Hideki Kamiya annoyed on twitter, tells fanboy to use his own brain

I think Kamiya is allowed to not like playing games on a certain system for whatever reason he decides.

I don't think anyone has a right to tell him otherwise, or insult him for it when his comments were pretty plain as day and not a slight at the system itself. Even if it were some sort of childish slight, I'm pretty sure the PC won't be shedding a tear anytime soon so all the fan-wank nonsense needs to stop.

yeah this is fair, to be honest the behaviour from him I was characterising as dickhead stuff was the later commentary but that was also a reaction to the cock-jockey bullshit from my more obsessively defensive pc comrades. cooler heads must prevail if we're ever going to end this cycle of gamer on gamer violence.

When asked about Steam and PC gaming, Kamiya replied on character limited Twitter that he doesnt know much and PC gaming isn't for him.

The damage is on insecure PC gaming pushers to make that response into "him being a complete dickhead", or for a fucking shameful article from cuntrag Kotaku to flesh out a full fictional agenda for the man.

Kamiya is the game design guy. He creates these ideas, his coders and team make them reality. If the more business minded head Inaba says "dudes we're going PC with this one" Kamiya will roll with it. For his personal gaming tastes he clearly just enjoys consoles a whole lot more and the ease of use they provide. Can't fault the man there. Just one display driver fuckabout for some people is one too many.

But the Kotaku article doesn't say that. Actually, your post--and every post slamming Kotaku--appears not to have read anything other than the headline (which, yes, is bad). Seriously, how many people here actually read the fucking article?

The article itself says "Western readers might find it weird that Kamiya says he doesn't know much about PC gaming. Thing is, PC gaming isn't really a big deal in Japan. Most big PC titles aren't released there, Valve/publishers treat Japan poorly (can't get most PC games in Japanese, etc. Kamiya also expresses distrust in the cloud. This makes sense--Japanese culture tends to prefer physical media to digital media. The end."

There's literally nothing wrong with the article beyond its headline. It ends without making a judgement either way, basically saying "he's typical of many people in Japan. It is what it is." I'm fairly certain that Eisenbeis, iirc, has lived in Japan for quite some time.

If anything, the only people it makes look bad are people who won't even release their games in Japan in Japanese.

The piece is actually pretty informative, and anyone making PC games who wants their stuff to show up in Japan should, after reading the piece, have a greater idea of how to better appeal to the market. As someone who's always wondered why PC gaming never really took off in Japan, this was an interesting introduction to the subject.

Also, Kotaku didn't set this off. Kamiya was being a dick about PC gaming last night, judging by some retweets that popped up in my feed. Kotaku, if anything, cherrypicked the most innocent tweets.

I stopped following him a while back. Only worth following if you can read Japanese and want to get nostalgic about about old Famicom games and shit. Otherwise it's just a bunch of Twitter spam of him saying the same thing over and over again to people asking him the same questions over and over again.

sorry, can you guys show me where kamiya said that he doesn't play pc games because of display driver issues or is franks and beans just projecting his own fearful ignorance because he has a chip on his shoulder?

I can wait.

He doesn't play most modern games.

Kamiya is just a guy who enjoys making his games while playing his favorite ones.

If you ask him or comment about either one of these topics he'll give you a good answer.

Unfortunately internet communities (such as this thread) have attached this "MASTER TROLL" persona to his responses on his account. and like any joke on the internet, leave it to the internet to run it into the ground.

I have no idea why he responds to every idiot trying to be a comedian, but he does.

He is a repulsive and obnoxious most of the time. Nothing new because he thinks the world of himself so not sure why ppl are surprised.

Nah. That's just the internet persona people have attached to him.

He just responds to alot of the same questions the same way(mostly to fit in character limit with the unique way he quotes tweets) which when discovered was hilarious to alot of people on the internet.(myself included. It stopped being funny when people, some from this very thread, started sending him messages with no other purpose than to solicit those responses from him. That's what most of his twitter feed on the english side is comprised of nowadays so unfortunately I stopped following him)

The only times I've seen him get genuinely mad are when people put words in his mouth like this article.(funny enough this isn't the first time something like this has happened)

because then he spends the rest of the day getting harassed by people about something he didn't say.

:lol sounds like Kamiya doesn't care about any of it

That's because he really doesn't

Also, Kotaku didn't set this off. Kamiya was being a dick about PC gaming last night, judging by some retweets that popped up in my feed. Kotaku, if anything, cherrypicked the most innocent tweets.

You mean his responses to the PC port begging of games he may or may not have been involved in?

That article is kind of stupid. The only research the author did on the topic were two out of context tweets and his own generalizations about Japan. Kamiya is being hostile though. I understand given that they called him clueless, when he has made some of the greatest games of the past two generations of hardware.

Pie and Beans

Look for me on the local news, I'll be the guy arrested for trying to burn down a Nintendo exec's house.
Luke Plunkett trying to talk down to Kamiya... I don't even...

"explains your perspective through terrible 'i'm a japanese culture expert' experiences rather than actually seriously just asking you for it".

Not sure Kotaku gets how fucking patronising that article would be to any native Japanese person. Kamiya going beast tier all over Kotaku is getting 2013 off to a delicious start though.

He totally offered an interesting perspective on an entire nation's gaming market/demographic with his forum-post length "article." Completely.

Good piece!

The main idea behind the article is fine. I mean other Japanese developers have outright said similar things to what the article is inferring, while explaining some of the reasoning behind it.(minus the digital distribution phobia bullshit)

The problem is the disingenuous headline and that there is no research or other perspective offered besides an out of context tweet. It's not an article about a Japanese perspective, it's an article about how "The guy who made bayonetta" doesn't understand and isn't interested in PC gaming darling Valve.

and as a result he's been harassed by internet white knights who also didn't seem to read the article.

I don't know how the hell I've managed to go so long without following Kamiya on Twitter.

Probably because I never use Twitter, but still, this thread is gold.

This is bizarre.

On one hand, I feel public figures shouldn't act this way even to stupid bullshit half-yellow journalism.

On the other hand it feels awesome

Yeah, some of Kamiya's replies are kind of questionable... but it is Kotaku

I don't think any less of Kamiya for reacting like this. He's a dude just like the rest of us. Sometimes you get mad and say things you shouldn't and he has every right to be mad right now.

but I think it's weird as hell to see so many people championing this kind of behavior. Especially him using the word foreigner.

Can't say I'm surprised though. Given this thread's history.

I'm pretty sure he'll regret some of the things he's said once he's calmed down, if he doesn't already.
