This is the greatest videogame patent I've ever read

i penned a poem for her!

Carolina sky, cutting edge of rock,
On top of the world, the blue ridge mountains,
She touches me-- soaring right there's a hawk,
Stationary-- on the thermal fountains.
Unpromised promises, understood pledge,
In parallel, silent understanding,
So close that words would only be a wedge,
Always there and yet never demanding.
Shared belief and quiet fascination,
Appreciation of the subtle things,
Curious about an explanation,
Yet knowing without the hawk spreads his wings.
Not what you intend, but how you play it,
True love is never having to say it.

video games need to respect poetry, the great books, and a women's soulful beauty far more!

From women's eyes this doctrine I derive:
They are the ground, the books, the academes,
From whence doth spring the true Promethean fire. Shakespeare, (4.3.302) --QUOTES FROM LOVE'S LABOUR'S LOST

Methinks Shakespeare was right about a Woman's Eyes:

Was this the face that launched a thousand ships? --Christopher Marlowe, 1593
Ulysses, noble son of Laertes, are you going to fling yourselves into your ships and be off home to your own land in this way? Will you leave Priam and the Trojans the glory of still keeping Helen, for whose sake so many of the Achaeans have died at Troy, far from their homes? Go about at once among the host, and speak fairly to them, man by man, that they draw not their ships into the sea. --Homer's Iliad
MEPHIST. Faustus, this, or what else thou shalt desire,
Shall be perform'd in twinkling of an eye.

Re-enter HELEN.

FAUSTUS. Was this the face that launch'd a thousand ships,
And burnt the topless towers of Ilium--
Sweet Helen, make me immortal with a kiss.--
[Kisses her.]
Her lips suck forth my soul: see, where it flies!--
Come, Helen, come, give me my soul again.
Here will I dwell, for heaven is in these lips,
And all is dross that is not Helena.
I will be Paris, and for love of thee,
Instead of Troy, shall Wertenberg be sack'd;
And I will combat with weak Menelaus,
And wear thy colours on my plumed crest;
Yea, I will wound Achilles in the heel,
And then return to Helen for a kiss.
O, thou art fairer than the evening air
Clad in the beauty of a thousand stars;
Brighter art thou than flaming Jupiter
When he appear'd to hapless Semele;
More lovely than the monarch of the sky
In wanton Arethusa's azur'd arms;
And none but thou shalt be my paramour!
[Exeunt.]

--Christopher Marlowe's Doctor Faustus, 1593

I somehow knew you were going to say that, word for word.

so what's everyone's take on the claims of the patent? we can't just look at hot chicks all day long, but we must also discuss novel technologies, such as the gold 45 revolver / ideas have consequences / moral premise technologies.

Abstract: http://www.faqs.org/patents/app/20090017886

A video game method and system for creating games where ideas have consequences, incorporating branching paths that correspond to a player's choices, wherein paths correspond to decisions founded upon ideals, resulting in exalted games with deeper soul and story, enhanced characters and meanings, and exalted gameplay. The classical hero's journey may be rendered, as the journey hinges on choices pivoting on classical ideals. Ideas that are rendered in word and deed will have consequences in the gameworld. Historical events such as The American Revolution may be brought to life, as players listen to famous speeches and choose sides. As great works of literature and dramatic art center around characters rendering ideals real, both internally and externally, in word and deed, in love and war, the present invention will afford video games that exalt the classical soul, as well as the great books, classics, and epic films--past, present, and future.
Claims:

1. A method for creating video games and virtual realities wherein ideas have consequences.

2. The method in claim 1 where said ideas are rooted in classical, epic precepts such as those found in the Great Books and Classics, and exalted at the pinnacles of Western culture and history.

3. The method in claim 1 where said ideas are manifested in the words the player or non-player characters, write, speak, read, disseminate, congregate about, fight for, and/or associate with.

4. The method in claim 1 where said ideas are manifested in the actions the player, non-player characters, and/or monsters act out.

