Wii U Japanese Launch: 308,570 systems sold, Mario leads with 170,563 copies

No, I was serious. The Japanese buy everything Monster Hunter still, right?

That's a simplification of things like saying the Americans buy everything Call of Duty. But this basically is the 3rd version of this game (4th if you include P3rd but they're pretty different) of a series that has its popularity come from being on portables. If you're looking for a way to explain the actual good hardware sales NSMBU is far more likely to be the cause.

I'll take Famitsu's word over yours.

So believe Famitsu, then.

Famitsu Oct 1-7, 2012

23./00. [360] Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (Bethesda Softworks) - 4,192 / 58,235
26./00. [360] Forza Motorsport 4 (Microsoft Game Studios) - 4,080 / 31,189

After both having been out of the Top 30 since launch ~1 year earlier. Coincided with the new 360 Holiday bundle, which included a Skyrim download card and Forza 4.

Famitsu Oct 29-Nov 4, 2012

21./00. [3DS] Monster Hunter 3 G (Download Pack) (Capcom) - 6,044 / NEW

3DS LL bundle with MH3G download.

There are many more 360 "long leg" sales that directly coincide with that software being bundled with the hardware, along with Wii Sports Resort continuing to track relatively high as a Wii hardware bundle.

Edit:
Either, the ultimate proof that Famitsu does count bundles for software lies with Wii Sports Resort.

Edit:
I asked Yoshi Mills at Famitsu - apparently - they do not, but Yoshi is double checking for me

They requested sales figure providers to not include some time ago (apparently) . You can believe that if you want, you can check my twitter feed where you can see the first few exchanges with Yoshi.

Not concrete admittedly but curious to know what the deal is. End of the day it's retailers sending in figures under instruction, so god only knows.

Oh, that's probably why the change in thinking, then. Either Yoshi is mistaken or the retailers are sending it in, anyways. The bundled download titles would be a clear giveaway, though.

I'm wondering, how good exactly was the marketing or this? Can Japan Gaf speak out on how good or bad it was? I remember there was that super wii commercial but it seemed pretty bad

I dislike this argument. Software from established franchises sell poorly all the time. To focus on the 3rd version of Orochi and dismiss Monster Hunter selling better than any 3rd party launch game on a console last gen strikes me as being pretty selective.

Nintendo games don't count!
Non-games don't count!
Square-Enix games don't count!

Ah, the old days..

If you o someone has PM'd them and they still haven't (the Orbis/Durango thread got updated), may be worth just making a new thread.

Yeah. I'm not a sales-ager much, or I would make a new thread. New thread for new news and all of that. It may be a good idea to include historical tie-ratios/hardware as well.

@ntheweird Strange question : do you know if Famitsu software sales include hardware bundles? e.g. GT5 PS3 pack? :) Many thanks

@DCharlieJP I forgot the Rule since I'm not marketing guy. My opinion is software sales rank should count just sw sales.(Bundle is hardware)

@ntheweird cheers ! I'd heard the same from other people too - but i hear something different elsewhere. Thanks! :D

@DCharlieJP Announcement/press release like "** sold half mili" sometime count bundles. Cheap number trick. #Generally_in_industry

@ntheweird yeah, my thought was Famitsu numbers were raw software figures - no bundles. Someone is telling me otherwise, but i'm not sure

Guessing he had more to say away from Twitter, then? From Twitter, it was just his opinion on bundles and not his department. GT5 bundle is actually a really strong example to show that Famitsu was including bundles, at the time. Weekly sales dropped to essentially nothing at the same time as the bundles ran out.

Nice numbers! I wonder if the lower end stuff also saw a ~10k bump?
It seems to apply to the main Nintendo titles the most. I wonder if Famitsu felt they under estimated the Nintendo titles to begin with and then ajusted it (Famitsu tracks 53% of the market or something, while the rest is estimated).

And even i am moderately surprised

we took it to PMs but nothing came back - as he says, he's not a market guy and i think from other evidence it's pretty clear they -are- included.

i've already said that it was poor - but the sales figures in the face of that are -exceptional- but... of course ... the usual #fingerwag wankery from the usual dickheads (though my 280k prediction didn't help (i actually pointed out elsewhere that this was a slip and i meant 480k the same day, but hell, lets stick with it - no use arguing that toss). You can believe what you want - the campaign has been poor, preorders did not sell out, units have not sold out and are readily available the visibility poor and we STILL don't have demo units.

But with that in mind - the sales have been fantastic in a context of the campaign that they've ran and congratulations are in order. The numbers are good at a base level, but in light of it being near as damn it a soft launch as it could be? they yeah, the figures are excellent.

(as per other thread, got my MH Ltd edition bundle yesterday with Mario and Nintendoland)

Wastes hours checking old Famitsu software data, but that's why we love him.
So first shipment was what, about 345k?

I think I read there will be some sort of restock but 2nd week numbers will still be pretty low, just like Wii in 2006.

The Yodobashi Camera by my house had black and white Wii Us on the shelf yesterday. Not sure if they're still there, but considering they had none on Sunday, gonna assume they got some kind of restock.

And the black Wii U is/was in stock on amazon today.

listen to the mad man

it was a meme in the 2008 democratic primaries among frustrated hillary supporters, which carried over to the general. any piece of news, whether it was positive or negative for obama, was billed as "bad news for obama" because of <tortured logic x to prove that hillary was the only acceptable nominee>

holy crap, was that where it started? i thought it was just a 2012 general election thing.

It sold out again. Next shipment is due on the 20th.

Nintendo >_> Where is all there stock going considering Europe seemed to get the short end of the stick and they were supposed to have 3.5 million out before the end of the year.

Same here. Although I guess the news media replaced hilary supporters this time.

North America? Seems to be in stock everywhere...either there is little interest or good supply.

I would say maybe, pretty close. I know some retailers have had 5+ shipments.

~2mil America
~1+mil Europe
~1+mil Japan

This is plausible by the end of the month.

I doubt Europe gets a million. American and Japan seem to be the focus.
Premium - 50%
Basic - 25%
MH Bundle - 25%

Still don't even think basic should exist anywhere without Nintendoland packed in. The really interesting thing though in Japan is that its the same price as a Vita.
