VGLeaks: PlayStation 4 "Orbis" Roadmap

You can see that but ignore that kz3 surpasses the render in everything except fluidity? C'mon man.

Are you kidding? The polygon counts on the characters in game are still higher than KZ3, plus there's too much fidelity going on in one sequence.

KZ3 does have superior art direction and fire effects compared to the target render.

Yeah. I keep telling people imagine how this trailer would be like on a next gen console... I hope GG does a similar trailer for their game next gen.

There should be more tampons in gaming
The game came close enough http://youtu.be/eFh1o2DVhcs?t=13s

They need to do something else really cool though that makes you think it's CG and then when it's over and crowd goes bonkers, show it's realtime by playing around with at least the camera to prove it.

Killzone with an actual narrative that actually takes advantage of its rich backstory and universe would be enough right there, coupled with some compelling characters with various motives and agendas then I think theres a hit right there.

Show war on a massive scale but still make the battles intimate while being organic. There should be limited scripting but something awe inspiring should always be able to occur even though it will be different for every player. Players should be free to approach a situation in creative ways and not be limited by anything less than their imagination

Or they could revamp KZ in such a way that it's still the KZ we know, love and are accustomed to but it'd be centered around freedom fighting. You'd play as a Helghast whose survived the petricite event at the end of KZ3. You would essentially be fighting a guerrilla war against the ISA who themselves have been twisted into the tyrants they sought to defeat. Essentially the better you performed in battle and allies you kept alive would increase the morale of the people. This would show in the world itself with Helghan being reestablished and the player being able to recruit more support/soldiers and have quicker access and discounted weapons sold by arms dealers who support neither side in the war. There could also being faction wars who vy for control of Helghan. The player would be caught in the crossfire since they are essentially being molded to fit thay role.

Idk what else could be done because we all know there will be a graphic update so we shouldn't concern ourselves with that, only gameplay can really be altered in such a way that KZ becomes more appealing

I said it back in the lttp for Killzone 2 but they really should develop and flesh out the story and lore. People aren't always going to go on there site to get background info on wars that happened previously.

I'm wondering how they'll tackle PS3 games in terms of PR... will they push Gakai right at the PS4 unveiling? Will they somehow pull of BC? Are we going to see PS4 remasters? It's got me curious.

That'd be hilarious if Guerilla actually went through with that. They showed KZ2's cg debut running entirely on PS4 in complete realtime and then after that ended we'd be treated to the actual KZ4 reveal with it being played live. It'd be a nice way of saying "this is PS4 and this is what it can do, and this is a launch game/only the beginning."

KZ4 will look much better than the KZ2 cgi reveal.

Maybe guerilla should make some new ip instead of kz4, considering kz never really set the world on fire.

Guerilla has 2 teams. One team is likely working on Killzone 4 and the other team is making a game set in a fantasy world with RPG elements.

I'm pretty sure it won't. Stig's team is much smaller, focused on R&D, once the GoW:A team finishes up production then Stig's project will go into full production and those members will switch over.

In fact, the only studios I think will have a game out for launch are Guerilla Games, Evolution Studios, and Ready At Dawn. The latter is a question mark (RaD is a smaller team), but Guerilla Games and Evolution studios are pretty much a lock. I think this gives a pretty diverse lineup - FPS, Racer, and Action title.

But the time waiting between games will be smaller. I think there will be a steady stream of high profile content following the launch of the PS4.

Gran Turismo 6 spring 2014, Sucker Punch having a summer 2014 release, Naughty Dog having a fall 2014 showcase title.

And then beyond fall 2014 you will see releases by Media Molecule, Stig's project, David Cage project, and SCEJ titles (Puppeteer devs).
Stig's team was formed in March 2010.

Man.. Imagine Gran Turismo 6 as a launch title at the end of this year for the PS4 @ $399.

Was speaking about it with my cousins yesterday, and yea, that would be the best case, almost realistic scenario. The reality will probably be much worse though.

I definitely expect Gran Turismo 6 on the PS4's first year, as well as at least one Guerilla Games game (Killzone or fantasy IP), as well as Evolutions new racer IP and of course 1 new IP from Santa Monica and Sucker Punch. PS4 will have a crazy first year. I expect Naughty Dog, RaD and MediaMolecule in the 2nd year for PS4.

I think it's believable, if they want to match GT5's features, upgrade all the PS2 models and make it look next gen.

Making it next gen won't be hard. They already said that when they re-did everything for GT5 they did so with the future in mind, i.e, poly models far more detailed than the PS3 could ever handle. In essence they had crazy next gen assets and features, scaled back to function on the PS3. I still believe GT6 could come out sooner than the debacle that was GT5.

