.hack, interestingly, is where I first became tired of Kajiura.

Listen to Hitomi no Kakera, the OP of Madlax, and Silly-Go-Round, the OP of .hack//roots, and you may realise that their chord structure is exactly the same. They're even in the same key, and sung by the same singer! So lazy.

Yes I think this is lazier than Kanno's plagiarism

You know what they say, if you steal from one source it's plagiarism, if you steal from many it's research. So when you steal from yourself...

Also, the transition from this:

to this:

was nice.

You know, I think the only "happy" story was maybe the first one. Although I can't realyl remember the early episodes. lol

Still, for a jokey fourth-wall breaking costume drama about famous poets and their lives, this turned out to a pleasant surprise. I had no idea what I'd get out of this, but at the very least, my weeaboo powers have increased and I have some appreciation for Japanese history and poetry. Bonus points for not being as tedious as Folktales From Japan anyway.

I guess the biggest thing for me was the realization that being a woman 500 years ago is suffering, whether you are in England or in Japan. I'm not sure why I expected oppression to be different though. Maybe it's just easier to assume that only in the bubble of European history, women were treated like crap and that everywhere else, it was a utopian paradise. I think if I'm going to be ignorant, I should be much more cynical about it. lol

I dunno, they just look the same to me, I don't know if they are made by the same artist or what, but they resemble each other so much, specially the hands. At least, with the others, I could see the differences, I don't know.

Even Suzumiya had different artstyle on it's "first" season and the new episodes, it felt... bad actually.

And the Key animes at least had good drama/plot IMO. Kanon 2002 was ok, IMO. IF they could remake Air too, I agree it looks outdated.

I think Hyouka has much better plotlines than KEY anime.

Such a fun ending to a fun show. I really liked that they went out of the way to wrap everything up making sure to cover all the characters in this neat little cast.
Madoka in space had me laughing pretty good because she's so well-acclimated to being the equivalent of basically the Space Pope now, and to hear her almost crude manner of delivery with regards of who she spoke to made me laugh.

Hopefully we'll see able to see more in the future, whether it be another season or in OVAs, because I really liked the main girls a ton, the supporting cast grew on me by the end, and on an audio/visual level this show was superb, and really delivered despite a few small knicks here and there. Yes, I think we can all agree the pacing was pretty bad due to the way they separated the elements of the show, and think there are much more efficient ways to go about it. I do think though with what little they showed as to where the series could go can be really interesting if they choose or are able to continue it.

I could continue to go on for a bit about what went wrong, or where they should've done things better (of which yes, from a critical standpoint there's a hefty list), but honestly complaining about shit on the internet is just not fun, and not a good use of my time when I just watch shows to have fun. Sometimes it's more enjoyable (and this is definitely true for me) just to forget about it and not hold everything up to a golden standard and put it on a pedestal. Too much fun is lost approaching anything in life that way, and it honestly makes no sense to watch something you really just do not like at all (though comedy-watches like School Days are hilarious).

I really loved the use of color in this show, from the purples/reds/blues/greens of explosions, to the color profiles of each of the factions, to the use of colors to distinguish character. I really enjoyed the way they made use of the color as far as their stylistic decisions went. Another thing I greatly liked besides the colors and profiling design was simply just the clarity of the show. There is a lot of minimalism as far as a lot of the art went, and it was always crisp, sharp, vivid in color, and very clear. I greatly enjoed the art of the show due to this, and I found the cleanliness/sterile nature and attention to very clear line-composition (so the profiling designs and such) (as opposed to something very clear but more organic in portrayal, like Hyouka) visually appealing to me, and my tastes in art as I appreciate works with extreme attention to line-composition, clairty, and separation in pieces by Rothko. There's depth in simplicity, but only if you know how to look for it.

And dat music. DAT MUSIC. It was so good, for me only to be rivaled by E7AO. The variety in the OST was just super awesome, and I can't wait to buy the next OST. Hell, even Marble grew on me by the end. I really loved the use of the Ramseg Duet version of Try Unite! and found it to be totally effective the two times it was used. So good.

