Wii U Thread - Now in HD!

Well I hope there's some kind of informative Nintendo event before the Wii U's release. It seems to ALMOST fit their ND schedule and at the same time can be used to show more games!

Nintendo Directs are always bi-monthly (next one should be in Oct) and take place sometime in the 20s

I expect the next one to be Oct 22-29

That's what I also hope will happen.

P.S this is completely off topic but does anyone have the link to the old NeoGAF in 1999+ days? I want to see the topics lol

You could try the wayback machine if their no longer up. Also, in interviews it seems the Wii Transfer isn't going to make launch so we might not hear much on that until after launch.

I know I've expected the next ND to be in October. It would be a good time to have as narrow a window as possible while allowing them to hide whatever it is their hiding as long as possible till launch.

Nintendo doesn't keep a strict schedule for Directs. We had two in June, one in August, 1.5 in September. Expect more than one yet before Wii U launch.

It looks barren this year, only 4 notable titles:

Paper Mario, Sonic and Sega All-Stars Racing, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Epic Mickey Power of Illusion, Skylanders.

Early next year is already better, maybe not in quantity but definitely quality:

Luigis Mansion 2, Castlevania Lords of Shadow Mirror of Fate, Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, Fire Emblem Awakening, and most likely Animal Crossing.

Professor Layton isn't a notable title?

Must be a Europe thing;

Edit; Beet.

I need a wallpaper of the black version of this box. It must be my favorite box of a product if a long time since Apple boxes

also for those who opened a Wii box on launch day years ago is the blue of the cardboard inside this this same blue that is outside now?

I dunno, I think I like the White box more, bias aside. I think White looks better with sky blue :3

And yeah, It's a fantastic box design imo. Really nice.

It is quite a nice box.

The bi-monthly NDs are on schedule, at least in Japan. Lucky Japan. :'(

Is it really true that NoA only has a Nintendo Direct every 4 months? I never noticed that but it may be true lol

Baby blue and black really don't mesh well together imo. White box is better for that. Both look nice though and are very eye-catching. Fantastic design

My aunt & uncle run a Mom & Pop store, "The Gamecube Hut", and sold 80k WiiU within minutes of opening.
Looking at that nice and clean design of the basic set box makes me feel better about my white wii u preorder... now if only I could get that extra 24GB of storage, though. :\

was DQX Wii U version shown online? because I am listening to 8-4 and they were disappointed of what the improvements were but never seen this news on NeoGAF

link pls?

Thanks, there was another one when NeoGAF wasn't NeoGAF yet, it was another site and it was during 1999 - 2004.

Yeah, but I'm pretty sure that is from the pre "NeoGaf" branding days. Its from the www.gaming-age.com site's server, that's for sure.

Here's is the archive of that page from the WayBack Machine... unfortunately, many of those links go to a login page (dead end):

I think I'll be fine with 8 gigs until next year when I pick up an HDD. I have an extra 16gb stick around if need be
Yeah, but I'm anticipating that the Wii U OS will organize the internal and expanded storage into separate "buckets". It would be nice to keep all your downloaded apps and utilities on the main board bucket, while your games are all on a huge external drive.

I forgot that one, I was thinking the DQX one!

October ND confirmed, 3DS focus w/maybe a little more WU.

Haha. I remember it because it was early in the morning and I refused to get up just for more 3DS info.

No movie playback, I'm afraid. But surely you must have a crapton of devices around the house that can already...
I was actually upset about Wii U not playing blue rays. I have a PS3 for that, but will be moving it into my son's room at launch. But I realized that I rarely watch blu ray anymore; 95% of what I watch now I stream...so no worries!

Yeah it was but I'm really surprised that people were expecting any more from square. I mean, do people remember final fantasy 11 on the xbox 360? It was just an upressed version of the ps2 game. And final fantasy normally always makes graphics a higher priority than the Dragon Quest series

Thanks, sucks that I don't have permission to access the page (I need to log in lol).

On topic: I pre ordered the Deluxe Wii U, I'm planning to buy a 500GB Seagate External Hard Drive next year for it.

Holy crap! Today's real megaton is that more than two people can have the same first name.
I've just realised that the Black Wii U looks eerily similar to my black Western Digital "MyBook" 1TB external Hard Drive - which I'll be using it with.

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
Japanese devs tend not to have much at launch actually, they've historically been loaded with cheap Puzzle and Board games too. For previous major consoles within the first month.

Good post. What really stands out is Tecmo Koei is fully on board- half the 3rd party titles we know about are from them.

I imagine we'll still see a few more announcements.

No way on earth it was serious, but i can't wait until a troll tries that one.
"Why waste $50 on the deluxe, save that money to buy a much higher quality Monster HDMI cable!"
The system will be RELEASED by then, why would we need a Nintendo Direct to talk about features we can actually USE instead?
If you were a pessimist you could say that the features might not make it to launch.

Get a 32GB card for like $10-20? Well it isn't be a UHS one for that price but I imagine they've tested with slower cards anyway.

Well the Wii one looked pretty choppy in heavily populated areas (or maybe really bad with lag?) so just an upres plus beefier hardware should be nice if it at least cleans the framerate up. And it has nicer shadows apparently!

Which is why I expect another Nintendo Direct in a couple weeks. We just got Nintendo TVii out of nowhere. Wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo unveils some more surprises in regards to Nintendo Network and how you find your friends online to play games.

What happens when you press the home button on the gamepad.

I dont think I know this yet lol

At the GS Expo last month I pressed the home button and nothing happened. There was a Scribblenauts station left unattended so I figured I'd try pressing all the extra buttons like the TV and home button, even held them down to see if anything special happened (nope).

Also I checked the back and if you guys are wanting shots of the sticker on the back (I'm assuming?) it's covered by the tethering harness.

Awww oh well guess we find out launch.

We've had a Direct every other month for a year. A late-October Direct is extremely likely.

Special 1st Anniversary Nintendo Direct w/ extra Wii U goodness confirmed? :O
