Well zero HUD would actually be bad. I'd like a basic HUD without all the obnoxious "ENEMY RIGHT HERE!!!!!" and "+5000000 XP ULTRA COMBO KILL" shit.
I think what people are asking for is options. A lot of games wisely give you the choice of what parts of the HUD are on/off, which means everybody is happy.

Visually, Far Cry 3 looks sharp, if a bit oversaturated. Running natively at 720p on the Xbox 360, the game looks like it's pushing the limits of the hardware. Though we never had complaints about the frame rate, Far Cry 3 does suffer from visual tearing. It's not enough to detract from the experience, but it is noticeable.

Screen tearing could be a real game breaker for me (The Saboteur on PS3 for instance).
But it is fixable through a patch, right? Just like the 360 version of Darksiders.

Just pre-purchased the Steam Deluxe edition- any words on controller support? I have my brand new PC next to my TV and I'd love to throw in an HDMI cable and plug my controller in.

I don't mind playing it on my monitor either, but I'd prefer TV/controller. Steam page doesn't have the usual Controller Support tag.

Although this article is dated, it appears like it.

Throughout, meanwhile, the Far Cry 3 engine (here running on a PC with a 360 controller attached) excels in its explosions, flames and the way palm fronds are buffeted and burnt by explosions. In fact, it's this that's central to Far Cry 3's most extravagant multiplayer mode. Governmental whispers about Firestorm's abuse of gasoline could cause a panic that'd leave your local petrol station running on fumes for months...

I may hold out until I can find something official because i'd also like to play on my TV from time to time from my PC.

Edit:

More updated answer from a gamespy article:

All of the keyboard and mouse controls are completely remappable. There's gamepad support here as well, but it doesn't activate on the fly -- you'll have to go into the menus to manually enable it. It's a shame you can't just have two control schemes active at once, because I would love to use my controller for the driving sequences and then hot-swap back to my keyboard and mouse running and gunning.

Do you guys think this will be discounted during the Steam Winter sale? I have it preordered, but if it's going to be cut 20% four weeks after it comes out, I think I'll wait.

Hard to say.

Far Cry 2 was like $20 at GameStop a few weeks after release but this is going to be a much bigger seller than that was. You might see 20% off somewhere else but I don't think it'll be that price on steam during the sale.

I don't know man, I feel like there is no hype behind this. Kind of a weird release.

Still concerned that most of the content will be fast food offerings (i.e. competitive multiplayer), instead of co-op and single player.

What the heck do you mean?

Every review has mentioned that it has a substantial single-player component while the multiplayer is nothing to even worth considering.

Ugh, going with 360 for this if I get it, but I'm really worried about the tearing. That PS3 video makes me super queasy. =\

edit:
If you read the comments, the uploader said it could be the capture card and barely noticed it while playing.
Ah, thanks, that's reassuring.

So glad to see this is getting high reviews. I'll be playing Hitman until this comes out, so I'm very contempt, but I cant wait for this game. I'm really exited one of the reviews mentioned a map editor similar to Far Cry 2!! Some people made absolutely ridiculous maps in FC2. My favorite where the puzzle/obstacle course maps.

3 questions:

Does it look good on PS3. Not interested how it looks relative to 360 and PC, but does it look and perform to a competent degree. Is it more UC2 or BlackOps 2?

Are there dense jungle areas?

Is the world fully explorable?

My most anticipated game of the year. Now I just have to decide whether to get it on the PC or Xbox. The controller felt really strange on Far Cry 2 for the PC.

The 360 version of FC2 had very sluggish aim acceleration, so I guess that carried over to PC.

Go for the PC version of FC3.

"Catastrophic Framerate" sounds like a framerate so bad it could end the world.

Thank you PC for bestowing upon us your superior values so we can skip this framerate problems if we so desire :p
Drops beneath 60 fps sure feel like that.

Anyway, the review I quoted was already in the OP. I just translated it, because the score makes no sense if these are the negative aspects.

I had a hard time playing Far Cry 2 on my 360 because it gave me motion sickness. It's one of the very few games that has caused me that.

I'm not actually sure what caused it, but does it look like this issue might have been solved in Far Cry 3?
I'm really looking forward to playing it but I'd like to, you know, be able to play it. :/

Nice touch with the eyes movement. They guy is really looking at my, in my face. Is like his reading me and they are pretty clear too. Also, Vass insanity staring give me hibby jibbies.

It's insane to think that i'm suppose to pay 69.99 euros for a new game here in austria.

I'm going to order it from amazon.co.uk but damn. I hardly ever buy a new games so the shock is there.