5. The method in claim 1 where said ideas spread like viruses, by being spoken, written, or disseminated in some other manner, transforming characters who come in contact with said ideas into vampires, zombies, or other forms of monsters.

6. The method in claim 1 where said ideas spread like viruses, by being spoken, written, or disseminated in some other manner, transforming characters who come in contact with said ideas into vampires, zombies, or other forms of monsters, and where said vampires, zombies, and monsters may be saved or converted back to normal by coming in contact with ideas that oppose the ideas that made them vampires, zombies, and other forms of monsters.

7. The method in claim 1 where said ideas must be fought for via words and dialogue, before they have exalted consequences.

8. The method in claim 1 where said ideas must be fought for via deeds and actions, before they have exalted consequences.

9. The method in claim 1 where the player can fight for said ideas in word and deed, and witness the exalted consequences of those ideals, including liberty, freedom, and justice, when they succeed, and the dire consequences of tyranny, domination, and intimidation, when they fail to render exalted ideas, as ideas have consequences.

10. The method in claim 1 where the character can fight for said ideas such as marriage, the Constitution, the Declaration of Independence, and right to life in word and deed, and witness the exalted consequences of those ideals, including a stable and enduring society should they succeed, and a declining, bankrupt civilization, should they fail.

11. The method in claim 1 where the character can battle for said ideas that are based upon classical moral and economic principles of famous philosophers, prophets, poets, statesmen, and economists including Plato, Moses, Jesus, Gandhi Sun Tzu, Buda, Jefferson, Aristotle, F. A. Hayek, Martin Luther King Jr., Homer, Ludwig Von Mises, Adam Smith, and others, and witness the consequences of both their success and failure of their battle, as the consequences are rendered in the game's physical world.

12. The method in claim 1 where the character can battle for said ideas via both word and deed, using a combination of words and action, witnessing the consequences of their balance between word and deed, between reasoning and partaking in violence, thusly bringing to life epic classical works of film and literature wherein the hero must balance word and deed.

13. The method in claim 1 where fighting for said ideas in word and/or deed will have consequences regarding the operation of a weapon, which will operate at its full potential for the players and characters who are the most successful in serving ideals and ideas, and rendering them in word and deed.

14. The method in claim 1 wherein said ideas may be based upon Constitutional ideals and ideas underlying the American Founding, including the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness, sound currency, the right to bear arms, the freedom of speech, the right of the artist, author, and inventor to own their creations and inventions; and wherein the player could fight for sound money in word and deed and witness the consequences of their successes and failures, including liberty, wealth creation, capitalism, freedom, private property, peace, and prosperity or rapid inflation, deflation, theft via the inflation tax, massive debt, empire, long lines, wealth transfer to the rich, depressions, corruption, and war.

15. The method in claim 1 where the said ideas will be supported or opposed by in-game characters, and the player will have to choose how to interact with the said in-game characters, based on their ideas, including but not limited to whether or not to befriend them, agree with them, disagree with them, ignore them, recruit them, shoot them, save them, judge them, or forgive them.

16. The method in claim 1 where the said ideas are based upon the pivotal plot points of the great books and classics.

17. The method in claim 1 where said ideas spread like viruses, by being spoken, written, or disseminated in some other manner, transforming characters who come in contact with said ideas into vampires, zombies, or other forms of monsters; and when bad ideas have infected too many in-game characters, the consequences are dire, including the loss of life, liberty, happiness, freedom, and security.

18. The method in claim 1 wherein said ideas may be related to economics and monetary policy, and wherein the player could fight for sound money in words echoing the classical economists and deed and witness the consequences of their successes and failures, including liberty, freedom, peace and prosperity or rapid inflation, deflation, theft via the inflation tax, massive debt, empire, long lines, depressions, corruption, and war.

19. The method in claim 1 wherein moral ideas have moral consequences in the evolution of the gameworld.

20. The method in claim 1 where said ideas in the video game world are founded upon the natural ideas and ideals occurring at the plot points in great works of literature and film where a character must choose whether to serve an ideal or not serve an ideal, thusly rendering or not rendering ideals real by their actions, and influencing the greater outcome and state of the game world, as ideas have consequences.

