You didn't answer my question though. Why does it's cancelled status make a difference?

Why does something that happened between two unrelated companies and games (MS and Team Ninja/NG) stand as more of a reference or precedent than the history of exclusives Nintendo themselves have published in the past?

Your reaching here. And I'm sure a lot of us understand that folks may have wanted things to happen a different way, but lets not push it bro... There's a hell of a lot more reason to think this will go the way that DQ9, MH3, and others went than there is to think that it will happen like that one in a million time that a game published by a platform owner was eventually ported out.

This is as ridiculous as insisting the PS4 will cost $699 at launch, and when someone points to the history of console launch prices as reason to believe that wont happen; you guys prop up the freaking 3DO as reasoning that its tooooootally likely to happen.... "That one time at band camp" doesnt count as a standard, nor does it make that isolated time a trend or standard.

Is it Jeanne that will lead this game? Don't recognize the staff weapon being used.

I think Bayonetta will lead.

Wow at the meltdowns in here. Nintendo actually resurrects a game GAF wants to play, and this is the result?

More proof that people don't hate Nintendo systems because "lol no games", they just hate Nintendo period.

The first Bayonetta did well for what it was, a hardcore style-brawler with lots of japanese craziness.

That said, Bayonetta 2 is obviously not a system seller. The people here on GAF now interested in WiiU because of it are a tiny minority.
Yeah, I mean, if we're talking about this in terms of "blockbuster major system selling exclusives", this is not it. In NPD LTD terms it's near the very bottom of this genre.

If we're talking in terms of "How to make your console appeal more to EatChildren and Nirolak", you're doing significantly better.

It does show interest in picking up titles that appeal to niches however, which is encouraging.

I hope people are getting banned for all this port begging

Page back. You should notice an impact.

I wonder if Nintendo could be moving in to eventually buy Platinum.

That would obviously be an amazing win for Nintendo to have one of the best Japanese third-party studios making a variety of high quality games for it (both cartoony and mature IPs). Unfortunately,I doubt Platinum Games wants to be stuck with one console manufacturer even though it has clearly shown Nintendo platforms some love on both Wii and DS and now even more on Wii U.

Iwata has said they no longer like to buy studios because the talent can simply leave. It's probably just better to work with them and keep them happy.

I imagine what happened with Retro (conflict of corporate culture leading to people publicly leaving the studio) burned them a bit.

They did buy Monolith after that, though.

I'm indifferent to Bayonetta overall, it was a fun romp, but i wasn't super attached to the character, and i'm burnt out on Mad world after completing both stories and mad survival, just waiting for Revengeance and i'll be good for the rest of this gen..honestly, Platinum games is not making money off its hardcore fanbase, i'm not mad, good for them if they actually go somewhere that gets them a profit in some way. I cannot follow them, i have no desire whatsoever to own a wiiu.

your tone is amusing, as much as you perceive salt, what you're exuding is not any better.

Perceived salt? That's laughable as well as your indifference Bayonetta

I doubt it after what happened with Retro. After Prime all their talent left. No point in buying studios when they can just do stuff like this instead.

If all their talent left after Prime who made DKCR? Some very talented temps?

I'm not reaching, I'm not suggesting otherwise, I just wanted to see if he could justify his position with any logical argument. I don't think it's ever going multiplatform.

Yes, for now. This "for now" may extend to "forever".
As I said, we don't know if it's possible that later rereleases of the game may come out on other, non-Nintendo systems. We would have to know what kind of publishing deal Nintendo has made with Sega and/or Platinum Games.

It shows me Nintendo are willing to scoop up a few games other than Mario/zelda to sell the console at the start but I won't be biting until I see continued support much further into the future. The Wii pretty much came to a stop at one point.

Do we have any idea of a release date? The teaser trailer seems like it was quite rushed. (considering that it's almost 1:1 the trailer to bayonetta 1)

sorry for you but this game is publishing with sega, its not 100 % nintendo

partnership with Sega yon can't read this ?

