kanye song cycle?

lets rank them!
Well.. Since you asked. Last Call and Through the Wire from CD. Drive Slow and Crack Music from LR. Can't Tell Me Nothing and Good Morning off Grad. Fuck 808's. Dark Fantasy and Hell of a Life off MBDTF.

Won't count WTT and Cruel Summer.

Anyone pick up Mic Tyson?

Sean_Price-Cover-hhdx.jpg

Aside from the fact that it has an awesome cover, Most of the beats are kind of dated, and there isn't much in the way of a single memorable hook, but it's a good workout/gym album for me. And the song By The Way has a cool beat that sounds like a lost SNES Castlevania track or something.
That's disappointing. It was going to be my next buy but maybe not now.

A lot of the beats are mixtape quality shit. Still, Price goes in on most. IMO the stand out tracks with the best beats

-Genesis Of the Omega (Alchemist)
-Straight Music (9th Wonder)
-Frankenberry
-Bully Rap (Alchemist)
-Battering Bars

Also some of the tracks don't sound mastered. You can tell which ones Alchemist touched up and which he didn't lol. Still, I fux with it

So yesterday I literally had withdrawl symptons from not hearing GKMC for a few days. I probably looked like a crazy person to my girlfriend, the songs just wouldn't get out of my head. How's that for an hyperbole?

Yes, I dig this album I actually just came in here to post about it. Yeah I guess if you don't like Alchemist and Evidence production you would call it "dated", I mean there aren't any Lex Luger beats on it or anything.
Come on Ninja I know you liked that
I would've liked to hear some Beatminerz stuff on it myself as even their later work is criminally underrated, but do they even make beats anymore? Tracks on the album that go hard:

The Genesis Of Omega
Bar Barian
Straight Music (but holy shit, 9th Wonder is still using the same snare after all these years)
Frankenberry
BBQ Sauce (love this one)
Battering Bars

All that being said, Monkey Barz > Mic Tyson, but that doesn't mean Mic Tyson is a shitty album IMO. Mic Tyson doesn't hit the highs that Monkey Barz hit, but it also doesn't hit the lows.

I love it when my bitch cook; come home to a hot meal, it's not real the bitch can't cook!

Wait people expected the movie to be good?

On a scale of 1-10?

Meh

Hey, our discussions maybe high in fidelity, but at least we're not talking out of our asses. Just ask 36.

Im too hungover to even understand what kind of shots are being fired here.

People dont really expect Iron Fists to be good right? I mean shit it looks like itll be fun to watch and like Ninja said being blazed will help. Looks like a fun movie but not something thats artistically credible. My girlfriends going to see it with me because I told her Tarantino directed it and its gotten almost perfect reviews. Boy is she in for a surprise.

I agree. I had that discussion a few OT threads ago, but almost no one agreed, unfortunately...

I wasnt around unfortunately. That shits a classic. Love the whole vibe of the album. All the beats are cohesive to the overall vibe. Jays spitting mean bars too. Has that same GKMC effect that you wanna listen to the whole shit rather then pick or choose a couple songs.

Although every album has it missteps, GKMC has Poetic Justice, AG has Hello Brooklyn. Apart from the lame Lil Wayne inclusion, the beat doesnt mesh with the rest of the album. I dont think its a terrible song, but is shoulda been a bonus track or some shit. Or even street single, just not included on the album.

Speaking of the Beatminerz.. Here's a throwback album that a lot of you probably missed back when it came out since it was on Rawkus and they were busy going under and shit when they put this out back in '02:

Da Beatminerz - Brace 4 Impak

These guys are at their best on this album IMO, and have lots of great rappers on the record. Definitely worth at least listening to the iTunes snippets.

They don't make beats like this anymore :(

AG isnt a classic(not high enough highs, some bullshit tracks), but i do like it tho. It's like kampsy or des said, AG gets too much love, Vol 1. doesnt get enough.

How dare you speak about your father like that. Anyway im going to see that on Monday cause its the RZA and all.

My favorite Ye song is still Flashing Lights. It just has always felt like a nice blend of his best points to me. Grand and epic sounding, yet not bogged down and muddied with too many production elements, simple verse and hook, GOAT sample flipping. And it has a great great video.

Jesus Walks cracks me up. Kanye acting like Christians can't speak their mind in pop music and how making a song about God might ruin his career

This is America, your core audience is black.

Making a song about Jesus is not gonna body your career lmao

Name other rappers whose debut single was about Jesus. It's not like he was saying America would've been against Jesus (lol) but that A&Rs weren't looking for that type of shit. That track was turned down several times by them before somebody let it out. Remember Rhymefest? Lol.

Through The Wire was his first single wasnt it?

Yeah, Jesus Walks was like his 3rd or 4th single.

Nobody was doing what Kanye did on the mainstream level at the time. Radio was full of club songs and gangsta shit (unless you sere Eminem) at a time where radio and tv were the main avenues for hyping your music. You best believe a song about Jesus was a hard sell, given how different it sounded and how different Kanye dressed

I remember lots of ninjas saying Kanye was too gay for their ears, then listening to Kanye on the down low with me in the back of my Ford Explorer
