Far Cry 3 Review Thread

Don't worry, I am with you. I LOVED Far Cry 2. Such a misunderstood game.
I loved it, and was surprised to see some of the hate it got on gaf. Malaria, gun jamming, vehicle damage, respawning guards made the game harder... yet this place (well, lots of members) routinely complain about games being too easy.

Impressive as hell scores. Didn't expect it to be that good, honestly.

I'll have to see if I can squeeze some extra cash in to my Steam wallet for it before the end of the year I guess. Or just get Dennis to gift it to me with the promise of creating a HUD-less mod. Deal, Dennis?

Very interested in how my crossfire 5850s will perform in this game @1080p. I usually get slightly above 7970s in most reviews with the pair overclocked.

What petition? Pretty sure I complained about it too. Ubisoft just doesn't listen to us.

There, I added your name to the list.

Now any Ubisoft dev reading this thread (you know some do, you don't spend two years of your life on a project and then don't care what the elite thinks of your effort) can see that we want a no HUD option.

Yes, deal.

These reviews are in line with what I was expecting.

Fucking brilliant!

Between this, Absolution, and the Skyrim expansion I'll have plenty to keep me busy until Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite release.

I'm down with a no HUD option.

Also I asked IGN during the stream yesterday if there were a realistic mode that eliminated the bullet sponge enemies but got no response.

If I ever post something in Japanese which I don't understand, please BAN me.

FC 3 was over 3 years in development.

Holy sleeper hit, Batman! Sounds like they actually addressed what was wrong with FC2 and turned a rough diamond into a gem.

Add me to the list.

The problem I have with it is outside of a few select titles the only way I buy PC games is via Steam. With most games my policy is "No Steam, no buy". I don't want yet another client running on top of Steam.
Eh, I used to be the same. I have a few games that pop up a Games for Windows, uplay and Rockstar Social Club... but after a single click I'm into the game. I only have 4GB's of ram, but I doubt their clients are impacting my game that much from what I've noticed.

In Short: Easily the best Far Cry game so far, with a near perfect mix of open world exploration, action, impressively ambitious storytelling, and one of gaming’s best villains.

Pros: A massive open world full of secrets and brought to life by some superb visuals. Wide range of weapons, vehicles, equipment, and unlockable abilities. Surprisingly meaningful storytelling.

Cons: Driving isn’t much fun and although competent the multiplayer options are largely unnecessary.

Very excited to pick up this game. Above everything, I'm excited for the map editor. There was some crazy maps on Far Cry 2.

Walruses, camels, bears, rabbits, tigers and badgers.
This will make for a great Christmas break pickup. After seeing it at E3, I was pretty confident that it would at least be a good game worth a play-through, happy to see it might be even more then that. I just figured though that FC3 was eventually going to be a 2013 title with the December date. When was the last time a video game this major released this late in the year? I can't remember many games being released in December, period.

Damn this game sounds great. Rock Paper Shotgun pretty much sold me on this.
" The result is a little Skyrim-with-guns, yes, but in Skyrim I never caused two bandit jeeps to crash into each other, only to set fire to half of the jeep passengers with the flamethrower, and watch the other half be eaten alive by giant lizards. No, sir."

What is the source for this pic? It must be a mod. I remember someone posting this, and no one could find where they came from.

It's a water shader by xzero who now works at Crytek. I believe it was actually incorporated into Crysis 2 with it's tessellated water. Unfortunately the art style of that game sucks and the water doesn't look as good as the original.

My petition has won its first triumph!

Now if we could only get some confirmation on HUD toggle for the PC version......

There can't be a HUD toggle in the PC version because the RPS review makes a specific point about being unable to turn it down.

Currently polling second in Australia's federal election (first in the Gold Coast), this feral may one day be your Bogan King.
I request more HUDs. Like, a sub-HUD for your HUD.

Here's another review, by Gamereactor (EU version), they gave it a 9/10:

Plus:
+ Beautiful open world + Stunning graphics + Compelling story + Great character progression + Impressive range of content

Minus:
- A couple of minor graphical imperfections - Contrived challenges disrupt immersion (but are still fun)

Viktor Eriksson of the original Swedish site gave it an 8/10: http://www.gamereactor.se/recensioner/79031/Far+Cry+3/?page=2

As for the game, I think it's looks rather nice. What interests me most is the map editor.
