Ni No Kuni Collector's Edition for EU/NA [failure level well beyond critical mass]

Is there any reason nobody is ordering from Game? http://www.game.co.uk/en/ni-no-kuni-wrath-of-the-white-witch-wizards-edition-180778?pageSize=20&searchTerm=ni%20no%20kuni

They deliver worldwide. Mine cost £74.99, including shipping. Did I make a mistake ordering through them?

I don't know if they're too bad, but for what it's worth I ordered something (international) for quite a high price from them and they haven't even put tracking on it, so that could be £200 down the drain for me unless they pay some compensation (but apparently I'd have to wait until the end of Jan for it to turn up before I can complain, that's 45 days after it apparently shipped).

They also flaked out on me when I ordered The Last Story Limited Edition. I think that was when they went into receivership or something though.

I think maybe nobody had mentioned them before because it wasn't available to order there before? I seem to remember checking their site and not finding a listing for it, or being able to add it to my cart at any rate.

Isn't that the same retailer that almost imploded this year in a spectacular fashion?

I'm pretty sure they did implode. But they restructured and are under new management now.

As far as no tracking #s goes, I've ordered a few things from Europe via amazon, and they don't use tracking #s either unless you go for the global priority shipping (£10-15). So I wouldn't hold that against Game.

I'll stick with my order and see how it goes. :-/

Indeed. However, I'm surprised they don't offer the option for high value orders, especially considering their help section states that orders over £100 have to have tracking (mine was nearly double that). I'll always pay more to have something tracked especially if it's valuable, but Game doesn't even offer that. It cost me £10 to get the same thing shipped from Amazon on 2-4 day shipping (had to order another one as it was a Christmas present) and it was a heck of a lot cheaper! Given the chance I would have easily paid another fiver to get Game to do the same! And so far their CS have been worryingly apathetic :(

Oh and they charge VAT, which sucks :(

/rant, lol

Hm, considering importing a copy via GAME now, since Digital River doesn't want me to have the North American one I ordered. Wouldn't be able to get any of the DLC, but might be worth it for the book. Hmm.

I can't even get a straight answer out of them.

Both responses to my question were bullshit template responses that only barely related to my original issue.

they fucked up my preorder bonus for Phoenix Wright way back at Capcom shop and the only way you can make any progress is to call them. don't bother with emails. even when i called, they had some confusion on the preorder process so expect maybe a clueless person on the line. they eventually got my bonus for me which was annoying.

Yeah, I know I'll have to end up calling eventually. I just don't get how they're lacking the most basic of internet retailer functionality. Address changed? Can't help you, cancel order. Credit card stolen or changed? Can't help you, cancel order. It's beyond ridiculous.

I had e-mails work once... when I threatened to report them to the Better Business Bureau.

Your right, paying extra for tracking is worth it for the piece of mind. I ended up changing to Shopto because they offer tracking for £5 extra.

Namco updated their image of the US CE on their shop website. Now, it includes images of the gold coin, prints and soundtrack that will be included with those who preordered the US Wizard Edition.

Very nice. Looking forward to receiving the LE.

How come Europe isn't getting these :(

Because Europe.

I know the feel man.

I asked on Twitter and got this answer:

@HollieB (Namco Bandai UK community manager) said:
we don't have a store like them (shipping, stock issues etc) & they only 7000 units for the whole US. We decided to make more for EU

So I guess the extra stuff is basically to get the Americans to buy from them instead of reverse importing from Europe.

O__o but can you actually order it? It's been many months since orders were cut off, why even bother updating the image? it's not like that is going to... increase sales? Because that's impossible since they aren't making more available. Still infuriates me.

Just cancelled my UK preorder and buying normal edition. Hate getting screwed over by things missing in LE.
Really looking forward to this though.

