I only care about Relic.

On that note, what happens with the Warhmmaer IP? Games Workshop owns it and only license it to THQ, so I assume that means that the license is new open to anyone outside of the THQ bidding process?

Generally any license will revert to the owner in the case of a bankruptcy, and they can inherently do whatever they like with it at that point since they own the license.

Maybe Creative Assembly can get a fourth team going!

Yeah, the only reason this didn't happen for Midway was because only two companies bought any assets: EA (only a couple like NBA Jam and NFL Blitz) and Warner (they bought everything else with zero opposing bids).

Microsoft bought Hydro Thunder, too.

Warhammer in their hands would be interesting for sure, but then again Sega owns them, and they seem like they're in line somewhere behind THQ to the grave.

Being auctioned off piece by piece? Fuck man, sad times :( Was hoping THQ would be able to pull off a survival.

As long as the development teams and IP are purchased together, and as long as EA get fuck all, it's okay... i guess.

That's a shame, but it's not terribly surprising. They were never going to be allowed to screw creditors that badly with all of those assets.

It is such a shame this is happening, I loved THQ and pretty much all their games. One good thing that I hope comes out of this is that the Red Faction franchise gets used for new games and that the Geomod technology gets used in more games.

So who is to blame. Udraw? The funny thing is udraw initially i think wasnt selling that bad. If they have kept it on wii and developed some games for it now they might have good games to up-port to wiiu.

So there's now effectively zero chance of THQ remaining as a company, as they'd intended to do with this disputed deal?

As bad as the WWE engine is I dont think EA will make a better game

I don't think they could either. Granted it has taken Yukes this long to make a respectable WWE game and now in 2013 there probably won't be a WWE game unless its Yukes at the helm and we will be starting all over again with feature sets. Not fun.

Someone could buy all their assets if they bid high enough, but that will be much harder now that the questionable barriers were removed and companies can bid on whatever assets they want for a potentially large sum.

I mean, EA and Warner aren't exactly push overs in an auction.

THQ is already effectively dead.

I mean for the plan that would have kept old THQ's studios operating. Will the isolated buyers even want to let the studios finish the products they are working on or will they just gut them and create their own teams to work on the IPs at some undetermined future date?

I guess the only thing we can do now is pray each IP ends up with a well-fitting home.
Vigil,Relic, Volition, Montreal's announced project and whatever Turtle Rock is working on would be up for grabs too.

Would this piecemeal sale effect anything that is on its way out soon (South Park,Metro)? I'm just wondering if we will see any delays or box art changes on upcoming releases or all profits from these games will go somewhere else.

Can we get a play by play of the auction? I'll get the pop corn ready.

Curious to see how quickly this process happens. Does it take place over a number of days or will we know where the various IPs end up fairly quickly?

I assume the licenses like WWE and Warhammer will revert on that day as well. Where WWE ends up will be big news. Gonna miss that THQuality.

Generally speaking THQ's remaining developers are extremely well regarded in the industry, so publishers would almost assuredly want most of the studios.

I would think it would be same day, but I could be wrong.

So how will this affect a project like Patrice's new game? I mean is it viable if a new company picked it up and continue financing it?

Yeah.

As an unproven studio with a large hiring commitment, it's probably the most tenuous studio, but it's also in Montreal, which helps it a lot.

A lot of time for Publishers to decide if they are going in or not for the THQ's IP's... I think it is going to be war that day.

I would not make general statements like this regarding bancruptcy law and IP law. Very confusing and complex thematic. Exclusive, irrevocable licenses for example may be handled very differently.

Having a sinking feeling that the "bad" ending for Freespace 2 is going to be very apropos for Volition soon. Alpha One doesn't look like he's making it home this time (proverbially speaking).

I'm just hoping EA or Acitivision doesn't end up with Relic and Homeworld/Company of Heroes or Metro. I like Red Faction and Saints Row as well but i don't think it would be quite as easy to ruin those.

Was the split with Ubisoft on good terms? If yes, than I wouldn't be surprised if Patrice and his team goes back there. Square Enix or Warner would be another possibility.
