Specifically, as you note here, many people chide Nintendo systems for not having games they happen to personally be interested in. They are, as you say, Nintendo systems for Nintendo franchises. However, when these Nintendo systems finally do get games people are interested in, they become upset at that, as well. It doesn't seem like Nintendo can win here, for you.

You'll see this quite a few people saying this whenever Nintendo gets a more 'mature' (hardcore, whatever) title, which is made obvious in this thread. Nintendo can't ever win in this case, for these people, heh.

Out of curiosity, how many games of this nature would you need to see before you find the system appealing?

While I've just gotten finished defending those upset about the platform choice because they don't want to have to buy a system they otherwise have no interest in, I do think there is some reason on the other side.

Your last sentence is probably the most truthful one that will go ignored. I think it's pretty obvious by Nintendo courting Platinum games with Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2, publishing Ninja Gaiden 3 Razor's Edge and making sure Blops 2 and AC3 are all coming out on the Wii U that Nintendo is definitely aggressively going after the core audience again.

The salt in here is amazing. Some of you fucks would rather the game stay dead than appear on a "rival" platform. It's sad, really, being so sentimentally attached to a machine you see this "betrayal" as some sort of an insult.

Betrayal is a serious matter in Japan, hadn't you heard?

Platinum just shot themselves in the foot.

I don't know how much the rest of you know about Japanese culture (I'm an expert), but honor and shame are huge parts of it. It's not like it is in America where you can become successful by being an asshole. If you screw someone over in Japan, you bring shame to yourself, and the only way to get rid of that shame is repentance.

What this means is the japanese public, after hearing about this, is not going to want to purchase Bayonetta 2 for the Wii U, nor will they purchase any of Platinum's games. This is HUGE. You can laugh all you want, but Platinum has alienated an entire market with this move.

Platinum, publicly apologize and make Bayonetta 2 multiplatform or you can kiss your business goodbye.

cool reference

I actually see a lot more claims of salt than actual salt. I think most are happy the franchise isn't dead. Better to have something than nothing.

Oh god, I know this game probably won't have "that weird shooting level" because Kamiya's not directing it, but what if it does, and WHAT IF IT'S STAR FOX

Major props to Nintendo for bringing back the best action game of this generation. Truly awesome!

And this is coming from someone who will not be buying a WiiU. But give credit where it's due.

Guys, can't we just break out the champagne, celebrate and rejoice as Bayonetta fans? I mean this is a great fucking day.

It seems console allegiances are more important than actually getting a sequel to Bayonetta. Honestly I didn't really like the first one, mainly because of the visual design, but I reckon the things it did, gameplay wise and that it had the balls to be different so I am happy that Platinum is getting another shot at Bayonetta.

And i'm usually not one to enjoy Schadenfreude, but this thread is just hilarious.

It was just a comparison, that's all. Exclusives and next to non existent now days.

Yes, but my initial point still stands. Don't hold your breath on it happening again even if it's possible. The franchise was dead up until Nintendo decided to revive it. I doubt Sega will bother to fund the game on another platform with the situation they're in currently.

like every platinum game... it'll bomb.

I'll be here for an eventual release on ps4 and the new xbox.

If they won't release it on those consoles... meh. I liked the first one, but it's not like I won't survive if I don't get to play it.

I don't view it as a rival platform. I view it as a platform I don't own and don't plan to own based on the current lineup of games. People who loved Bayonetta wanted and expected (for a while, anyway) a sequel on PS3 and 360. It's great that it exists at all, but it's bittersweet.

Here's how to approach it.

If you don't want to buy a Wii U...then act like this game doesn't exist..

Kinda like it would be had Nintendo hadn't done anything.

There.

Nothing changes.

But seriously some of you need to stop being so dramatic.

it's just videogames, man.

There are a ton of games to play on the systems you like/own.

Relax.

If you think about it, freaking PLATINUM GAMES got a feature spot in a press conference, with EA only showing up in a sizzle reel.

Platinum.

This should be a good indicator of how much Nintendo is going to back this.

Of course, they want to squeeze as much marketing out of this as they can. Major EA games are going to sell anyway.

correct about everything
in a perfect world nintendo would have paid for shenmue III.

actually, in a perfect world the series would be finished already, and we all would be empty husks of men with nothing to look forward to in life, ready for the sweet release of death.

