ZombiU |OT| Zombi Emergency! WiiU WiiU WiiU WiiU

What games are you getting for your Wii U?

Please stop; I appreciate that you feel the need to vet any and all reviews that come forward, and the Gamespot review suffers by being the first one (I think) to have his name attached to the review, but vetting forum posters for loyalty and hype is going to just further derail conversation and not accomplish anything.

I don't know if I'm qualified to make this post--I have both Wii U and ZombiU preordered, but I don't typically play survival horror games so.

The only problem that will bring to reviews of Wii U games, will be a difficulty separating objecting failings in the game itself, from inherent dislike of having to play a game within the Wii U's environment. It is indeed the wii remote over again or Skyward Sword: Part 2.

The thing is, I have to wonder how publications and organizations will bother trying to account for this. For example, I don't often see console FPS reviews done, in the game console section of a site, by a PC purist who despises analog sticks. And believes they ruin games, and make them unplayable. If for instance, Halo 4 was reviewed by 50% people who refuse to play console FPSes, would that not give the impression that Halo 4 was extremely mediocre?

This is, a problem I had with Wii reviews the past generation; you'd almost inevitably get a reviewer for a site of note, who pretty clearly came into the review with a giant sigh and a shrug. "Ah damn. I have to use that wagglemote thing. I hate this. I wish it never existed."

Obviously, we need a variety of opinions, and viewpoints. My only hope is that we don't see a steady stream of reviews and press opinions slanted by an attitude of "God, why did this Wii U game have to be Upad only? I hate having to look away from the TV for any reason. Let's get this over with as fast as possible."

There can be valid criticism of control 'gimmicks' being shoehorned in where they aren't needed though. And there will be times when you're bouncing you're head up and down like David Gray between the TV and gamepad because of bad game design.

In this case the use of the gamepad sounds good. IMO for scribblenauts it sounds bad, because the TV almost becomes redundant due to the primary interface being entirely on the gamepad with lots of touch.

What's the most competently written preview for this game? I'd like to read more about it.

Anything the OP missed that I should check out?

So wait, did the Gamespot review leak or something? Embargo ends tomorrow...

Between a 4.5 and a 7 from Edge, I think we should just wait until more reviews pour in.

Fair enough. It's over, and I am out the door anyway. See you all in a few hours when the "truth" will be revealed!

LOL. I assumed it was out of 5.

So the review will go live later on today or do you have a link?

Do what I'm going to do with ZombieU...wait for all the reviews to come out and play the demo. Software shouldn't be hard to find.

I wonder if some of this hate is due to people justifying their Wii U purchase with Zombi U, an exclusive/mature Wii U title. And they can't take the thought of it being shit, regardless of whether or not it's true due to the price of the investment?

The gamespot review did a pretty good job convincing me that it is not an especially fun game. I was hoping for a highly tense, difficult but rewarding challenge. This sounds more like going from random point A to random point B and hitting lone zombies with a boring mechanic (cricket bat).

The review could be wrong. But I'm not a survival horror enthusiast and I'm not an FPS enthusiast. I preordered Zombi U because it had a lot of interesting concepts. I'm not shocked if they turn out to not be fleshed out properly.

I do wish the review at least mentioned things like the graphics and performance. But if a random game reviewer found the game tedious as shit, we should thank him for his honest opinion. Not blast him for "being wrong" about a **game we haven't played.** He might have just saved me $60. I cancelled my preorder but its still on my radar. I'll rent it or if more reviews come out and they're glowing, or good word of mouth here, I'll reconsider. Mario and NintendoLand should keep me pretty busy for a couple weeks anyway.

Sounds about right, to be honest.

to be honest sounds like edge zealots,i have seen a lot of them here, for some people edge its some sort of golden bible of sacred truth

a seven on edge its just a seven, lets wait for more reviews,3 reviews its too premature

.

there is some of that,in the past I'dbeen called "hater" because i gave not so positive impressions about the game (funny thing this is the game who gonna sell me the system,i still have the preorder of the zombieu pack, but i will wait some months if more negative reviews see the light) when i played on ubisoft days some months ago

Spoiler alert: I'm hoping this is the case. Yeah really.

I'm mainly interested in it because of the game play concept and inerface. I'm tired of the same old zombie stuff, zombies are very played out.

Now if it gets weird and batshit halfway through... I realize some people don't want that, but my enjoyment of it will go up measurably.

Don't you watch Fringe? In the parallel world, Red Steel was game of the generation and the franchise is bigger than COD.

Same here. I just want something that makes me feel a gamepad is a good and interesting method for interacting with a console. ZombiU looks like the best example of it so far, and I'm going in knowing it'll likely be a bit rough around the edges. You need to read a few reviews, ideally from people whose taste you are familiar with, in order to build up a picture of whether the game sounds like it'll entertain you enough for the price of admission. And each persons' 'enough' will be different.