I hate that we're missing out on the other stuff in the EU limited edition, mainly because I love soundtracks. It would have been nice if they could at least include a download code for the soundtrack in the EU, then there's no cost to adding it :(

Still, I shouldn't complain since I've pre-ordered it and got it much cheaper than the regular £70

I think it for the us (those who preorder it) and to show us how the bonus items will look. I do wish that they would provide more for people who wasn't able to preorder it awhile back. To be honest, that's why I sometimes have issues with extremely limited items (i.e. Mondo Posters, The Final Fantasy Sky artbook, portal guns, etc,.) because it doesn't help those who are fans of those particular properties and not able to get in on the exclusivity before its too late.

I'd have to agree I find the whole "collector" mentality pretty annoying. First4Figures comes to mind along with the ones you mentioned. I understand not mass producing things due to license restrictions and devaluing the whole line so it doesn't become the next Star Wars with overly whored out products. But making it so limited that you alienate the real fan base is shitty. I'm guessing we'll see a ton of these on Ebay, if I didn't love Ghibli so much I'd skip it all together.

Might have to eBay that wizard book at some point, but I really wanted the steel case. It will look nice by my other steel case games, like Metroid Prime Trilogy and Final Fantasy 12.

I agree that making something extremely limited that is easily snatched up by Ebay sellers purely to make a quick profit is sickening [to say the least], but in this case, you can't really be mad at those people selling their copies on Ebay. Considering this game was made-to-order and not a set amount, any copy that may be listed on Ebay is either that individual's only copy or one that he/she purchased as an "extra" through the website. That copy wouldn't have existed otherwise if they didn't purchase it [since Namco Bandai only made as many Wizard's Edition as there were pre-orders], so you can't really be upset at him/her.

Now, them selling it at an extreme cost [for example, three-times its original value], that's something you can be upset about. :)

BTW, the guide is now available for pre-order at Amazon:

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/030789598X/?tag=neogaf0e-20

$26.39 + shipping. It also, of course, comes with the Golden Hurley familiar.

I just pre-ordered my copy, but will cancel when [and if] it becomes available on Amazon.ca. I don't know why, but I get the feeling this guide will become rare in the near future.

hah, nice. if only they did more DLcs like that for other guides then i would be buying a lot of those.

Awesome, thanks for the heads-up. I noticed the guide the other day but thought that Amazon had already sold out their initial allotment and that d have to purchase the book at full price from GameStop. Glad that I won't have to do that.

You're very welcome guys [and/or gals], I'm glad I could help!

Yeah, say what you want about DLC, but having something like that come as a little "bonus" along with the guide, is always welcome. If anything, it's a nice incentive to purchase the guide. ^_^

If you get a familiar via pre-order, do you start the game with it, or what? I wouldn't want to ruin the beginning game experience. Any thoughts on which pre-order familiar is better and why?

ULTROS!

People seem to like me because I am polite and I am rarely late. I like to eat ice cream and I really enjoy a nice pair of slacks.
Just reposting:

Hey guys, I'll be doing the OT and I've been sorta busy recently so I need 1-2 collaborators. I still will be dedicated to doing the OT though. Anyone wanna volunteer? Just hit me a PM. It'll be awesome if one can write content and another one can do graphics.

I'm just sticking with the CE. And I never use guides unless I'm stuck so I just go online for that if I can't figure it out myself.

And I honestly don't like gold. I'm more a silver person. But I would rather not have my familiars being one color. Would be awesome if the codes went for anything like those RDR codes did before it died down and you could get them for really cheap on ebay. =P

I have been buying old guides off ebay just to complete collections. But I've bought a few collector ones at launch Dark Souls to be specific which I never regretted. I hardly use them to help with the game I like the art work.

Ugh, man. I thought I had made my peace with the fact that I am not getting the North American Wizard's Edition, then they had to go and post pictures of the Ninostarter extras. Really want that soundtrack :-( Fuck Digital River, and Namco Bandai for using them. Almost hoping that this game doesn't live up to expectations, so I won't feel so bitter about this credit card bullshit. :p

(952) 392-2057 - I got this contact number from a Namco email rep, and was finally able to reach an agent who took down my updated billing info and assured me my order would be updated system-wide within 3 days.

You might get a rejection initially. Just mention that others have done it. If they can't fulfill your request, just call back a few minutes later and speak to someone else.