I can't read shit apparently cause I haven't READ ANYTHING that says Nintendo and Sega are CO-publishing.

Joystiq/

Forbes/

Gamespot

I don't see anywhere in these stories that says Sega is co-publishing. No where.

You assume sega is co-publishing cause you saw a sega logo in the teaser.

Nintendo has done this before: publishing games that it didn't hold the IP.

Ninja Gaiden 3 is an exemple, Final Fantasy IV, V, VI advance for GBA is also valid.

Stop lying to yourself.

It's possible to hire people :3

In any case, sales wise DKCR >>> Prime anyways (also quality wise) so I think Nintendo probably would say buying Retro worked out for them.

I mean hell, a few years ago they bought Monolith Soft despite them not making games that sell well, to say the least.

Oh...and did anyone else notice how awesome the game logo will look on the Wii U box??

waht no!

i want the gamepad screen show me boob-, and ass-shots all the time to distract me!

This might be a situation like Fatal Frame where Nintendo publishes games where another company owns the IP and Nintendo eventually takes co-ownership of the IP.

No Nintendo hate, lots of people just aren't interested in their games (different tastes), and on top of that fail to see why they would buy an already obsolete new platform in 2012. I have a current gen console... I got it in 2007! Why would I buy a WiiU?

Unless you like Ninty games, the real juice is next-gen, Xbox 720 / PS4.

As for the game, just disappointed it isn't coming to other consoles. But at least it exists, I don't feel any "rage" or "entitlement" to it.

I just remembered that this console is region-locked, because Nintendo is stuck in the 2005 past or something.

ugh, this is going to be a tough call. I need a Wii U either way, but now I might have to jump on the Japanese launch.

talk about anti-consumer BS

Except Prime is better than DKCR so no.

Looking at this broadly -- adding Monster Hunter in to the mix, for example -- it does appear Nintendo has a legitimate window to pick up games, particularly Japanese games, which can't reasonably make the leap to HD+ budgets, or whatever we want to call PS4/720 budgets, but are nonetheless not handheld games, and are "core" focused titles.

I'm not sure how large that swathe of titles is, but it exists, and Nintendo may be able to fit in to that space. As for major western developers, I feel their only real hope is to get multiplatform versions of the big games, and even that may be a stretch.

WHy would you buy a Wii U?

To play Bayonetta 2. Unless you're saying Bayonetta 2 will be obsolete. Which is just weird.

I mean, I can't play Bayonetta 2 on an any other platform, so that's why I would buy a Wii U. To play games. On that platform. That I can't find anywhere else.

Like Bayonetta 2.

I don't know man, Nintendo's publishing the game after the thing was about to be cancelled. They have this one on lock, I think.

Anyhow, for someone who both loved the original Bayo and planned to get Wii U anyway like myself...this is just even more good news.

Selling a million is a bomb? Isn't that about what Bayonetta sold?

I know that for insanely bloated megablockbuster games a million is a bomb, but I doubt Bayonetta approached that.

the first bayonetta sold one million?

You sure? If true it seems odd Sega would let go of one of their best selling IP's at the moment. And they know how badly they need sales.

Lacking interest does not mean hatred. I'm not sure the reactions are surprising when one user base is dying to play some new Bayonetta and then it goes to a completely different user base.

Bayonetta apparently wasn't considered enough of a success on two systems, so I'm not sure how this is going to fare on a single console with a fraction of the original supporters on board. Platinum needs to succeed somewhere, though.

I would be perfectly happy with Platinum staying exclusive to Nintendo if the opportunity presented itself. If Nintendo could collaborate with them with some of their old IPs (Star Fox, as most have mentioned) it would be a match made in heaven. On top of that, I'd KILL for a perfect Wii U port of the original Bayonetta.

Better yet, just fucking port all of their games like Vanquish, Anarchy Reigns, Metal Gear Rising, etc. to Wii U so we can have a perfect library of Platinum games on one, clean system.

YES.

Sega still owns the license. Nintendo is obviously paying them to release this.
