I think a lot of the hate comes from people that don't own the system and just see a laundry list of issues.

I am an owner and love it, but there are some issues. Any show stoppers for me? Nah.

Slow OS - very annoying, but still functional
Can't transfer NID yet - couldn't care less
Miiverse outage - it's working well now, and is addicting
Gamepad battery life - it sucks, but is comfortable to play while charging. Looking forward to expanded batteries.
Overscan issues - annoying, but hopefully will be patched

Looking at a list, the system might seem crappy and are easy to bitch about online. But as a normal user, those things don't really get in the way of the overall experience.

Is anyone actually enjoying their Wii U? I was going to make a thread asking this question but the front page is so cluttered with Wii U threads already, most if them boiling down to how bad the system sucks.

Well i for one am really enjoying it along with my 8 yr old daughter. She prefers us playing together in Nintendo Land, but im more into NSMBU. She's just not very good at it and doesnt really know the Mario Universe that i grew up with.

I've already spent more time with it than i did the Wii during its entire life cycle. I hated the waggle controls from the beginning. I love the game pad and its nice to finally see some HD graphics on a Nintendo console.

Surely I am not on an island out here by myself.
I'm absolutely loving mine apart from the crashing problems in NSMBU and Nintendo Land. I'm starting to think they're MiiVerse related as none of my other games cause crashes. Hopefully Nintendo can update them so they don't crash as often. I'm going to not play them until then and play all of my other games I bought.

Other than that it's really awesome. I especially love the browser as I can play YouTube on the TV and browse the net on the Game Pad. I always had to use my phone's shitty browser when I was watching YouTube on my Xbox 360/PS3 so this is a massive upgrade. I kinda wish YouTube had 480p for HTML5 video though. 360p looks gross and 720p takes up too much data. I live in Canada (pretty sure we get the worst Internet rates worldwide) so I have a really low data cap.

Yes it's nice that you don't feel that way, but the point is not everybody shares the same perspective, and they're free to express disappointment and concern.

Do we know if The Wonderful 101 uses Miiverse in any particular way?

Most the accused 'negativity' is isolated to threads very specifically about topics that are negatives. Some people aren't happy with the hardware. Some aren't happy with Nintendo's accounts service (or lack thereof). People aren't happy with the launch ports. And they have a right to be. Not everybody is going to be overwhelming optimistic about everything.

It's good that we have threads for those topics to be discussed, as people can do so without clogging up threads like these.

Fair play, there are real negatives worth discussing, but a lot of them were blown out of proportion and they overwhelmed the positive stuff. Reading GAF on Sunday, the launch sounded like a full blown disaster. That was my take on it anyway.

Do we know if The Wonderful 101 uses Miiverse in any particular way?

Nothing's been said. Questions to Kamiya about it get the stock Nintendo ninjas response.

Outside of the trailer and official name announcement in September, we know absolutely nothing.

I assume it will use it in some way since it is first party.

Man, that, Pikmin, and Monsta Hunta by Spring might leave me unable to play other games until 2014.

Just to give people an idea of possible sales or at the very least hype/activity, here are the 10 top Miiverse communities as of this morning:

1. Nintendoland- 28,509
2. NSMB U- 24,970
3. ZombiU- 11,511
4. CoD: BO2- 6,066
5. AC3- 3,282
6. Scribblenauts- 3,049
7. Sonic Racing- 2,812
8. Batman: AC- 2,437
9. Ninja Gaiden 3- 1,931
10. Epic Mickey 2- 1,044

I don't this is worth its own thread or anything, but I find it interesting so I'll probably post numbers in this thread regularly.

EDIT- I do not believe the raw numbers (which I believe are total community messages) has any value in terms of predicting raw sales numbers. I do think the general order might be useful in determining the Wii software sales chart for November.

What does Community Size mean? The amount of posts or the amount of people who have played the game?

Are these numbers a good indicative for sales?

I have no idea, which is why I am just posting them here. The top 4-5 would seem to match up roughly with how sales will play out IMO, so I think there might be some value.

Edit- Obviously I am not suggesting in any way that these numbers will have any correlation beyond a potential rough ranking of how games of selling.

I ordered the Wii U because i wanted to sell it on eBay but then ZombiU and NSMBU looked so good and fun, yesterday when i received it first thing i did was to open it and install it on my TV :p

I must say so far the big problem for me is the OS speed, but im sure it will be fixed in a future update .

Also i'm not too much into social stuff but the MiiVerse is very well done (i was not expecting to like that) i really enjoy reading and leaving comment to other players , this will make things easier to find other players to play with .

So yeah, i am really enjoying it so far .

I think the only inidication is of which games sold the most on launch day. The order in size of communities probably equates to the rank of the games in the Wii U chart.

Pretty much. Not much use just now.
Comparing those numbers to the numbers in a week will be interesting though.
Should be able to use them more in the future to compare release to release.

Whats the Most Popular list on eshop?

Yeah that's all I meant- did not mean to imply that the raw numbers hold any correlation to the actual sales.

Maybe the community size refers to the number who have favourited that community. That's the only metric I can think of which makes much sense. Seems too low for the number of uniques who have posted.

Thanks shuelma, interesting numbers. :)

That's my expectation for NPD-rankings as well.

