Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

Quite like that, make the match last two rounds and set the objectives to the attacking team color instead of neutral.
Disable ordnance drops, place fixed weapon spawns and vehicle bays at bases, tweak last stand options ..

Can't wait to see what custom options do we have.

DOMVASION 2.0

P.S: Add mutherfacking mechs and you're pretty much done!

I WANT TO PLAY MECHALLA NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Think Dominion would be playable on Valhalla?
Something like this?:

Yeah but with the dot at the bottom on the middle hill where the spartan laser is.

I WANT TO PLAY MECHALLA NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ME TOO +10

Plus you could take invasion's loadout system a step fordward and introduce a real class based system for 4, with the whole mod/support upgrades you could have real specialized loadouts like operator (vehicle guy), grenadier (resupply, sticky detonator starts), marksman (dmr, stability), stealthy guy...

I'm picturing HBO Bluerunner's Ride of the Valkyries with one side in Mechs and the others launching an aerial assault on each base. Would definitely be cool.

*Bambi eyes* Would Frankie or David like to tell us if this is possible in a future update?

That invasion map looks like a lot of fun. I think this is where Bungie kinda dropped the ball with Reach.

Forge should have been utilized for user created content to bulk up the Invasion playlist. Instead, Team Slayer and BTB got inundated with crappy forge maps...

Edit: No offense to the authors of those maps, but I got really tired of seeing gray for entire play sessions.

We got Cragmire out of Forge, I say I'm quite happy about it!

Agreed, it took way too long to get forged Invasion maps up and running in Reach, and even then, there just wasn't enough.

I don't think they'd be at the bases. I'd say that one would be by the pelican, one by the wall, and maybe one by the waterfall.

The map is obviously quite elongated, so having two bases in the middle of the map (wall & pelican), there would be no other good place for a third base, as it would be unfair to the team who spawns on the other side of the map, unless spawning is dynamic, which it probably shouldn't be.

If it were the two bases, then a central base could be built in the center of the map (there's heaps of room near the wall, not so much near the pelican).

That was pretty much all the thought I put behind it.

Trust me in saying that the maps that got in are the best of them. You don't want any more. Invasion is an immensely difficult mode to forge for. There are so many things that need to be not just considered, but analyzed to the bone, just to get a basic layout to then forge, and with the issues Reach has with performance (frame rate drops, budgeting, objects in FoV which can lead to the lighting engine skipping, etc) it takes months to design, build, playtest and iterate upon an Invasion map. I have the utmost respect for the forgers who spend the time to work on them.

I really can't wait to find out more about that Mantis. Do we know anything about it aside from that it can stomp? I'm wondering how fast it is, how it moves (i.e can it jump, run, boost etc) if it'll have primary and secondary fire? Stuff like that. I just can't imagine seeing that thing in multiplayer. It just seems so different. I'm excited about it though. Just very very curious as well.

I think someone said it has two firing modes... Don't quote me on it though.

I understand how much time and effort went into the 4(?) we have in Matchmaking now, but it Bungie began looking for them a lot earlier on and at least considered actually doing Forge Invasion maps, instead of leaving it for 343i really late on into Reach's lifespan, we could have had a few more.

No MM worthy Invasion maps existed until a few months ago.

Indeed, although I also agree that Invasion had some structural issues that Forging made worse. Essentially, one side of the game is a team mass dying to complete an objective. Forge maps can make this worse by turkey-shoot layouts and open areas that just let people camp and kill as desperate attempts are made to get the objective to the drop point.

Invasion maps aren't great as BTB maps, which is part of the reason BTB suffered, but honestly I think Invasion maps really had to be solely invasion rather than campaign rips or double-duty BTB. Too many compromises in designs resulted in hobbling what I think was the best idea of a game mode in Halo.

Dominion looks to have some of the same aspects, so there's that at least. I'm not sure if Invasion could have been made viable without the lessons of Reach in the first place.

I was saying it more like, if Bungie hinted at the fact they would be willing to put forged Invasion maps into Matchmaking, there would be a lot more than just the ones we have now in there, I know I wouldn't work my ass off forging a huge Invasion map for it to be played a very small amount of times in Custom Games.

This - in my opinion, Boneyard is neither a good Invasion map, nor a good BTB map. I wish Bungie had just committed full force to Invasion and made it it's own thing and given it the attention it deserved, rather than shipping 2 maps for it that BTB shared, and making BTB suffer as a result.

3 of the 4 maps that got into MM had been in development for more than 9 months. Well before 343i asked for them.

I think that's part of the reason why we never saw Invasion before, despite being prototyped in Halo 2--it would have been too much of a drain from other parts of the multi experience. With their last Halo game, Bungie saw an opportunity, but was again constrained by dev time.

If we'd gotten two BTB and two Invasion I'd have been happier, but they would have also needed to add in more Forge maps quickly (which leads into the deficiencies in Forge, etc.)

What I think Reach taught me is how minor issues in one aspect can resolve into huge issues in other areas. Game design is hard.

Crazy talk now: What if when you beat the campaign you can choose to have the remixes play instead of the regular soundtrack? :O

Not likely happening of course.

Welp, look at those killcams in Infinity Slayer.
smh
I'm guessing they're in everything except the classic playlists.

Which, honestly, I welcome, because at least there's consistency that way. I am with Tashi that I'd prefer to be able to rotate around my corpse instead, but it's a design choice I don't mind overall.

People just skip them in every video I've seen, though.

Did they really have all the armor and weapons unlocked? Weapons I guess would be alright. Any confirmation/pics anywhere of Security?

Sorry that I'm late, but I just wanted to say this is super awesome.

Hopefully, Didact looks as cool.

Infinity slayer-Haven, great quality.

Awesome thanks! I was gonna request it as a gif form.

You know me.

I know you.

Thanks! Map looks great, interesting that Kill-Cams are now in Infinity Slayer... Not sure how I feel about that.

I was wondering this same thing. The view from the killcam would imply that the technical hurdle preventing that has been fixed.

Interesting. Note that the kill cams do not display the enemy's HUD elements, such as shields, ammunition, tracker, etc. This is probably so that kind of information doesn't have to be networked. Going into an FoV in theater requires that this information is either networked or determinable given what the saved film is compromised of (button states, etc).

Security is not returning.

Does the boltshot drain shields like a plasma pistol?

If it does, I don't see a reason to even use the plasma pistol.

After watching that haven gameplay and seeing that guy kill that guy with a charged up boltshot, it almost looked more deadly than a shotgun.

Who gives a shit about kill cams?

Instead of staring at your body for 5 seconds waiting for respawn you can a) watch your death again and learn from your mistakes or b)skip the kill cam and respawn immediately*

Really, I'm glad to have them... Do something more useful and bitch about CTF auto pickup and restricted carry

* does not apply to team skirmish