21. The method in claim 1 where said ideas in the video game world are used to exalt the classic hero's journey, and where a player's success and progress at every stage or step or plot point of said hero's journey is defined by said player's service or disservice to said ideas and ideals, and where by said player's serving said ideas and classical ideals, said hero's journey advances towards ultimate victory and triumph, while by said character's failing to serve said ideas and classical ideals, progress in said hero's journey is retarded or reversed.

Well, I'm curious, why did you choose a revolver (I'm guessing it has something to with your affinity for cowboy hats and the old west)? Why did you choose Zeus's lightning?

You already talked about why the weapon turns gold, so going over that again in your imminent wall of text probably isn't necessary. Anyway, it's 3 AM, I'm going to sleep, and I'm half-expecting a long and formidable block of text in this thread by tomorrow morning.

what the fuck is this thread?

No seriously... why does it still exist?

Who the fuck is this Revolver?

Why does he/she has 20+ posts a page full of pics and shit NOT related to gaming (beside the fucking thread title and first post)?

I am so lost... so very lost...
Nice tits though...

hello! i really would love to discuss the gold 45 revolver technology/patent more; and all the novel gaming opportunities it exalts!

what's everyone's take on this: http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/DrEl...ology__Making_Billions_in_the_Renaissance.php

"Improving/Exalting/Simplifying Assassin's Creed, Mass Effect, Gears of War, GTA, Fallout, Left For Dead, and all RPGs/FPSs With The Gold 45 Revolver /Ideas Have Consequences/Moral Premise Technology & Making $$$$Billions$$$ in the Renaissance

Why has this man not been banned yet?

A lot of people are saying this is one of the greatest neogaf threads ever.

It makes them laugh and cry, though sometimes in the opposite places I intend them to, but I am working on that.

And the larger intent is to exalt a billion dollar renaissance in gaming--save jobs and bolster market cap!

Read above--"Holy shit, I can't believe I ignored this thread for a week. This is fantastic."

At the risk of wandering into something that I will regret in the near future, I must say that I'm not entirely sure how the basic concept in the patent thingie is much different than the "your actions change the game" sorts of highly immersive text adventures in the days of old.

Ya know this guy may have a few interesting ideas, it's too bad it's hard to find them buried beneath all the links and the walls of copy and pasted text. You should be a little more down to Earth and communicate better and express your ideas more coherently. Instead you basically say the same thing over and over and it seems like you're just joking around.

Somehow linking to your own blog on gamasutra doesn't count?

Thanks for the words!

Yes--I would love to focus on what you call "a few interesting ideas." Ask away!

As I move into phase 2 of world domination via the Gold 45 Revolver / Ideas Have Consequences / Moral Premise technologies, I would like to take a step back and address the class regarding any and all questions with downsized walls of text.

The walls of text are not intentional, but rather the by-product of the fact that I have to carry with me the foresaken classical, epic context when I explain the novel gaming dynamics.

So please do ask away!

while waiting for the gamining industry to parse through the walls of text (epic lit), I've got nothing better to do thansurf & take pics of hot chicks which nobody has complained about so far, so I'll keep on sharing. :)

Please--let's not let beauty distract us from the billion-dollar opportunities which will be exlated by the novel gold 45 revolver tech, but let's allow it to inspire us to work harder for our Dodge Vipers!

http://www.gamasutra.com/blogs/DrEl..._Moral_Premise_InnovationsTechnologyGames.php

Ask away! Dr. E is @ your service! (I'm thinking about opening 45surf university this fall, as college is such a ripoff when homer/the great books can be downloaded for free)!

Would you guys be up for registering for a photography class or two?

Remember! There is no such thing as stupid questions in this class... only the stupid fear of being afraid to ask. So ask away--anything about the gold 45 revolver tech or anything else--physics/philosophy/poetry!