Wii games really do look better. I was BLOWN away by Xenoblade . I remember that game being blurry and not very detailed. The downside is there are more jaggies but i'll take em'

oh and Skyward sword, epic Mickey, and Super mario galaxy 2 (looks like an HD game to me now) looks great too

Yeah ok. Not only is there no noticeable improvement to Xenoblade or Skyward Sword, the "jaggies" are identical on the Wii and Wii U. There's a difference, but it's not an improvement or downgrade. The colors are different going through HDMI and sometimes they look more "vibrant" and at other times very washed out and actually worse. I only played the Wii through component and never composite.

Random_1: Man, it's too bad the Wii U doesn't make my Wii games look any better. It should!
Random_2: Wow, my TV just said 1080p while playing Wii games through my Wii U and they look absolutely amaaaaazing now!
Random_1: Wow, my Wii games look soooo much better, I can't believe it!

I think it is total number of posts.

It is. It's not a sales barometer, but it is an interest barometer. Mario and Nintendoland are going to automatically have more posts in their communities simply because Miiverse is integrated into those games. Both games ask you while you're playing to post to the Miiverse. That's going to skew things in those games' favor, but I also don't think there's any doubt that by far the most popular games on the Wii U are made by Nintendo. Especially when the vast majority of ports are pretty bad yet Nintendo's own games run flawlessly.

I was surprised to see that many posts in Sonic's game, and then I went there and most posts were along the lines of: "Why can't I beat the boost challenge?!" followed by 5-10 posts from people letting them know the game is broken.

So are people actually using the Pro Controller over the Gamepad? I'm thinking about picking up the Pro Controller today but I don't see a need for it yet. I'd grab it in a heartbeat if it worked with Wii games. :/

Do not buy the PDP screen protectors that they sell at GameStop. Worst screen protector i have ever used.

Hopefully amazon doesnt delay the Hori again

I bought one with that intent, but it felt so cheap that I took it back. Other than size, there was no real advantage to having it over the included gameplad, so I got a refund. If they release one with the buttons above the right stick, I might try again. Or perhaps someone will get an adapter working that will allow the 360 pad to run on the Wii U.

Zombiu is pretty popular tho, given how hard the game is, I think it's impressive.
I never intended to buy nsmbu, but Miiverse is doing a good job advertising it, I might pick it up later.

Is the rumble on anyone's WiiU table really loud? If my volume is at a modest level I just hear a WHHIRRRRRRRR inside.

This. This. This. All of my casual gamer friends tell me they're buying a Wii U after seeing Wii games running on it. They said that because the TV said 720p everything looked clearer and HD. Ugh, people need to learn what upscaling means.

It really reminds of the people who used to buy an HDTV and plug in their 360's with composite cables and would claim how HD their consoles are.

I played Tats vs. Cap yesterday and I didn't really notice much of a difference either.

In other news, Wii games running at the native 480p on my old 35 inch Trinitron actually still look better than trying to play them on a modern television, scanlines and all.

It's still running at 480p so you shouldn't unless you have a TV with a disgustingly bad scaler. My TV has a really good scaler and the way Wii mode looks on Wii U is uglier than how my Wii looks with component cables. Everything looks a bit dull and blacks look grey in comparison. I'm not really sure why (possibly due to limited RBG on hdmi?) but the convenience of having all my Wii stuff on my Wii U makes up for the weird look to it.

Sanctuary

The Wii component cable works with the Wii U. The only tradeoff is audio, if you had yours running to a receiver with an HDMI input. Specifically talking about a fire and forget approach. You can always just use component for the Wii games and then go back to HDMI for Wii U games.

Did Nintendo secretly push out some updates? Reason why I'm asking cause WaraWara Plaza is completely populated with games icons now rather then generic icons and Miis.

Yea the rumble is really loud. I had to turn it off since the pad was rumbling almost non-stop during Black Ops single player.

That happened to me yesterday. I think the OS was just waiting for more high rated MiiVerse posts considering WaraWara Plaza seems to just pull in the highest rated posts for the popular games.

However, TvC already looks very, very pretty! :)

So my quest to figure out how to export screenshots continues. Last night I tried using gmail via the browser, but when I try to attach a file, I got a message from the Wii U OS that "Uploading is not supported."

It's so frustrating seeing the screenshot right there on the screen when I'm browsing, but not be able to do anything with it. Anyone else make any progress with this?

My wife and I bought the WiiU because we play a lot together with our 3yo son. Seeing how much he loves NintendoLand (more than MarioU, which is surprising with him being a huge Mario fan), I bought two more controllers so we can play 5 players matches.

Yesterday we played with my parents. My mom fell in love right away with the system while my dad, who is more a RTS player, had to be convinced to play but had fun at the end. The GamePad had a full charge and my parents left when the battery started to flash.

I was afraid that NL would be tougher to play than Wii Sports by the fact that it's more technical compared to waggle-based gameplay but it was easy to play for everybody.

I imported all the Miis from other systems so we'll be able to track our scores, that will be fun.

So I cancelled my wii u order from toysrus but they still shipped and it and I just rejected it. There's no charge on credit card yet and it shipped and everything on monday, I wonder if they would have charged me.
