...you wanted to?

So here is the story for anyone who cares.

We were robbed a couple weeks ago and I lost all electronics except for my Wii (added insult), but they took the controllers, power brick etc.

I'm in Target Sunday to get a new PS3, as I figured that would hold me off until next gen systems. They didn't have the PS3 I wanted, just shitty bundles, and then I saw the Wii U. For some reason I thought these were hard to get and I got the idea of a new mario game in my mind and just had to have it.

Now I'm left with a slow ass version of my Wii, at least it plays those Wii games. As an added insult, the new mario game is the old Wii mario game, sigh...

Everything about it sucks, I'll try ZombiU, maybe it will redeem it.

My point was simply that even with the technical issues, people are blowing the problems out of proportion. Saying the game is "crap" and all that. People are acting as if these things keep it from being a good game. That is simply not true, and the Wii U features may be compelling for some people.

Though, I think the game still looks great.

This was my biggest issue with the thread going over the ports. People using words like horrible, crap, etc. The games have technical issues. However the exaggerations people used were not needed at all and have made the games seem a LOT worse then what the actual reality is.

Same feeling here buddy you are not alone. This console is crock of shit till the Nintendo exclusive games come along.

btw does anyone know if Far Cry 3 or Borderlands 2 are coming over? I will rebuy those games if they are better than ps3/360 ports and work on the tablet screen.

not that is one hell of a confusing post!

you want to double dip in software for the pos Nintendo gave you? :p

Seriously we need a check box like Miiverse to see who really owns this thing because you just named two games that GTAV has a better chance beating to the System

Sometimes it's just a matter of wading through the occasional GAF hyperbole.

can't you return it, and get a PS3? I am not sure about return policies but sounds like you did not know what you wanted. PS3 was a better move.

You have my sympathies, but goddamn you really ought to do a little more research before buying a big ticket item. If it costs enough that you might regret buying it, then don't buy it unless you know you won't regret it. Simple.

Like Smiles said, see if you can get a refund.

No man, you have to turn the console on. Just don't look at the cover of the box. Its a different game. Unless you consider all sequels that use the same art style the same game as the one before it.

I find it amusing how the Wii U is treated outside this thread, doing a Wii U thread is like leaving 100 lbs of fresh meat outside of your camp house in a bear-infested forest. :lol

And people think I waste my money. There is nothing sadder than someone spending money on something they cannot enjoy. $300+ is a lot of waste. Evaluate a product before you jump in. Not everything is meant for everyone.

Yeah, that drives me crazy. I love the crap out of Nintendo and want to play their* games, but after gasoline and home heating and electricity and water and mortgage and food and construction materials and wooing ladies, $300 is weeks of salary! I looked at the current offerings, and it is plainly obvious that for my gaming needs, no console currently on the market is yet worth buying. For others, all of them may be worth it, but to impulse buy something before just looking to see if the offered games are strongly compelling is the height of idiocy.

Or at least it's silly.

* and Ubisoft's -- how did they suddenly turn great after so many years of shit?

edit: ced, you can return the old Mario game that you accidentally bought and then buy the new Mario game

I'm a little in awe of how scratched my gamepad's screen is after only a few hours of use; kind of disappointing really.

Aside from that and the super slow/poorly laid out OS, I'm glad with the purchase.

Started console, all fine, except major overscan on my old Bravia S26A10E....

no problems with X360 or PS3. So i am quite pissed off right now.

same. Bought a hori screen protector - first screen protector I've ever felt the need to buy.

Wondering if I should even bother since it's already scratched to all hell, but I might anyway. Not sure why I would have expected that Nintendo would have designed it better... is the 3DS equally scratch prone? Last touchscreen device I've owned from Nintendo was the DS Lite, which I'd have to go look at to see how tore up the screen is after years of use.

Yeah, I refuse to use the stylus until my Hori protectors finally arrive.

