Halo |OT9| One Final Effort Is All That Remains

So, we still have like only 2 off screen videos of Ragnarok, right?

You couldn't pay me enough to wear these bad boys:

Remove the 'Halo' from the tongue, replace it with something like the Didacts symbol, make the shoe strings orange and maybe.

:lol

That's a good sign, probably. I wonder if any other Bungie staff will be on the Sparkast.

Edit : Wait, Halocast? What's Halocast?

Halocast is a bad name for a podcast. :lol

Hmm, your right, maybe a re-imagination of sorts? Something that keeps the essence and feel of the pit, but accommodates H4's speed, sprint etc.

few notches bigger in size?

That's what I was thinking. Maybe have the sniper towers taller so people can't jetpack up there.

Ugh. Why do we have to accommodate maps for jetpack? Why not just remove it?

At this point, it looks to be the worst thing about Halo 4. Even worse than having a kill marker over the flag carrier's head.

Agreed. I haven't met a person I've played Halo with that "likes" jet-packs. I wonder how many in this thread genuinely enjoy Jet-packing in Halo: Reach on a game-to-game basis

funny, i got matched with 2 guys debating which they liked best, jet pack or camo. they both decided jet pack because it took more skill to flank. we then proceeded to play uncaged with everyone but me flying all over the fucking place and me raging.

Jet packs are amazing fun. How they impact matchmaking is a separate issue. They completely break maps, so I'd prefer them not to be in the game at all. Doesn't mean they're not fun to use, though.

I think it would've been really interesting to see if armor abilities were designed like this:

-You can still choose them in your loadout
-Everyone gets 1 full meter to start

Then there are 2 different ways you could go with this:

1)Instead of earning ordnance with your actions, you instead refill up your AA meter. A way to reward personal skill without throwing a bunch of power weapons into the mix.

2)Put "battery packs" around the map, like health packs in Reach.

In MLG I do.
I totally support it as a pick-up. Do we know if Halo 4's AAs can be made into pick-ups?

And a ton of people love using the jetpack, but that's not really the point to me. It destroys map design. Put the Farsight gun from Perfect Dark (I'm not Fyrewulff's alt, I swear) into Halo 4 and let kids one-shot people through walls, and it would be wildly popular. But it would break the game.

Edit : What Moonman said.

Less posting, more Borderlandsing.

Dear Frankie or anyone at 343

Please include a DLC hopper in the october playlist update (if there is one)

I am now on a grind to get 100% on reach before Halo 4 drops.

I really doubt the community would get Angry if you had a Title Updated DLC sack, one for 4v4 and one for 8v8 that was restricted to DLC only, featuring Slayer AND objectives.

Much love, respect, and achievement hunting angst...

In a way, though, it is 343's problem. Small arena style maps that promote fast and frenetic game play is one area where Halo has always excelled. And while not everyone is in to super competitive MLG, the core game play that makes MLG fun is universal across the board for everyone. I seriously don't understand the reasoning for taking out smaller maps, even with the addition of sprint being a base attribute. While sprint was limited in Reach, it was still there on small maps like reflection and never a problem.
It's 343's responsibility to design maps that work well with the sandbox they've created, including their design ideas for what kind of maps will create the style of play they want in their game, not one from a past game that they didn't even make. Nothing else.

It's not just sprint in H4 that makes larger maps play so much smaller, it's a sprint that lasts a LONG time, has a very short recharge, it's more powerful weapons across the board than the past two games including tremendous range of combat on some of the core weapons, it's a global and personal ordnance drop that is designed to spread powerups and weapons across different areas of the map keeping the gameplay more dynamic than in the past, it's a set of armor abilities that require space to deploy and use alongside global sprint, it's instant respawns in Slayer, and it's a spawning system that has been design to spawn you closer to teammates and the action than in the past few games.

343 has made a significantly faster paced Halo game than 3 or Reach with much larger maps. Old maps to not apply with the exact same design principles. It took me all of 5 minutes with the game to know that maps like Midship, Lockout, and Guardian would be a clusterfuck of a disaster.
I stopped watching when he claimed Halo 1's multiplayer was "so well balanced".

Fun? Yes

Balanced? Hardly.

Those feels, i know them.

I just played about 4 straight games where the guy with host spawned 10-12 seconds before the rest of us, I would just be walking along minding my own business when I would just randomly keel over dead, consistently losing DMR battles because of input lag. I'd play H3, but its netcode is horrible too.

Please, 343, I don't care about loadouts or map design or whatever. Just give me a game with consistently good netcode and I will play it forever.

I wonder what the new map will be thats getting revealed on IGN tomorrow.. or what time it will be revealed for that matter.

My money's on a Construct style vertical map that will work well for teams of 4 or 5 as well as larger games. I don't think we've seen any maps that really emphasize that kind of verticality yet, Solace is probably the closest we've seen.

Construct. <3

And yeah, I have noticed that Halo 4 is lacking some maps with a strong vertical layout. I really hope you are right with that guess.. Maybe a covenant themed map since we haven't seen one of those yet? Im sure it would be gorgeous, everything 343 has released so far has looked stellar with the exception of Ragnarok which just looks ok.

Ok, I think this one tops the Icicle jump as far as ingenuity:

The guy pushed a box under the camo's spawn,
used a grenade to enable the physics and push the
box through the floor while also launching a little
can off the ledge, before finally jump off both of these
in a chain and landing on the ledge.

Insane.

I can't wait for the "Feels more like Halo 3" map pack.

DLC wish list

1. Standoff
2. The Pit
3. Guardian
4. Headlong (again)
5. Avalanche

fuck it
just remake every halo map ever.

I don't think people understand; forge remakes are okay, but they lack the personality that drew so many people to love the maps in the first place. The aura, the general feel of fighting amongst massive trees or between two bunkers or skidding on the ice... just
ugh

So many things are just left unsaid when everything is grayscale and Lego oriented.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

Yeah, one of the things I really like about Halo is the general art design to the environments, and you lose almost all of that in Forge. I love being in Sanctuary, the dry side, the mossy side with the streams of water and puddles, the drip coming from the ceiling on one of the bases.

You go into Asylum and it's just a plot of grass with grey blocks on it.
