This change actually doesn’t prevent anyone from getting to the content they want to see. So, if you search for explicit content, you’ll be able to find it -- just make sure your query reflects this intent, and Google will show the most relevant content for the search.

You can set it to "On" or "Less On", but not "Off".

Yes.. because safe search off doesn't actually blacklist anything legal.

Here's likely what they did:

- Google already flags images in their DB as NSFW
- Google also has a list of search terms that are also flagged as NSFW
- However, a NSFW image might fit a search term that isn't flagged NSFW.
- With the old system, searching for that "safe for work" term would reveal NSFW images that fit the term.
- Now to find the NSFW images you have to use a keyword on their NSFW list, or at the very least, they won't be given priority, and you'd have to scroll farther down.

The goal being to make it so people can leave SafeSearch set to "off" but not have to worry about finding pornography images in their results.

Say you have an image that is of a "Girl in a car fucking the e-brake."

The old method might show that image if you searched for "girl in a car."

The new method forces you to add the word "fucking," but you'll still get the result.

Whereas with safesearch set to "on", you could type "girl in a car fucking the e-brake" and wouldn't get the image.