Mine's doing ok, and I've used the stylus everyday since launch day, I'm very paranoid so I'm super extra careful with it, though.

can we talk about the vibration in the gamepad. is anyone else's really weak and virtually non existent? I was playing blops 2 last night and the vibrate was a bloody joke. I could hear it whirring but could hardly feel it. my phone vibrates stronger, what the hell...is the vibrate in my gamepad broken?

No, the vibration is like a weak cell phone.

I'm also one of the people that cannot find any of those "technical" issues with the games. One example, in Ninja Gaiden, there were some comments on how the game frame rate dips into "slideshow" whenever an helicopter appears on the second day. Well, I got to that part, and the frame rate keep going stable, through all the stage (unless they where talking about that part when the games enter in slow-motion just before you jump on one of those said helicopters).

Same with FIFA, I had played the PS3 version, see the Xbox version, both 12 and 13 since this is a "12.5", and I cannot see the difference between this and the "proper" 13, but then I haven't played FIFA since '07, so bear with me for that (maybe a longer session will show those differences, I know). All I see while playing is a fluid, solid game, with the usual errors (the haven't fixed the goalkeepers on all these years!) that I see on the other platforms and which I blame on not having enough futbol fans on the programmers' ranks.

I know this and other "positive" post are marked as "defense", but then, you have to consider this: this is machine that equals or surpass the current "hardcore" machines. With the Wii, all the obvious shortcomings where there. Now, they need a microscope to cherry pick the complains (like those "loooooooong" waits for an application to load, which I found in the same league of the PS3, unless of course the HDD is busted, then you know long load times). And I have see cherry-picking: there is a mexican magazine forum, where the "hardcore" would take every single feature and try to turn it over (you got an internet browser, lol!, you paid $300 for something free on the PC, ho!, so you can play with the TV of?, lol!, you paid $300 for a little screen, and you are wasting you TV!, what's that?, are you playing FIFA of you portable HDD? lol!, you paid $300 for playing FIFA from you portable HDD!). It's just annoying.

Eh I canot agree with you for FIFA, I've played the demo on the Wii U and the performance drops are extremely annoying to deal with for anyone that enjoys football games. I do not recommend this version to anybody and this is coming from somebody that has been loving his Wii U since day one so far. That game (or at least its demo) is not fluid at all ...

For the rest of your message, it seems to me that you should do your best to ignore the obvious childish comments while aknowledging the legitimate criticisms.

we live in a time in which everything is either 'amazing' or 'worthless shit'

Eh, I think it has more to do with issues needing to divided on battlelines. Where do you fall? Are you for the Wii U or are you against? Nintendo fans enjoying their Wii U's probably can make a case that some of the critiques can be perhaps a little too negative. All in all, the launch hasn't been stellar and units haven't been flying off the shelves, so some may be looking to strengthen the emerging "Wii U is underpowered and underperforming" narrative because it's the cool thing to do right now

However, look at it from the other side. I think some of us find it a bit tedious when there is interest in legitimate critique of the system, and people just ride in as the Nintendo cavalry to declare any conversation about negative points as unnecessary Nintendo doomsday speculation. "Oh, here we go again. Another 'Nintendo is doomed thread! You'd think people would have learned their lessons after the Wii and DS, but here we are. People just have to hate on Nintendo!'"

This distracts from the fact that -- though sure some people are sitting on the sidelines just enjoying the spectacle and just enjoying anything and everything that puts Nintendo in a bad light -- many complaints are coming from actual owners of the console. I'm perhaps more critical than not of Nintendo these days, but I am a fan, and I do own a Wii U. Honestly, I think there are some causes for concern here, though it's obviously early and there is time to turn things around.

But getting back to the main point is that people tend to see what they want to see. Are you a Nintendo fan in a thread critical of Nintendo? Well, it must be the usual suspects hatin' for no good reason. Are you perhaps down on Nintendo as of late and you run through a string of posts praising the system and downplaying some of the criticisms? Why it must be those Nintendo fanboys who'll defend every bad decision Nintendo will ever make because they're nostalgic manchildren!

That some people are sincere and willing to engage in genuine conversation sometimes gets lost. It doesn't help when people who aren't sincere are dominating the conversation.

