Bit of mild confusion on chap 4 extra end
just the death, I mean, with the rubble and whatnot, where did that come from?

I finally wrapped up everything, really good game. As much jank as you'd expect from a spruce up of a 1996 indie title, but they really nailed a proper horror experience for my tastes and I'd really like to see more games like this which just omit combat altogether. My only real complaints being how rare the HP meter was actually put to work and Chap 5 (which is the only modern made one, I think?) really stood heads and tails above 1-4, it really makes me want that full blown Corpse Party 2 that was announced.

But yeah, bleak as hell, really whittled at your soul, it was all very appealing to me since I like the horror genre but all you get nowadays is cheap jump scares and murder porn.

Really hope we get some more, will sell a couple friends on it to help the cause although Xseed seems sadly very allergic to sequels! I'm still lamenting Half Min Hero 2.

I'd love you to tell me that there is a way to play this game using analog stick..
Playing it using d-pad on first Psp model (1000) is an actual pain in the ass.

Finished chapter 1, played some of chap 2, and I both like and hate this game. It has a really nice atmosphere and is surprisingly disturbing at times... and the story is quite interesting as well, which keeps me going.

At the same time, I have a number of problems with this game (some which I can still accept), but the biggest one for me is the frustrating game design. Instant-deaths that appear out of nowhere, which leads to me dying, forcing me to watch a boring, overly long death sequence everytime that can't be skipped.
Or another example towards the end of chapter 1, I got really pissed off in a particular room where I died several times because I had no idea what to do... just a lot of trial-and-error followed by a lengthy death sequence everytime until I gave up and checked an faq (and still had problems because of the clunky controls). I dunno, maybe I'm not as forgiving as others.
Hopefully, the game has less of these 'action' sequences going forward, because I still intend to keep playing.

I have very similar feelings. The ghost dodging in Chapter 2 is just so awful. You can speed things up a little by quitting the game with the Home button, then restarting and reloading, but obviously it's still extremely frustrating. I'm not sure whether I'll bother continuing the game, which was otherwise enjoyable.

Whaaaaat? I can't imagine chapter 2 ghosts being any problem :/. Way more easy than chapter 1 one with
breaking floor and ghost in infirmary
.

Yeah, they should let you skip the death sequences, but none of those portions of the game were even remotely difficult.

My only real complaint in the end is, as mentioned above, the lack of skipping features and from a design standpoint I wish they would have done more with the HP meter, it's woefully underused and theres a lot of interesting things that could be done with it.

Great game, though. Still hope we get Book of Shadows and hopefully we aren't stuck with another franchise Xseed flakes out on.

I didn't die once on that Chapter 1 part. You can survive multiple hits from that ghost. The problem with the Chapter 2 ghosts is that they are all instant kill and there are a lot of times they take you by surprise.

For instance,
if you use up the power crystal the first time you see the ghost boy, you will be auto-killed after the scene in the entryway, after you throw the 2nd switch one of the ghosts appears in the room with you on a narrow corridor, later a 2nd ghost appears in the main area without warning making it easy for you to get surprise killed after dodging the first ghost and thinking you are safe
. There is also an issue that there seems to be some randomness in the starting placement of the ghosts. Once when I came down the west stairs, both ghosts were waiting for me. Dodging one ghost in an enclosed space is pretty easy, but dodging two is nearly impossible.

Just started playing this over the past few days. It's super creepy and I like a lot about it, but right now I'm dealing with the chapter 2 frustrations mentioned above. It's frustrating because not only is it unclear what I need to do to proceed, but because failure means I have to skip through the same heaps of texts again and again.
First I ran into the Ghost kid when he unexpectedly reappeared in a hallway. After reloading, I tried to do some exploring first, but then I couldn't enter the room with the shoes where the chick runs off to, the only thing I could do is push the levers which inevitably kills us both off. I looked up a guide and it seems I have to do some very specific things early in the chapter to be able to survive later on. EDIT - tried again and the ghost boy gets me not matter what when I leave the shoe room.
I'm gonna give it another shot, hopefully I do things correctly this time and get over this annoying hump.

I got stuck there too, you just have to do one thing.
Go out of the shoe room, see the ghost, but then go back into the shoe room. You'll then be able to actually get past him.

On the positive side, I can say that once you make it past Chapter 2, the game never gets that annoying again. I'd recommend sticking with it to the end.

I actually just got past that part. Turns out I needed to do what Volcynika said. Yay. I'm relieved to hear that's not a regular occurrence.

Yeah, I would call it an adventure game. It's mostly focused on story and exploration, and there's no combat. Definitely give it a shot if you like horror, I'm a couple hours into chapter 3 and loving it.

This game can suck my dick. I'm somehow stuck in a save where I can only reach the wrong ending. Why does this don't have a skip dialog option? I'm stuck in chapter 1 and I have to play the whole thing over again to get to the real ending because i didn't read a newspaper somewhere. First I thought I was doing something wrong after the spirit chased me, but I just get the wrong ending no matter what I do.

I won't play this game again and I can't say I'll miss the long, unskippable dialogues about butts and and the ghost dodging sections. I love the premise, but the execution is so shit. I usually have great patience with shitty gameplay if the story is interesting, but this is just too much.

just started chp 1 , really is a good game so far, nice music too, how long is it roughly?

cant belive i never played this earlier :(

lmao at seiko tho " keep dat ass parked on dat bed you got it?" weird girl

So I found a PSN card I had gotten as a gift a while back and decided to buy this blind as I heard its closer to something like 999 than a JRPG.

What am I in for?

yahoo! i gutcho!:-D

love this game, but on ep5 i got my first bad ending for that episode and i dont get it
the one with ayumi stabbing naomi and satoshi being possed, then at the very end she was puzzled for some reason

was it because i didnt see the other bad endings i dont understand?

An atmospheric and emotional horror adventure game with more expressive characters than you'll see in most modern games.

Also, make lots of save points. It's easy to get stuck with no way to advance.

So I just beat it and was hoping someone can calrify the games ending for me.

The girl in the red dress died with her mom in the 50s, but she killed those 3 kids in the 70 how the hell was she actually there? Also how did she have the other guy working for her?

She's a malevolent ghost with powers.
That's probably the closest thing to an explanation you'll get unless it's expanded on in Book of Shadows and/or Corpse Party 2.

Any chance of a surprise October release?

Wasn't the first Corpse Party released as soon as it was confirmed localized?

Glad this thread was bumped. I had forgotten all about this game. About time I pick this up.

I like it so far. I wouldn't say it's really scary, but it is rather dark. It does a good job evoking the feeling of a Japanese horror film.

Didn't know BoS wasn't considered canon. Makes it less of a big deal to me.

Example the first bookshelf multiple times for kicks.

Its October! If you haven't tried this game yet its a great month to do it. I got it just to see what the hell it was and didn't think I could get freaked out by little 16-bit looking stuff but it does a pretty good job!
