There were indicators troughout the film of how different it is from what from modern productions. Not just the quality of the animation, but there were so many opportunities for cost cutting shortcuts that were not taken that would be a given in something made now. It's not surprising that it was so expensive, nor that it wasn't a financial success given the film's focus and pacing..
Well, in part it was the reason why the studio was founded and they were planning it since they commenced to work together. They poured it all in this, their passion as wishful amateurs included, and it shows such excitement and dedication.

Why don't we have a rep system? I need to give you rep.
Thanks, it looks like an interesting read.
It's gwern's merit for collecting this useful information, but I'm glad I could help.

I told you guys Chuunibyou was going to be amazing!

The next .gif I was going to post was the train .gif but it would have broken that page apparently.

I watched ten episodes of One Piece today (of the Water 7 arc). Am I okay? Will this have an adverse effect on my health?

I watch ten episodes of One Piece when I have no time to watch anime, am tired and have to sleep early.

Give us a call when you do 50 episodes in a day. If that happens, then you may end up in trouble.

that's physically impossible

Nope. Anime episodes are at most 24 minutes long (unless we're talking weird OVAs like Figure 17). Take off the OPs and EDs (as most marathoners do) and you're saving 3 minutes an ep. So you're only having to watch 17 1/2 hours of anime to watch 50 eps - while it's not ideal, it's certainly possible.

I'm pretty sure he's linked to it before and you just didn't notice! For shame.
I don't exactly remember right now if that specific one I linked was already posted, but it is true I've used gwern's amazing efforts in making his compilation of texts to share them here... which reminds me of an old interview of Mr. Anno that he wanted to recover and required French translators for (http://forum.evageeks.org/thread/12869/Francophones-wanted/), in June. In case some one doesn't knows; he put it up some days ago, and I don't find necessary to extract determined quotes from it because... really, is worth reading it on its entirety:

Remember that the episodes are ~25 minutes to begin with, plus you can cut out OPs/recaps/EDs. 50 episodes are eminently doable within well under 24 hours, if perhaps not advisable.

i sleep 7 to 8 hours a day .. for me it's impossible

JoJo's Bizarre Adventure - 01

Nice!

If that's the quality to expect from what is just basic punches in the first episode, then i'm in for a treat.

LOL, I'll feel bad too if you goes through 80 hour or something like that.

No it wasn't quite that long. Probably 30-40 hours. I had free time, the VN had just been translated, and was being hyped on the internet. I went ahead and wasted my time on it and it wasn't worth it. Once I got a feel for it I skimmed through some of the side routes until I got to the final refrain sequences. The side routes were pointless in the end anyway and the characters in them were bad. Actually, the only decent characters in the VN were the male ones.

Chuunibyou Demo Koi ga Shitai! Lite 2

Kind of boring, without Yuta, Rikka is kind of uninteresting.
was actually more surprised the other girl was playing around and kind of believing her?

Wow. WOW. Far better than I expected it to be. Really liked how the differences between Jonathan Joestar & Dio's upbringing were highlighted in the opening credits too. Seemed like something more befitting of a movie rather than setup for a tv episode but damn if didn't set the basis for their characters in the first four minutes. Also dat ED. <3 that song.

Man, as there has been so many promotional images of characters dressed as animate employees (apart from Anime Tenchō, obviously) we could even start a poll on which one we think looked like the most 'in his/her element'. What do you think?

I nominate Gurren-Lagann's 'Kamina the Janitor' (don't have the image of him right now, but you might remember seeing it).

Gintama - 253
Gintama' - 51
Gintama' Enchousen - 1
or what ever.

There's something about Gintama which allows me to rewatch an episode numerous times in a short span and not feel bored doing so. Gintama is definitely has its set formula, this isn't a bad thing. We should be thankful Gintama has such a great voice cast. If not for them the show easily could have fallen to shounen mediocrity.

That sounds like quite a feat.

Well I keep hearing its consume 80 hour or something like that, the female chara were bad in what way? its too generic or? Its a VN afterall.. even in a good one they always fit in usual known archetype. Or its bad because they're drama machine?

At the very least you can warn all of us lol.

Romanes Eunt Domus
Legend of the Galactic Heroes 049
Super moé.

This is the classiest "recap episode" I've seen in a while, with roast beef and red wine dinner over a nice piano session. It was also mainly setup for the coming confrontation to come, but it had some nice tidbits with Merkatz and his lackeys broing it up together.

poor Lohengramm ;_; You wouldn't be such a jerk if only
Kircheis were still here

It felt like Key simply made a laundry list of unused gimmicks or stories that they couldn't make work in VNs of their own, and shoved them into the VN. And all the girls have tons of baggage and deep rooted traumas.

And despite all the side routes being required to get to the real story, in the end they were so isolated they just never felt relevant, especially considering
you don't even see a single side route character in Refrain outside the epilogue.
Some of this could actually be fixed in the anime adaptation if the studio trims most of the fat and streamlines everything, but I wasn't very fond of the source material.