I'm a broke motherfucker though :(

I need to scrape some money together for a WiiU, I skipped the Wii but I've been without a Nintendo console for far too long.

Bayonetta 2 was real. SEGA stopped giving a shit, like they did with a lot of things, including Max Anarchy. Bayonetta 2 was dead, and I have no reason to disbelieve the people who told me this.

It would appear, as others have stated, Nintendo went shopping for IPs. Bayonetta 2 probably had X% of production complete, and with SEGA disinterested in finishing it felt they could pick it up for an affordable price in order to expand their Wii U portfolio into an area they pretty evidentially lack in.

In addition to this, Nintendo is likely cultivating a relationship with Platinum Games. The company's two next games are exclusive to Nintendo platforms. They're published and funded by Nintendo. Nintendo obviously sees the talent and potential at the studio, and where the studio can expand the company's portfolio. Two games, especially these two, is a nice start. If they succeed, I can guarantee we'll see further collaboration. If they bomb, then Nintendo will probably look elsewhere.

And if they bomb, Nintendo's licensing of Bayonetta 2 may be limited, and I wouldn't totally rule out the possibility of a port to another system. But that's an if, and there are no guarantees.

As it stands, fact of the matter is if Nintendo didn't step in and pick up the Bayonetta 2 project nobody, nowhere would be getting it. Nobody wanted it. It was scrapped. Bayonetta 2 was dead. As a huge fan of the original, the way I look at it having the game is better than not, and I'm stoked Nintendo stepped in to salvage the project. It means I, a huge Bayonetta fan, get to play a sequel I otherwise would not.

Bitching about this collaboration that necessitates the entire game's existence seems so damn silly. We've all got our platform(s) of choice, but the simple fact of the matter is Bayonetta 2, as it was, was not going to appear anywhere else. If you don't like it, write SEGA some angry mail or something. Whining about it in a thread dedicated to the game's revival at the hands of an unlikely company is so petty and silly.

I agree with everything you said

But if Nintendo is publishing there is about 1% chance it will go to another console, see Goldeneye 007, they wouldnt even let 360 get it as a XBLA game. Kinda like how Mass Effect 1 is only on Xbox 360

People said WiiU had no exclusives now they get one and they complain haha

Selling a million is a bomb? Isn't that about what Bayonetta sold?

I know that for insanely bloated megablockbuster games a million is a bomb, but I doubt Bayonetta approached that.

I will corroborate that people very close to the project said it was dead. It was old news early on this year, but Sega had no intentions of funding its development to completion after it became clear that it would be a large money sink of a project.

That it came alive today was a huge surprise for me, and might mean the deal was extremely recent, but I am still absolutely overjoyed it exists now where, just six months ago, I was 100% sure it didn't.

I highly doubt it'll get the same advertising as DQ9, Ninty was really piling behind that, even got a TV ad. But honestly anything is better than what Bayo 1 got.

Bayo 1 had a lot of advertisement as far as I saw. There's actually a commercial running now that uses the same song that was in the Bayo 1 commercial, and every time I saw it, I thought, "Was Bayo 2 stealthily announced?" Lol.

I honestly don't remember the Dragon Quest 9 ad, though.

I can't believe they're doing this. Looks like they know what they need to do to get me interested. I'm there day one now, even after getting burned by the 3DS.

Why are people here so confused about the exclusivity of Bayo2?

Nintendo is publishing it world wide. This means, ONLY Nintendo is getting the game.
If there will ever be something like a "Bayonetta 2 - Ultimate Ass Wiggling Edition" which includes all the DLC and new levels, moves and a side-story, then that MAY be coming to other consoles, if Nintendo isn't fast enough to publish that too. And this too is only happening if that's even possible given we don't know what kind of publishing contract Nintendo has made with Sega and Platinum.
They might be publishing this game only in the vanilla version. They may also have the publishing rights for every possible updated rerelease. We don't know.

For now, just deal with the fact that Bayo2 will NOT come out on Xbox 360/720 or PS3/4. You have no other choice anyway.

Perfect Dark was rereleased as an XBLA game, is that any different?