The Youtube app is pure junk. Controls are unintuitive as hell and you can't stream to the gamepad. I'll give it credit for the HD videos looking great on the TV, but there's no reason not to use the Browser over this.

I'm surprised at how good Sonic Racing is. Definitely worth the lower price tag.

I find it amusing how the Wii U is treated outside this thread, doing a Wii U thread is like leaving 100 lbs of fresh meat outside of your camp house in a bear-infested forest. :lol

It is not as bad as it was before Launch. I've been here for the whole thing as many of us here have. You should not take the weight of it though. Just enjoy it.

Now that we have Wii U out. There are many negatives about it, the heat is well deserved and Nintendo should listen.

My thing is there is a lot of things the Wii U is doing right and I am really enjoying myself on that side of the fence since I knew this was an investment I would enjoy. But you have to be willing to see the negatives. Some of it is funny because I really enjoy looking at a company that denied the need for online try so hard to play catch up. After all that is what we do on NeoGAF is follow the industry and talk about games.

What people don't understand about the safety of these threads is that this is where people who have followed Nintendo for decades can come to talk about the latest.

People do not understand what a Nintendo fan puts up with. If you suffered through all the shit Nintendo had put you through from N64 and Square Soft going CD exclusive and all the little quirks that kept Nintendo back and separated from SEGA/SONY/MS now you can even call SONY/MS consoles the HD twins and know where you stand with guaranteed 3rd Party Support on both.

Nintendo? I remember get N or get Out... that shit is true but not in the way they meant it.

You just got to love them or hate them a core gamer can't impulse buy a Nintendo product, not the home consoles anyway unless you work in the industry. If you work at Giantbomb and have to suffer the shit because it's your job that is one thing.

Seeing ced pass up a perfectly good PS3 replacement to buy a Wii U make me scratch my head. How are you going to pass up a library of games like that and still think you are going to be happy with money well spent unless you are one of the people in here who has some really strange attachment to Nintendo IPs? Not to lump us all together, I am having a different experience from say EatChildren but he had his reasons for owning a Wii U just like I had mine. So we can put up with Nintendo's shit because we've been here before.

I am having a different experience from a lot of people because I have not played as many games outside of Nintendo platforms. I am not a core gamer, many things are new experiences. I could have spent my money on a 360 or PS3 in November the HD experience would be just as new but I would feel like a fish out of water. It would not be the experience I expected or looked forward to. But when you read GAF everyday you soon know that the world outside of Nintendo is vast and in many ways ahead of them. Most gamers find PS3/360 a better value for good reason. Nintendo is not suddenly going to join the party and make the twins a threesome. So what is being talk about outside this thread is pretty good IMH it is a sign that Nintendo is slowly entering into that market.

Wii U is this generation's late to the party console. SMH but it is very true. All Nintendo Fans should admit the Wii HD should have been done in 2006. I'm not saying Wii U as it is today would not have cost $899 to have done so 2006, but a lot could have been learned from Wii HD that would have made Wii U better so I do understand the flack they are getting coming in late with 2006 issues the other guys have solved and evolved from over the years.

In the end it was a perfect business move for Nintendo to have an SD Wii focus on the Wiimote. I believe the Wii U will prove to be a very smart move for them, if they can also move beyond the growing pain issues and evolve the OS into a smoother faster system. The Wii U is a really good POS for those who know Nintendo, you don't have to love them but you do need to know what you are getting into otherwise you are wasting your time and money, in that respect it does not deserve the hate from you since it was not your thing to begin with.

Gaming Industry discussions like Evilore's warning about Console Wars, Fanboys and such are great ways to keep these forums from turning into shit.

Yet we still fail to point out the only problem Nintendo really has in the industry is that people have not gotten the message. They are not the same as the others as frustrating to long time aged into adulthood fans as this may be. No matter how you try you'll be hard pressed to Twin them with anyone. You can love or hate them but they will never deliver the same experience you got with PS3/360. You can't just trade one for the other and expect to be happy. Not yet anyway.