One thing I would be curious about for the future, or at least kind of a retrospective on it, is how the show would've turned out had it not been partially funded by the city of Kamogawa. I think we can all agree it got a little over-bearing at times, and though we can't know for sure, I would go as far as to argue that the more SoL episodes that detracted from the focused action so many were looking for could've been wholly avoided had they potentially not been forced to promote the town as a condition of getting money to make the show in the first place. Yes, this is total speculation, but I really would greatly anticipate a season where it wasn't mandatory for them to say the word Kamogawa 5 times and episode. It didn't really detract from the series as a whole for me, but I do think that for those the show lost, it would've delivered a tighter focus in more intresting places.

I came for a fun show, cute girls, and robots, and they delivered to my tastes fully and have given me a fun ride that I would totally go on again.

The fact that S2 was still stuck in Kamogawa kind of tells you how that relationship affected the show. :p

It just really struck me how much better it could've been if it weren't for them. I kinda just had an epiphany about it yesterday where I just got it and finally understood :/

I wanted more space, dammit!

One day, a KyoAni TV series discussion will happen where people rank Sora wo Miageru Shoujo no Hitomi ni Utsuru Sekai.

But that would require people to have actually watched it in the first place.

I liked the last episode. It was a good wrap-up and got around to everyone!

But man, it's like if in Pokemon Pikachu said the name of tourist towns of Japan instead of his nam. It just got to be a little much sometimes.

I was more surprised at how little Nissan anything was in it.

If anything watching K-On made me appreciate Lucky Star posthumously for actually making an effort to be funny and engaging on some level, even if it fell flat on its face urinating on itself more often than not.

The best intermission image yet. Hopefully they continue to have the soldiers ditch that ugly looking army as otherwise Im still alright most of the time with the visual direction.

Theres so many characters and locations that its awfully hard to keep track though the occasional diagrams help. I like Xin's squad especially Qiang Lei.

Favorite part was
Xin meeting up with Bi and everyone in the army being all shocked that they were so familiar, lol.

Character-design complaints aside, I really have to agree with you about the colour saturation - that show was quite a mess in that area. However, despite that I really enjoyed the overall visual direction because of how excessively symbolic the mise-en-scene was.

Well, there's good excessive symbolism and bad excessive symbolism, and Dusk Maiden was firmly planted in the latter camp. It was quite laughable at points.

According to google translate, this site claims that the Toei-Zagtoon collaboration Ladybug won't be premiering in France and Belgium until August 2013 and will have an accompanying 3D film directed by Thomas Astruc, who was apparently involved in Luc Besson's poorly-received film Wasabi. Can anyone corroborate this?

Given that there was a trailer for the series released earlier this month that featured 3+ minutes of footage, it would be surprising if it was still so early in production that it would be a year off from airing anywhere. Airing in Japan first and France later is logical given the need to translate the dialogue, but Toei's total lack of production updates outside of the trailer makes it impossible to discern when it's likely to air in Japan. Winter 2013 seems like a good candidate, as this is the time of the year that most cyclical children's series are rebooted.

a) It wasn't a trailer, it was a pilot.
b) It wasn't released, it was leaked. Notice how it even says "for internal use only".

A pilot? I'm not entirely sure what you mean, as it looked like a fairly standard trailer to me.

It was much more watchable than the first 11 episodes of Hyouka sadly.

No, no, no, and no. Endless Eight is far and away the worst shit KyoAni's done. It's a ridiculous and stupid ploy that got old after the second episode and wasted most of a season they've could have focused on different material. While Hyouka was bad at times, that was on a whole 'nother level of shit. They deserved every bit of flaming they got for that.

sadly I don't think we will.

Well, that is what it says, yeah... but one thing to add, both the movie and series are parallel works from the same project that has Mr. Astruc, the creator of the original concept, at the helm of it (and includes other planned things as well, like 'bande dessinées' penned by him). This was reported as such at the unveiling of the project made at MIPCOM 2010 (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1118025064).

About the premiere of the series and when will it be... don't take my word for granted but, from information I have seen, it could be that French TV channel TF1 (that announced a pre-purchase of the series at Annecy's Mifa 2012, and consequently is helping on its production) was aiming for a January-February first emission. Remember, this data is not confirmed...

Yeah, I'm genuinely looking forward to this series.

How can you be down on Hyouka's designs while longing for the days of KEYani?

I mean good god.
