already? Didn't this OT start like yesterday?

Anyway, I hope Ragnorock looks a lot better in person. That ground texture is still bothering me.

Replaying Halo 3 on Heroic, those damn beam rifles are worse than I remember.

The Beam Rifles in Halo 3 never really gave me a problem. I don't really think they are any less frequent than in Halo 2 (the only places I can recall of the top of my head are Sierra 117 woods and at the top of the Cartographer after the Scarab) but I think they were programmed to be less of an instant gib.

I will never understand how MLG is considered a community playlist when it's own community is shut out from contributing to it unless the one or two guys that get to decide the settings allow content in.

Still in favor of the company-neutral Hardcore playlist over an advertisment for a company that doesn't let it's community control their playlist and abandoned the game in their own circuit. Wish 343 would take the Capcom strategy, here.

I'm currently on mobile GAF, but could somebody please explain to what Hypertrooper was linking? Something about UNSC and signing up.

Can't find the post and the link.

Edit: Yeah, this thing above me. What's this about?

Also in the T&Cs it says your flight leaves from London and you need to travel to London on your own. Would be a bit mean to force mainland Europeans to travel to London to then fly back to mainland Europe.

I like this idea because it would give us more variety in the playlist. Team Hardcore in H2 was nice because it had a lot of the gametypes you had in MLG but it also had weird ones or gametypes that MLG had dropped. As much as I love MLG playing the same 11 gametypes over and over can get repetitive. It's even worse in Reach where 50% of the matches are Sanc.

I agree completely. Screw those guys at MLG having control, specially after they went as far as dropping Halo. 343i should open a feedback section on their forums and control the "Hardcore" playlist themselves, paying special attention to the feedback from respected people like Walshy for example.

If I were in control I'd just add a few people from the hardcore community to the Cartographers / consultants and get them working on grabbing maps for a hardcore playlist. Release the first version, get feedback / have them also collect gametypes, update it the next month, keep going this way until people are happy with it. Let it actually evolve so it's hardcore while still being Halo 4 and not Halo 2x4. Least voted for gametypes get dropped out of the list each month.

Finally caught up to the thread..

This map is just reinforcing my belief that the weakness of this game/engine from a visual standpoint are the ground textures.

This map has left me feeling disappointed and dare I say that I actually prefer the look of valhalla than ragnorok. Better greenery and possibly better ground textures :(

Ragnarok looks nice except for the terrain. I don't know how anyone could think splotchy terrain is anything but an eyesore. Especially when you're remaking a map known for its lush terrain.

Watched the vid.

Did someone forget to water the plants? What happened to all the grass?

I like the overall aesthetics of Ragnarok, but it's not perfect. The rocks and sky look fantastic, as do the basis for the most part. I have one huge nitpick: the fins on the bases. Why are they there? I think they look silly. The terrain is the worst thing about the look the of the map, and that's a big deal for me. I don't like the grass-desert combination. What made Valhalla so beautiful and atmospheric was the snow and lush grass. Playing it you got the sense the average temperature on that map was in the 50s, maybe 40s. A chilly, crisp day. This map gives off the opposite feeling: average of 80s - 90s and hot. I don't like it.

Am I crazy in thinking Valhalla looks better?

Just had a minor epiphany, mixed with déjà vu regarding deja view.
Halo Reach, Bungie announced Hemorrhage on Bungie Day 2010, then, soon after, they announced Hemorrhage was part of Forge World

343i just announced a Valhalla remake, and have mentioned forge information is coming soon....

Valhalla is a Forge Canvas.

^ Im glad Im not the only one who feels Ragnaroks visual aesthetics aren't really that great looking. I mean the mountains/rocks, bases etc look nice.. But the color palette, ground textures, skybox, and environment feel very...lifeless. It really feels like they took the tundra from tempest, sucked the life out of it and slapped it on Valhalla. Valhalla was a very beautiful map, in a lush green tundra environment.. this looks like some dry, dirt covered version. Also, the snow really helped with the atmosphere and feel of the map.. replace the drab ground with snow and I think it would help a ton. The light brown with splashes of green just isn't doing it for me at all. It just has the muted look of a Forge environment. Overall, visually, Ragnarok just looks like a missed opportunity. Its too bad.

Cool footage, the Mantis looks like its going to be a blast to use.