This is why we see people like Michael Pachter and Nintendo make such an odd match up. Dude keeps thinking he should get the same results out of Nintendo as the other guys and they are crazy not to give it. All of this is still very entertaining to watch. :)

I'm with Hip Hop Gamer on this, you got to have heart. It means you got to enjoy games FIRST people. Know what you love and stick to it. Don't trade your PS3 for a Wii U and call it shit when you did not get what you expected out of it.

Man I could have used the time it took to type this shit out on Miivese, damn you Pikma got me all emotional :p

My Wii U is downloading the update, I only have one step down transformer and my gamepad is about to run out of battery.

Is my Wii U going to continue downloading the update without my gamepad on or is this going to fuck up everything? I really should have got 2 transformers but I thought I would have been fine as the download would appear on the main screen. Apparently it doesn't.

Dunno if it stops the update, but if it happens, the update should resume from were it left off when you restart it later.

Well I'm getting a flashing light now, so I guess this will be an experiment for future generations.

Hopefully I can do the update install with just a wii remote since I'm going to have to totally unplug my system to charge the gamepad

And now you know the pain of a Vita owner

your PAIN is far far worst. You have a perfectly awesome sexy platform that the company is not willing to back fully. I think the Vita will come around in the next few years if Sony survives the games have been announced the only issue is not enough exclusives it shares a lot of those titles with PS3 versions.

Just don't lose power on your console during Installs that would be bad. Gamepad out of juice should be a none issue

I think that a big part of there not being a ton of multiplats announced for Wii U is the lack of middleware. It's just too much work to get stuff up to par with PS360 right now; Nintendo probably also wants gamepad features in their ports.

Not sure if that will change either, but the time tools mature those two platforms may have gone bye-bye. MS has all of one 1st party 360 game announced for next year, they seem ready to move on just like they did with Xbox.

That said, there's more than enough for any sane person to play through.

i'm just really curious but do you intend to keep doing this forever? i mean why don't you have a second outlet?

I'm going to get one, but I thought it would be a non issue initially since the battery life of the pad is meant to be anywhere between 2-5 hours. It seems mine didn't come fully charged like I'd hoped. I've got a Japanese Wii U in the UK and until now I've never imported a proper console, sooo I only have the one transformer atm.

Systems still running fine, Wiimote synched up so hopefully I can order it to do the update when it's done with the Wiimote.

Only issue I have now is the download bar didn't move onto the TV, so I can't tell how long the download has left :p

Then you just aren't sensitive to it. Ninja Gaiden's framerate is absolutely horrible. If you don't notice it in this game, then good for you, but it is terrible for those who are. It just means you don't notice extreme framerate problems.

The framerate in this game runs sub 60 for the majority of the game. It was even dropping framerate just walking through the Hayabusa village with nothing at all going on. It's dreadful and I'm surprised people are saying otherwise.

Haha you're totally right, couldn't have said it better, Nintendo is sometimes shit, they take some questionable decisions, they try to rip off some people every now and then, but the truth is that I like their platforms and some of their IPs plus sometimes they get wacky and desperate so they give us 20 free games, or S&P2, Xenoblade (after begging them for some time of course), I'm not a diehard, and actually find it very easy to criticise them, but I like what they bring to this industry so that's why I sometimes give them my money. :p
And now you know the pain of a Vita owner

It's not a pain, it's kinda funny, because you see the same arguments being brought up from both sides, every time. I'm on Vita's side too, don't own one yet, but I really wish it can recover because it's a very promising platform.

Stop It

Perfectly able to grasp the inherent value of the fishing game.
Just went to the eShop and it said that it is currently undergoing maintenance! Raaaaaaymaaaaaaaaaaaan :D

Hoping for at least a demo or two (Rayman Legends for one) to pop up when it comes back. Only having Fifa on there is a bit of a joke really.

Also, when did the tooltips appear on the UI (Like when you click settings or Miiverse it now gives an explanation of what they are at the top), stealth updates?