I wish the edge digital edition was out, I'm curious to read the text. But the score and the summary that has been quoted already make me feel more comfortable with buying this

I mentioned the big possibility of this game being a complete dud a long time ago.

Disappointed if it turns out to actually be the case. The GS video review really did make the game look like a fucking chore to play.

What games are you getting for your Wii U?

See, there you go again trying to discredit people. Apparently, you can't be critical about anything or anyone unless we're all getting Wii U's I hope you understand how you look like a bitter and insufferable fanboy and it gets worse the longer you continue.

I'm not getting a Wii U until January. It's going to a gift for my brother but I plan to buy games I want for it. None of this matters of course but since you think it's so critical to my ability to discuss a game, I'll humor you.

So let's see:

- No racing or games that heavily involve driving (digital triggers are gross)
- No late ports or games that are superior on the PC
- No shovelware

So what does that leave me with? Well, I'll be getting the premium so Nintendoland of Whimsy is a given. I'll also be getting Scribblenauts Unlimited, Rayman Legends, Tank! Tank! Tank!, and Warriors Orochi 3 Hyper. I was going to get ZombiU since I'm a huge fan of zombie games (over 1000 hours logged playing DayZ!) but it sounds like it'll be bad.

No, you are discrediting him. It's a dangerous opinion to attempt to say someone is not fit for their job by selecting some slice of his review history.

Why? At the end of the day it's just one person's opinion against another. This isn't like medicine where someone's wrong opinion can kill someone. Lighten up Francis.

Woops. It seems like I've stumbled into the wrong thread. I thought we were here to talk about the game, not review controversy.

Can someone create a review thread so we can clean this shit up?
Yes, know a name change for the topic is in order:

ZombiU |OT| Zombi Emergency! WiiAah! WiiAah! WiiAah!

Of course. I'm just separating the people who will call anything useless, or a gimmick, because they dislike concepts that deviate from their norms, from people who might give a fair or insightful opinion.

Then there's the issue of interpretation of concepts. For instance, the NintendoLand reviews so far have been interesting due to how differently various reviewers took certain ideas. A few didn't like the games that intentionally forced you to conceptualize both screens at the same time, like the Yoshi's Cart game, or Balloon Trip. While others felt those were some of the more appealing uses of the interface. And said new ideas were stimulating.

Well there are supposed to be alot of non-melee weapons in the game if I recall correctly, so if all he was doing was running around with a bat..there is something wrong there.

Just like... everyone else. Did you miss the Red Steel comparisons in absolutely every ZombiU thread? lol

Did you miss the hordes of people being crazily offended when ZombiU got compared to Red Steel?

Who cares. It's sad either way. It was the only title I really held onto as a potential massive sleeper hit.

So basically Ubisoft did another Red Steel? All great concept, chore to actually play? Must say I'm pretty glad I didn't preorder the Deluxe bundle now.

Good to hear the dungeon master mode at least works great, that was the most enticing concept of the gamepad to me.

Only preordered game I have, I am still a bit on the fence about how good its going to be.

Any one got any experiences?

As a reference is it as good, a lot better or a lot worse than Condemed:CO was as a launch game for the 360, I really liked that game.

There's probably no children in the game, that must be why.

I've actually got a problem with there being no zombie kids in the game. Given the amount of kids in London you'd expect there to be a few zombie kids to kill. But I guess that might upset a fair few people lol

Ah meant the magazine article. Saw it on Zinio and almost bought it. Oh well

It's mainly positive, only negatives are:
that the realism gets lost towards the end of the story - 'fantasy' elements
that you have to backtrack near the end which makes those revisited areas less scary once you know their tricks etc.

Also complains that later explosive enemies feel unnecessarily difficult in a game where the odds are very much stacked against you already.

Conclusion from the article:

'Zombi U however is a title that will infuse impulse buyers, early adopters and Nintendo diehards with relief and appreciation for the novel gameplay that Wii U can and willl continue to provide. It's a confident start, if not an end in itself - one that makes us eagerly anticipate where Montpellier will take its ideas next.'

The problem with discounting this review is that he's not vague with his concerns. He doesn't speak in vague, general terms -- he describes specific, critical flaws of the game. If the guy didn't go into detail and gave it a 4.5 then the backlash could be legitimate. He goes into detail. The game just isn't good, like most launch games. I think the groundwork is there for the sequel to do much better. They'll add online play, probably co-op, deeper combat, everything.

By the way, Dead Island was a fantastic game. An open-world zombie game in a beautiful bright tropical island with 4-player online co-op and probably the best first person melee combat ever in a game (super satisfying and fun), a good loot system, crafting, vehicles, just a great fucking game. I put 60 hours into that game.

McKayla Maroney is ATOMIC hot, like I can't put into words how hot. Young, super tight and toned, super flexible, an ass you could bounce a basketball of, gorgeous face, holy mackerel...
