Halo |OT10| The Calm Before The Storm

Yeah- Your average CTF (and objective game, for that matter) was awful. I think the changes will negatively effect the very, very top notch games. But when the bulk majority of your games were broken, you have to fix it. I think the changes will definitely bump up your average game a couple pegs.

The thing about all of these changes- without them, the population will probably suck and that will poorly influence gameplay. I may not love all of them, but I think in the long run it'll be a net gain.

That's exactly how I feel about the CTF changes, I think they dumb the game and objective skills down at the individual level far too much. However I am willing to live with it for the sake of the population and returning CTF to its former cornerstone glory.

343i better be on the ball with rapid changes for objective though, once per month is NOT frequent enough to keep objective players around.

The question I want to ask

to people who hate the CTF change, what is your thought on the Oddball throwing?

I think it's awesome.

I'm gonna be honest, I really LIKE the changes to oddball, or at least, what they seem to be. It makes it more about ball movement than just camping in one spot with the ball, where one person has 250 ball time and everyone else has 0.

also I haven't played with anybody in a long long time and certainly don't want to play Reach so we should get a halo 3 party going sometime this week. maybe friday or saturday.

Is the Scanner helmet part of the LE?

From what I was told no

I'm nonplussed. At least it's adding a gameplay option and not removing one.

Though I may end up thinking it's kinda bullshit that people can just whip the ball off the map when the heat is on, instead of having to risk falling off the map themselves to "play ball".

That's what I was thinking, disappointment of the decade. Juices probably didn't take part in the perfection that was D2 though.
His reaction when I said no 8 player co-op was a knock against D3.

"People actually want that?"

And he wants to bitch about Halo 4 not being progressive, D2 did that shit in 2000 and had PvP at launch and just basically shits all over D3.

Still <3 you juicy.

i think they were alluding to some sort of penalty by doing that

"it will not help you, it will not help your team"

I think it's a great addition. I actually don't like oddball or KOTH but with passing it seems this opens some more elements to the game mechanics. Although a coordinated team will probably win even easier now, it does seem balanced enough for my liking though.

It does, however, seem weird they add passing in Oddball but remove flag dropping in CTF?

I seriously think people won't mind the not being able to drop the flag. It worked really well. It's different, but not bad.

The thing you will grow to hate is the auto pick up. I hope they can patch that out. Don't understand the logic behind it.

What makes you think the changes are going to increase the population of CTF?

And can we really not turn sprint off?

Why would you patch out the ability to accidentally back up into the flag and become the ultimate badass? It comes with a pistol my dude.

Dear 343i,

I don't appreciate y'all promoting all this junk food in my body just so a brotha can have some double XP. Y'all need to double XP some bananas or pistachios or Aquafina or some shit.

Sincerly,

Toddler

here is a thought. Throw a party. buy all that junk. give it away. keep the codes.

Oh, thanks for clearing that up. I'm still going LE, I'm just not sure why.

You DID NOT just link me a game of BTB Heavies to prove a point.

Blood, my fallen hero.

Also, I think we should be training in Halo 3 Team Snipers to prepare for 4!

All I did was link my most recent game bro! I am up for some H3 if you want.

hahaha

Nah, back before Reach came out, Blood was adamant that we play Snipers in H3 to prepare for it's release, I still don't know why.

No, Booties. You just flinch now.

I made the mistake of thinking Reach would be a skill game like Halo 2 and 3 were.

COME AT ME!

ew Dishonered. ew Diablo 3. All about Mass Effect 3 baby. Finally getting back to it. All the female characters have bigger titties than they had in Mass Effect 2. GOTY.

So any new word on any alternate control schemes being added?

I really wish on Recon that reload & sprint were switched, would be absolutely perfect...

I'm about to play Dishonored, Blood.

ME3 was pure garbage, I don't want to see you posting any enjoyment out of that game, but dogging Halo 4!

I'm just confused as to why they build the experience around a committed carrier, but put in a mechanic that will make people involuntarily commit. The draft doesn't work that well bro. If I commit to the flag, I better be sure when I want to grab it. It killed me twice on saturday.

And then, when you call in OS/Damage/Speed, you need to HOLD to pick those up. You never had to hold to pick up a custom/OS. And why would that need to be voluntary? You should be able to run into the drop and get it.

It's just weird and annoying. At least in Halo CE, when the flag was auto pick up, you could drop it.

Other than that the new CTF is awesome. Truly feels like an escort mission. The other Halo's never really gave me that feel. And killing someone with the flagnum is super rewarding.

If being a dedicated flag carrier was so awesome, then people would have never dropped the flag in previous Halo games.

I just don't understand it at all. What part of CTF is this attempting to "fix?"

What makes you think the changes are going to increase the population of CTF?

And can we really not turn sprint off?

It's not really my personal thoughts but the 343i strategy to gain more population for objective/CTF. 343i are essentially making the game very friendly to the first few times new players attempt objective.

For example in Halo 3 or Reach a new player tries CTF, they go into social and basically get completely bamboozled by what they are supposed to do and the efficiency of the enemy team already knowing what to do and where etc.

Imagine trying to understand the map, teamwork and objective mechanics for new players. It's fairly daunting and takes probably 3-10 games before players get familiar. Now factor in regular teams vs random teams and the developers clearly see a need to streamline.

They streamline by highlighting the objective carrier always to create teamwork among randoms and keep the map movements/battles focused on the objectives. This way everyone knows what to do, where to do and when all the time.

It's the same with ordnance drops too.

I'm not so sure it's going to work but I'm willing to try after the abysmal Reach objective population and crappy games throughout Reach's CTF/objective life. Compared to Halo 2 or 3 the objective "fun and competitiveness" went out the window after a few short weeks/months. Since then it's really struggled to attract players and the playlists/setting splintering hasn't helped anything either.

So what do I get with the LE?

Only reason I still have it preordered is because it's apparently rare now.

The LE comes with the skin for the Recruit armor and the skin for the Assault Rifle, as well as an avatar skin wearing the Recruit armor/skin and a cryo tube prop. You also have access to 8 specializations once you reach level 50 instead of just the two Halo 4 gives you at first (faster ranking and quieter footsteps or something).

With the season pass you only get the Strider/Scanner helmets.

Oh, I agree with you completely, a person should voluntarily commit as it has always been. If you're not even going to let the player drop it than it should not be auto-pickup. As for the bolded I did not know that.
