Hahah merry Christmas everyone. Sucks that those marines probably ruined a Guy's life who was already desperate enough to steal.

almost lost the damn game too, until the very end.

randomrosso, that's fucked up. my advice, convince your sis to leave him. it'll happen again and again. it's a never ending cycle. she needs to get the fuck out of that relationship asap. think of the unborn child too, growing up around domestic violence is hell. sad thing is he or she may even think its normal and will end up with an abusive partner in their future.

---

that said, same applies to guys with abusive gf's too though. yes, sometimes its the other way around

Apparently people have found a way to make Giant or Mini Flood with a few hex edits. Also here are apparently some hidden game options

Observer team, automatic team balancing, player glow, traits given to X number of players, teams sharing lives, grenade regeneration, new round cleanup settings, weapon rate of fire/damage rate, strafing speed, waypoint style, and the list goes on.

Weapon Rate of Fire/Damage makes complete sense, because Campaign works that way.

The Railgun has an increased available "holding" time for charges in Campaign compared to Multiplayer.

The Light Rifle can still pop shields of enemies on Legendary in 4-5 shots much like a regular player, even though it does the same on lower difficulties.

I think I actually prefer it this way: rather than ramp up health and shielding to ridiculous extremes like in past games (with Reach's Elite Zealots, particularly with Mythic/Tilt on in my opinion, being the worst offenders), they provided actual strengths and weaknesses per individual weapon, similar to Halo CE. Note how a Suppressor is the most effective (basic) Promethean weapon against Prometheans, much like how plasma weapons did extra damage to Covenant in the original game!

A lot of those looks like remnants from 3/Reach that still exist in those games

Still think it would be cool if 343 would release a gametype maker that had extra options and downloaded to our fileshare after we made it......you know before the modders do.

Yeah, I always wanted that, a bit surprised it didn't happen. Online gametype editor that you could use to make gametypes. It'd keep everything inside their walled garden while letting you quickly customize and make games.

So I got the Halo 4...guide thing. Whatever it is. The book with the MC and the Didact's cryptum on the cover. In the back are interviews with several members from 343 Industries. An enlarged, key quote from Scott Warner – "Within the Halo sandbox, I think we managed to create another 30 seconds of fun" – caught my eye, so I read his first. The interview provided some...interesting insights into the development process behind the campaign. I'll post the most fascinating things below:

"And if you were to look at what the big changes from previous Halo games are, it's the introduction of the new race, and our decision to move away from over-emphasizing huge combat spaces – like the ones you see in Halo 3 and Reach – in exchange for bringing some more tight linear environments back into the game. When you go back to the first Halo, there are many fantastic fights, like the one out of Pillar of Autumn, that are really excellent because they are more linear and tight."

"Another area of the game that we explored early on but ended up backing away from, was the idea of having major setpiece moments that didn't interrupt the sandbox."

"We started with the multiplayer first in establishing the overall sandbox balance, and then applied that back into the campaign."

In response to the question of what he would most want to improve for the next Halo:

"Our resistance to change. Now that I've gotten to the end of this, my perspective has changed completely from being very faithful to the original games, to I'd love to do a lot more original stuff. To feel less precious about what existed before, because I think it's inhibited us in some ways. Now, I think we can go anywhere with it creatively. And we should."

Edit:

On the thing he's most proud of in the campaign:

"The Prometheans, because we created a brand new race that's interesting to fight against and feels really fresh. Within the Halo sandbox, I think we managed to create another '30 seconds of fun.' I think we addressed some of the concerns that existed with the Flood, in terms of them being one-dimensional, and also gave us another tool help avoid player fatigue."

Someone called lordcrusnik1986 had it on his fileshare along with a slayer mode where everyone has Grunt Birthday on.
Yeah the guys at Se7ensins are really going to town on the gametype modding this time round.

However, they may as well be unused settings removed from gametypes and don't work.

I have a good idea of where observer setting is located. I'll keep you all posted.
If any of these that he mentions can be successfully edited, things could get very interesting.

Also, Merry Christmas!

Oh god, Halo 5's lead up to launch should be really interesting.

Why not call it something other than Halo if they don't want to make Halo games? I mean, fuck.

I...think I might need to pick up this guide. Every time someone posts quotes from it my mind is slightly more boggled.

Needless to say, I'm very interested in seeing the contents of Warner's GDC talk on the Prometheans. I hope its a real post mortem style talk that acknowledges the issues with what they created, but that quote doesn't really give me that feeling.

Love these behind-the-scenes insights.

Not typing out the full thing, but their mission design process had them essentially breaking up into groups – mission designer, audio designer, engineer, environment artist – and come up with a pitch for a mission that they would then present to the core team. If that got approved, the same team went back and did the following:

1. Blocked out basic geometry to get a sense of level and spatial relationships.
2. A stage called "mass out," where the artist goes in and does a first pass on all geometry in the level.
3. At the same time as mass out, they start placing all their gameplay elements to see how they work.
4. Designer will iterate on gameplay until they like what they have.
5. Artist gets the level to flesh out the visuals.

Very cool. I've only read Warner's interview so far, but it's great, and I love all these cool BTS bits. If you're a fan of Halo 4, I recommend picking up this book for the interviews alone. Can't wait to go through all of them. There's one for Frankie, Kiki, Bonnie, Bryce Cochrane, Kevin Franklin, Chris Haluke, Kenneth Scott, Josh Holmes, and Christopher Schlerf.

Here's some more quotes.

"The studio was never good at Firefight, so we decided to make Spartan Ops."

"We really thought that the Call of Duty fanbase would appreciate the changes, and when you're in a 10 year relationship, it's hard to call it quits, so we know we at least had the initial sales of the hard core fans."

"We outsourced a lot of the jobs to other studios so we could blame it on them when Microsoft came knocking."

Looks like I got salt for Christmas.

Happy holidays anyway everyone!

I always hope that my jokes are alleviated by the fact I really do care about the franchise. I wouldn't still be here if I didn't, and I certainly wouldn't be helping with a Halo site, creating content, and constantly wishing the best for the series.

I realize GAF probably isn't best suited for my style of posting, but I'd like to think I'm familiar with most of the regulars by now that they understand that.

So, sincerely happy holidays everyone! I'm gonna hop on for a few slayer matches if anyone wants to play in about 15 minutes. <3

PS:

RIP Halo
