Persona 4 Golden |OT| Love is the only gold.

The dating thing gets blown way out of proportion. Ignore it. Terrible fanbase getting attached to the wrong aspects of the game etc. etc.

i would say the social link aspect is like 35% of the game. Not too much, but still a nice chunk.

sorry I gotta. Yu is so SWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAG

You guys are really reassuring me with these answers. Hype levels rising.

You will still be doing quite a bit of socializing, but unlike Vanilla P3 and P3FES, you can friendzone all the girls. P3 actively encouraged you to cheat with everyone, and that was very odd, and I feel like that was a huge disconnect with the message of the game, but it was probably only done because it was unfinished, not because they really wanted you to cheat on everyone. You could explain it though....withSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAGSWAG

S Link is not dating sim. Talking to a dying boy about writing his novel as his final accomplishment should not be synonymous with terrible innuendo with scantily clad girls.

That sounds good. I'm totally on-board with the idea of socializing and all of that, I just don't get extremely excited at the thought of getting to pick my favorite virtual girl when it comes to games.

I wish I'd known I could friendzone the girls in Persona 4. :p I felt like the biggest dickhead ever on Valentine's Day.

But...lets take for example the Yumi link. If you romance her or not, the link is more or less the same. It doesn't automatically put her in a bikini and start crackin' innuendos everywhere. That stuff is reserved for that dumb new hot spring scene.

Read my edit at the top of the page. It's all good, brah, don't worry.

Golden still has a few scenes that will make you go :/ but they're skippable at worst anyway.

That's pretty much my point.

What I'm saying is that Persona isn't a dating sim. It just gets labelled that by the weirdo portion of the fan-base.

Like you say, Yumi's S Link, for example: It's about her father dying in hospital and her projecting that onto everyone in the Drama Club.

My solid gold from amazon.ca says it's not shipping the 23rd. Great.
I bet the retail copies of the regular version are gonna be late too.

Hah I read about that. About time there are consequences for that.

How bout dat Rise concert brah. I mean...Rise could have performed herself, which would be unnecessary to see but it would make sense, but I refuse to believe they can all get so good in that short time.

Yeah, that's one of the reasons why I brought this up. I saw the majority of the discussion in the review thread and all of a sudden I was wondering if I really knew what i was getting into, lol.

At least you're aware it's there (It wasn't in the original P4 at all). I went in blind in the Japanese release and it really brought me down, particularly because I'd just finished the glory that is P3P.

It's just so lame. I hate that scene so much. The only good part is that
Yosuke's guitar is the same as Meguro's.

In the fighting game sequel even, the MC doesn't seem to have gone with any of them or at least its not completely obvious, so it is a totally viable way to go, as you get the same benefits from maxing a friend link for a girl that you do for maxing the lover link, at least in the original.

I think you miss out on Christmas gifts, or something.

Is the anime on Crackle or anything?

I've always been very interested in this game as a long-time fan of JRPGs but I never got the chance to pick it up. I'm pretty much sold on the game at this point but I'm a little worried about all of the dating/weird fan-servicey stuff that's in the game or has been added. I know it probably gets annoying hearing this brought up all the time but I was just wondering how important that stuff is as far as overall enjoyment of the game. Even in games like Mass Effect I avoid the "romancing" stuff because it seems silly and contrived so if that is a huge part of this game it could be a deal-breaker for me.

Sorry to bring this up again, I'm just trying to figure out if this is really significant or if it's being blown out of proportion because of the "interesting" additions.

The problem with mass egrets relationship stuff is that they don't contribute to game play but they do help develop characters. From what I've gathered from my current play in P3P it's the opposite where building these relationships contributes to the game but develops the characters rather shallowly. Binary domain also does some interesting stuff with the dialog option stuff I wish some one could take some cues from these three games and do something with it.

It is actually really significant. The main point of P3 and P4 are the dating/s-link elements where you build the relationships with the characters. All the other rpg systems are just driving this and the main story along.

You can ignore all of them to pretend the game is something it is not so you are not a "terrible fan", but this largely defeats the point. It doesn't mean you can't enjoy the game without them but it is so much better if you get involved with the characters.

P4G adds some extra fan service elements that go over the top, but they are still mainly in the spirit of the base game and I wouldn't be too concerned about it given the short length. The good news is that all those elements you might be concerned about are actually very well done and don't feel contrived at all.

Nobody is saying social links are not part of the game.

What they are saying is that social links =/= dating sim.

That is probably fair enough. It still stands to me that the main focus of the game is the social links, dating related or otherwise.

I'm willing to bet if you added up the hours, you spent more times in dungeons and battles than doing the social links. Easily.

The social links exist to boost the RPG aspects of the game.

btw i like the social links

This is correct. Social Links are absolutely a main point, to the extent that without them I wouldn't care nearly as much.

But they're not a dating sim.

EDIT: Also, my VGP order has been posted, so I guess everyone else's has also.

Yay?

Easily yes. But if I didn't have the s-links to go back to, I probably wouldn't have spent those hours.

Bit of a chicken and egg problem, but all together it works beautifully.

I don't think anyone said S-Links weren't a main part of the game. The game just gets a bad rap from some people because they see what S-Links entail and just cry "DATING SIMMMMMM" instead of attempting to understand at all.

S-Links augment your ability to create personae. They're very, very powerful. So much so that it's worth your effort to plan out your time in order to max your S-Links ASAP. You don't have to, but it's rewarding.

Everything in P4 is connected. None of the gameplay elements can be done without affecting the others. That's why it's dumb to focus on ONE aspect of it. You spend a majority of your time in the dungeons, but you wouldn't be able to be as efficient in the dungeons without your S-Links.

I doubt this is the best place to ask this, but whatevs.

Is Persona 2 supposed to be incredibly easy? I just got to the part after
I beat up the the class president of Cuss High and then he got burnt to a crisp by that badass lion guy wearing a mask. Fighting the class president was a joke. Admittedly it's fun to kick ass in RPGs once in a while, but do any of you think I should up the difficutly? It's set to normal right now.

It's probably the best place to ask it, to be honest.

And yeah, if you're playing the PSP version, it is incredibly easy. That's kind of a good thing though, because the gameplay is outdated as heck and grinding would be a real pain nowadays with those systems (And load times).

The original was already kind of easy, the psp version is extremely easy. If you do the theater quests when you are first allowed to and survive them, you are basically unkillable for a long part of the game.

Yeah good point, getting cards and shit is part of the fun here, I don't want to ruin it. The music is rockin' in this game though, which is probably part of the reason it's holding my attention. That and the old-school feel the way the story is told.

It's a good thing I know what happens when you choose the romance path with all the girls. I always chose romance to see the different scenes. Now I can stay faithful and not feel like a dick come the Valentine's Day event. Chances are I'll still cheat on everyone though.

Ummmm yes? Who are you two?

EDIT: Ah nvm I see what's happened here, and yes that is me. lol

It is quite god awful, I agree. lol

Well for me, I know of you from another forum, and we have a mutual friend in a certain Man of Silence.

I should also mention, we were supposed to mimic the dances in the opening, basically because they're awkward, stupid, and in some cases physically impossible. lol

Haha, yeah that opening is incredibly awkward, and I'm impressed you were able to imitate it at all. Looks like they're all dancing on ice.
