Samurai Spirits (Samurai Shodown) RPG

I own the Neo Geo CD version, played it somewhere around 2004, but never got far. The loading times are from hell, but the game has style.

My Japanese is getting rusty. Has anyone here ever beaten that game? Is it good? I'm considering playing it with a walkthrough.

It feels like the most exotic RPG ever.

All I got for the Vernal Equinox was this stupid tag
I never did complete the entire game, but I did beat the first quest (SS1) and played a bit into the second (SS2) years before I studied Japanese. It's a pretty straight-forward and short RPG...you should really only need a FAQ for some of the item names, IIRC.

The game is best on Neo CD BTW.

That's just because it never got translated.

There was a long-time Neo-Geo community member who started translating it, but he quit doing so and never updated anyone as to how far he got on it.

I'm surprised no one else ever tried.

I had this on saturn, one of the most beautiful 2d games ever! And some of the backgrounds have a great dark FFVI kinda mood. A shame i couldn't go far in japanese :p

i remember reading that this game was to be released on psx, many years ago. i was so excited to read that, but it never happened, at least not in the US :(

one day, some brave soul will release a translation patch. one day.

The romhacking/translation people are a strange bunch. They will spend a decade translating something that's already in english on multiple systems and yet ignore other stuff. :\

Deuce has been working on a translation for many years now. It's mostly finished, except for the cutscene stuff. It's been years since he has updated though.

The best way to play it is in NeoRaine. Zero loading time.

I don't know about that, unless most JRPGs have all-kanji menus... isn't this game uncommon in that respect?

I followed that shit since it was talked about in GameFan back in the day. I remember when some cat from one of those fan translation teams was talking to some of the techies on Neo-Geo.com to get some help with coding when they were disassembling the ISO. They even showed some screens of Ukyo talking to Haohmaru in english.

NOTHING came of it. Either for the Neo CD or the Saturn.

I was ready to buy a Neo CD the second someone was able to have it translated. Between SSRPG, Pulstar, and Brikinger, that would have been worth it for me to own a Neo CD.

It's obvious SNK has no plans to port this game ever again or translate it to English so I wish they'd just license it for peanuts so some ambitious person can take on the project and put it up for sale on Steam or consoles. There's way too many games like this that just fade to obscurity, but don't need to.

I own the Saturn version and I am enamored by the pixel art. But the load times are killer on that system too... here's hoping that one day the translation gets finished.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!

Yea, I also only tried it on Saturn and never played far due to the horrific loading. Always wanted to play a translated hack out of curiosity though.

I thought it was exclusive to Neo Geo CD.

The Bump of The Dead: Die Like Thread Did?

For a tiny fraction of a second, I got excited because I thought that someone was mentioning that this game got translated, and I could finally, FINALLY play it.

But its translated for a language that I don't know. :(

Don't even wanna play this anymore. I haven't enjoyed JRPGs since the PS1 days, and this probably wouldn't change that.

I'd rather have another Samurai Shodown / Last Blade fighter, but 2D fighters don't happen anymore, either. :(

That game would be a must have as a PSN/XBLA classic. Better than another release of early NG games...

I would purchase it day 1. Of course, I have long thought that PSN/XBLA needs more RPG titles. You have to put the old content in front of consumers if you wish to revive the genre at some point.