System and method for creating exalted video games and virtual realities … by Elliot McGucken
Are you ready to patent your own game system and method? Here’s a sample of Elliot McGucken’s patent application:

“… 6. The method in claim 1 where said ideas spread like viruses, by being spoken, written, or disseminated in some other manner, transforming characters who come in contact with said ideas into vampires, zombies, or other forms of monsters, and where said vampires, zombies, and monsters may be saved or converted back to normal by coming in contact with ideas that oppose the ideas that made them vampires, zombies, and other forms of monsters…”

yes--i registered fiatocracy.com last year.

i don't know if i should put large walls of text there, or exalted pitcures of hot chicks.

perhaps both?

in these situations i always ask myself, "what would ea do?"

and then i put beatrice in heaven.

thousands of years from now scholars will talk about the two eras of gaming that defined our times--the pre-gold 45 revolver and the post gold 45 revolver eras.

which do you want to be a part of?

You know, in Shakespeare, the characters with truely meaningful things to say were always portrayed as madmen. This was apparently so the great minds watching would see past there mental instability and appreciate what they had to say, whilst the important higher-ups would just laugh at the 'comedy character' and miss any insult to their rule.

Difference between those characters and you is that they actually had something to say, you're just fucking mental. Please stop shoe-horning classic literature to fit your 'cause'. It's embarrasing.

I liked that flash game though.

I'll give you an A if you can name the play which the words tattooed on her arm come from.

the girls and i are so filled with joy that you are talking about the bard, and the school year hasn't even started!

shakespeare is a central plank in our game design 101 class! i hope you join us!

you are going to fit right in at 45surf university this fall! this is going to be better than hogwarts!

the yale shakespeare also doubles for a seat out there! when we're not using it as a guide to design gold 45 revolver video games with epic story, exalted spirit, and deeper romance/character/poetry--games that exalt women, romance, and love!

Its from the Tempest. I studied it in college way back.

Be not afeard: the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs that give delight, and hurt not.
Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears; and sometime voices,
That, if I then had wak'd after long sleep,
Will make me sleep again; and then, in dreaming,
The clouds methought would open and show riches
Ready to drop upon me, that, when I wak'd,
I cried to dream again.

Love it. Do I get an A now?

An A+! I acted teh role of Prospero in college! It's in my JA Wheeler rec. in this thread!

Next, before we move on to creating games wherein deep, classical ideas have epic consequences, we will study how to get water out of one's boots when surfcowboying.

Do you have the full quote from the part(s) that are on her arms? I don't think I ever read the whole Tempest, but I loved A Midsummer Night's Dream (the most rhyming poetry in any Shakespeare play, and amazing incidental music by Mendelssohn)!

They're not modeling agencies. Speaking of models and games.
Games shouldn't be used to model real life (moral) situations

Also, you lay it on too thick. It comes of as a bad ARG. I don't know what you're pushing but it's no I LOVE BEES.

you're sooooooo 2002 gtaish falloutish "let's kill a hooker"ish fanboyish!

the realm of video games is about to undergo an exalted sea change that will make gta/fallout seem like atari combat.

bob wrote this for you:

The Times They Are A-Changin'
Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone.
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come writers and critics
Who prophesize with your pen
And keep your eyes wide
The chance won't come again
And don't speak too soon
For the wheel's still in spin
And there's no tellin' who
That it's namin'.
For the loser now
Will be later to win
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come senators, congressmen
Please heed the call
Don't stand in the doorway
Don't block up the hall
For he that gets hurt
Will be he who has stalled
There's a battle outside
And it is ragin'.
It'll soon shake your windows
And rattle your walls
For the times they are a-changin'.

Come mothers and fathers
Throughout the land
And don't criticize
What you can't understand
Your sons and your daughters
Are beyond your command
Your old road is
Rapidly agin'.
Please get out of the new one
If you can't lend your hand
For the times they are a-changin'.

The line it is drawn
The curse it is cast
The slow one now
Will later be fast
As the present now
Will later be past
The order is
Rapidly fadin'.
And the first one now
Will later be last
For the times they are a-changin'.
