gamecube port.

3rd party lineup is in my mind significantly better this time around, and 2D Mario+Pikmin+Platinum games is a decent start first party wise.

ExciteTRUCK.

but still, yes, Wii U launch is definately looking better.

NSMBU, Pikmin 3, ZombiU all look really good and I'd buy a Wii U at launch to play them, but man I'd really like to see some Zelda or Metroid or Mario Galaxy or Donkey Kong or Kid Icarus or SOMETHING for 2013.

It's not that I don't think there would be (because obviously there will), but I can't get excited the way I was for the Wii. Hoping we get some 2013 news before launch.

I think NSMBU, Pikmin 3, P-100, and ZombiU are excellent titles for launch window. And I know there will be an HD Zelda, HD Metroid, HD 3D Mario, HD Smash Bros, HD Mario kart, an HD Donkey Kong, and an HDJRPG coming from Monolith. That's 11 games I am for sure buying in the consoles life cycle and those 11 are worth the purchase alone.

Yes, I agree. The launch window stuff is good, but nothing that makes you really excited for the system.

Not to mention Assassin Creed 3, Mass Effect 3 and Batman Arkham City. Sure all three of these games will release one month, months or even a year after the 360/PS3/PC(other than AC3 PC who will probably receive it about the same time) ports, but hey... at least they're there for those who missed them.

Hopefully Batman and ME3 aren't going to be sold at the price they were at their original release.

This is the right way to do it, they have a must better launch then 3DS for WiiU, they need to finish showing off launch and then tease the future before launch.

They cant wait til Dec or early next year to talk about 2013 titles thats way too late and its something Nintendo has never done, a new console you want people to be exited to buy it.

We already know the 2013 titles, launch window officially goes at least until March. And of course, there will be delays. Just like on 3DS, with Luigis Mansion and Castlevania that were assured to hit this christmas, lol.
All of a sudden, the launch will not look so glorious anymore, while no one knows what's coming beyond with this idiotic strategy, that basically relies on launch buyers who must have enough faith in much later announcements.

I mean, at this point I care less about the games and more about hoping Nintendo blows the roof off the place because Spieler Eins' gimmick has gotten boring.

That is old news and that link is from June

The PC version is out now, so i'm sure they are working on the WiiU version now

You Americans. The link's from today (6/9/12) the website just displays the date the correct way ;)

It's only been confirmed in the past as taking a back seat, not being shelved! afaik

Yup. Sure, Zelda was there during a launch and that was a great thing. But if I wanted to, I could have gotten the GC version. Btw, Nintendo's first party line-up was a slow start on Wii too.

2006: Wii Sports, The Legend of Zelda Twilight Princess, Wii Play (NA February '07) and Excite Truck (lol yurop February '07!)

2007: Warioware Smooth Moves, Super Paper Mario, (lol Yurop five month delay)
Big Brain Academy: Wii Degree, Pokémon Battle Revolution, Mario Strikers Charged, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, Donkey Kong Barrel Blast, Battalion Wars 2, Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, (lol yurop 2008!) Super Mario Galaxy and Link's Crossbow Training.

And this was the launch list back in '06

Code:
Avatar: The Last Airbender (US)
Barnyard (US)
Call of Duty 3 (NA/EU)
Cars (NA/EU)
Crayon Shin-chan: Saikyou Kazoku Kasukabe King Wii (JP)
Dragon Ball Z: Budokai Tenkaichi 2 (NA)
Elebits (JP)
Ennichi no Tatsujin (JP)
Excite Truck (NA)
The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy (NA)
Gottlieb Pinball Classics (EU)
GT Pro Series (NA/US)
Happy Feet (NA/EU)
Kororinpa: Marble Mania (JP)
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess (JP/NA/EU)
Machi Kuru Domino (JP)
Madden NFL 07 (NA/EU)
Marvel: Ultimate Alliance (NA/EU)
Monster 4x4 World Circuit (NA/EU)
Necro-Nesia (JP)
Need for Speed: Carbon (NA/EU)
Open Season (NA/EU)
Rampage: Total Destruction (NA/EU)
Rayman Raving Rabbids (NA/EU)
Red Steel (NA/EU)
SpongeBob SquarePants: Creature from the Krusty Krab (NA/EU)
Super Fruit Fall (EU)
Super Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (NA/JP/EU)
Super Swing Golf (JP)
Tamagotchi: Party On!/Tamagotchi's Sparkling President (JP)
Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam (NA/EU)
Trauma Center: Second Opinion (NA/JP)
WarioWare: Smooth Moves (JP)
Wii Play (JP EU)
Wii Sports (NA/JP/EU)
Wing Island (JP)

And let's say this is the Wii U release list of what we know...

Code:
Super Mario Bros. U
Nintendo Land
Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge
Assassin's Creed III
ZombiU
Rayman Origins
Rabbids Land
The Avengers: Battle for Earth
Just Dance 4
Your Shape 2013
Mass Effect 3
FIFA 2013
Madden 2013
Batman AC Armored Edition
Darksiders II
Sonic & Sega All Star Racing Transformed
NBA 2K 13
Scribblenauts Unlimited
Tank! Tank! Tank!
Tekken Tag Tournament 2

So yeah.

I mean, at this point I care less about the games and more about hoping Nintendo blows the roof off the place because Spieler Eins' gimmick has gotten boring.
Badum psssh

Well, my money is in my Gamestop account waiting for Nintendo to announce the price and date. I'm still not sure which color i'll end up getting. The black version looks better, but I don't like that it seems to have the piano black-style finish that the fat PS3's had. I hated how that thing attracted finger prints and dust.

For me is easy as I see like:

Pikmin and Zombie U are cool. I'd normally be able to accept those two and move on, but E3 didn't leave me with much confidence for the console's future.

Not so excited about more Zelda, Smash or 3D Mario. We've seen them a thousand times already and they kick ass. They are just predictable. Also, Brawl was disappointing if you like playing a good fighters(regardless of whether or not it is "traditional").
mario, zelda, smash brothers and donkey kong will happen. concrete enough?
Do you work for Nintendo? Are you trying to be snarky?
I think Nintendo is changing in that regard. The introduction of their Nintendo Direct concept, where they try to establish a faster and more "direct" connetion to their fans is an idication. Much like they've done with the 3DS.

No need to worry.
I wouldn't say I'm worried. I'm more bored than worried at this point. I just started PC gaming more now that I have a laptop capable of putting out visuals that rival or surpass current gen stuff and the HD consoles are still putting out great games. My Wii just sits there collecting dust since I rarely have any reason to turn it on due to it's closed online nature. Maybe dedicated game machines are just becoming boring to me...
once again, to sum it up:

they can and should show more.

anyone disagrees?
No disagreements here. It'd only be worth it if their hidden stuff actually interests me. I don't want more Nintendo Land surprises.
I mean, at this point I care less about the games and more about hoping Nintendo blows the roof off the place because Spieler Eins' gimmick has gotten boring.
The way you phrase this makes it sound like his cynicism is warranted even if it gets on your nerves. Is that the case?

I can already see Warner giving the excuse "But this is the ARMORED EDITION, so it's ok to sell at 60$!".

Precisely. And ME3 comes with the DLC, so that will be EA's excuse. And when people are pissed and don't want to spend $60 for year old games, both will decide there is no core audience on the Wii U.
