CSR is a step in the right direction, but waypoint only leaves me scratching my head.. why not have it display in game for every playlist, even if its for that user only? Also, there should be a least one playlist that is built around this feature, making the ranks the main MM criteria and allowing everyone to see them. It would honestly be a good fit in Team Slayer Pro.

I agree 100%. It's up to us to keep asking for this until we get it. Politely, but insistently. Until we get it. If enough people do it over time, 343 will eventually give us what we want.

So are the Warheads worth it? I was looking at those or Astro A50/A40's

The major advantage it seems is that the Warheads appear to be totally wireless, even the mic. Unlike the Astro's which need a cable for the mic on the wireless ones.

Are the A50's mic wireless like the Warhead. I couldn't seem to find that on their site.

I have the A50s, they are awesome. You do have one wire from the controller to the headset though, but that's it.

This game looks a lot like CoD when watching the streams. Domination is such a great gametype glad they copied that from CoD as thats like what I played 90% of the time. I'm going to destroy in this piece.

They look super comfortable. Im trading in my OG 360 console since Im getting the Halo 4 one. I'm getting 100$ towards either one and Gamestop sells both. So I'm not sure which I prefer. Problem is I think the Astor's look aesthetically nicer, but technically speaking the Warheads seem better? Though I have no experience with either.

So I really don't know.

If this really is an evolution of the BPR, then I'm not sure how it qualifies as a ranking system in comparison to Halo 3's and Halo 2's ranking system, mostly since it doesn't seem like it'll have an influence upon matchmaking criteria (unless of course it's just displaying TrueSkill data, in which case why have it only visible on Waypoint at first?) Definitely feeling indifferent about the news until we actually get substance in regards to how it works, which isn't what I expected to feel.

It is a pure skill ranking, not BPR. Effectively the same data (only more of it) that made a 1-50 rank. It can be averaged over everything you do, or measured per game hopper. It is not BPR.

Well the whole thing sounds pretty cool to me.

Sounds awesome, why isn't it a day 1 patch?

Because we are using player data and population behavior to prevent the problems that happened with the last one. (In before somebody says that there were no account boosters/rank whorers etc and that only a couple of bad apples did that.)

So essentially a global matchmaking rank can also be made available all based on Win/Loss? Pretty cool even though that type of rank would innaccurate unless playlists were weighted properly based on skill population and other stuff.

I love talking about matchmaking and ranks and stuff like TrueSkill. It has such an underrated effect on player's experience and satisfaction.

Should I see something on this broadcast besides a big room full of people and silence?

EDIT regarding ranks: I bet it wouldn't be hard for them to not include join in progress games.

Thank you for the hard work you guys are putting in to make this work. I figure ranks are more of a longevity thing like MM updates and are unnecessary at launch so im extremely excited! My friend called and woke me up from my pre-MLG nap with the news and i about lost it!

Dallas seats are filling up now :)

So the reason for no ranks next to your name in game is cheating/boosting? Why not tighten the security so that the minority that ruins it for everyone faces the consequences instead of the players who just want a good ranking system?

Boosting and buying accounts won't happen if the visible rank remains within Waypoint though.

Will you eventually make the rank visible in game (at least for the player)

343 are good folk. While I don't personally care for ranks, this will make a lot of players happy, which will make me happy (especially for Cyren and Tashi).

Got a question, and dunno if it's been asked: The blog seems to imply that all playlists will have ranks, is that so? If not, what playlists at launch will not have ranks? I'd rather not play in competitive playlists.

Edit: Apparently it won't be in game. Nevermind.

I have to say Im glad i don't work in 343i, no matter what you do, people will always complain, now we got a skill based rank, people still find ways to complain about it.

Right now having access to a official rank system outside the game, is better than nothing, and just a positive step towards maybe having it incorporated in the game in the future. I think 343 wants to test and analyze players behavior with this passive ranking system to see how it will affect Matchmaking overall before it having it in the game.

Cool. Yeah, there are some consequences to the 50 system, but its absence was one of the reasons why people I talked to IRL stopped playing Halo once Reach came around. Glad the team is listening.

its funny, Bungie got rid of the ranks so that people wouldn't like their game as much to prevent cheating haha

Because the implementation sucks. You think homeless people are going to be super happy when they can sleep in a cardboard box instead of op sleeping under the sky? It's better but it's in no regard an ideal solution.

Isn't that the idea? Keep ranks locked away so nobody gives a damn about them?

Their rank is their rank

In game viewable to self and in waypoint is the EXACT same thing

Except for requiring to jump through hurdles

I would prefer not to have a laptop open when I am playing so I can get up to date information that shouldn't be buried

I want to know EXACTLY where I stand before I press start game