The Killzone 2 trailer is interesting, because it has things that current gen lacks and that aren't pure resolution increases, better faces, frames per second or AA. The smoke is probably a pipe dream, but things like the swaying truck when it slides to a halt or fires its autocannon and the pure weight and innertia of the human character models should be high on all devs checklist for next gen. There must be a decent middle-ware solution existing or being made for better human body physics that can be used with increased power, right? Not talking about Euphoria, since that seems to be a rip-off.

Physics, deformation plus animation must take a giant leap next-gen or I'll be really disappointed.

The Samaritan/UE4 vids had sections about cloth physics and anti-clipping at least, so that might be part of UE4?

I imagine Gaikai will be there in some form, I still don't see BC through them though for PS3 games, Cell development has stopped and I think Sony is the only who makes the chip anymore because of the PS3. So a server solution would be costly per person and I don't see them having the funds for something they probably won't make a return on.

PS1/PS2/PSP emulation would all be pretty easy, and I imagine compared to a set up for a PS3 to stream they could get a lot more out requiring far less intensive hardware to do it.

That is of course unless Sony have sorted out any sort of Cell emulation, at which point I imagine it would still be expensive to do server side per user but could happen on the PS4 itself.

I'm glad I wasn't the only one thinking that an SSD was unlikely.

Same here, I can't see it happening, next-gen games are going to require more space than now, and these games are going to have to run from at blu-ray speed which will be less than that of a typical HDD, an SSD is just more cost for less space for advantages they can't take full advantage of.

Sure let people put their own in, but I don't want to have to pay more for something I currently don't see the advantage of when I would rather a couple hundred gigabytes of space more.

Expecting Gran Turismo any year is a dangerous proposition. PD is probably under a lot of pressure from several directions with kaz seemingly spending more and more time doing actual racing / management rather then development and Sony being eager for AAA GT games for every platform as quick as possible.

I think it will be fine for next gen, especially Sony teams seem more care about fluid animation than most companies. Especially ND on Uncharted, the animation like nothing like else when the first one is out.

I have a feeling that KZ4 will get pretty close to the KZ2 target render and have a lot more going on. The CG trailer is pretty static if you look more than a few feet in front of the character. I hope they can match those first person animations though, they look excellent.

Yeah it's very important but I don't think either boxes will have BC.
Sony may provide some sort of "BC" for PS3 titles you have in your PSN account via Gaikai tech or recompiling / rebuilding their code or issuing a big discounts for PS4 "HD remasters" of such titles. I'd say that there is zero chance for any BC of disc based PS3 games though.

I've read some rumors that Sony will provide some dongle with a PS3 SoC for native BC. But to me this sounds BS.

There is code on the discs to identify them for the PS3/4, right? Then they could use those discs as a sort of DRM for Gaikai to stream them, meaning that you have to have them in the drive while playing. Not elegant, but hey, it might work.

We are still making assumptions over what they plan to do with Gaikai.

I wonder if the PS4 will be able to emulate the PS2 though.

I think it should be.

Only question is if they have a software emulator.

They have one for PS3 but it has only limited performance compatibility. Hence the selective PS2 Classics releases on PSN.

Hopefully they are porting it to PS4 and the performance allows, effectively, total compatibility. PSN will still only be able to sell you relicensed games, but discs ought to work, and they could start pursuing far more PSN releases.

I hope anyway!

If PS2 emulation with PCSX2, written by a few hobbyists who need to reverse engineer a PS2, can be done on a decent PC, surely Sony can pull it off since they know the ins and outs of the hardware.

Going from the rumored specs, yes, it should be able to emulate PS2 games fine, especially since the people programming the thing have far better tools to make such an emulator. Hell, they could make it so the game render at 720p if they wanted going off of leaked specs. Question is, will they? Probably not. They'd make more money making the HD collections compatible and selling those, or selling some sort of BC dongle (which they have a patent on).

Nah. The platform is basically dead in the water. Not like, "they could turn this ship around" dead, more like "it's done for" dead. The sales numbers are historically bad.

Ultimately it's a platform that the market simply has no desire for. It's somewhat baffling that Sony would have even put the platform out, but I guess their arrogance prevented them from seeing the writing on the wall.
What writing on the wall do you mean?

Considering how much they have been working in their current projects I'd say that they'll have KZ4 playable in E3, at least in close doors.

Unless fully motion captured as part of cut scene, I think CG trailer will still retain lead in animation. That said in terms of visual fidelity, I boldly propose that it'll look about 70-75% like the CG trailer.

can sony even afford to launch after microsoft? even giving them a few months could be huge.

Would it really? Look at PS3 - a year later, significant price difference and no major difference in hardware units sold.

Arguably, going head to head with Microsoft's marketing dollars could be a more significant roadblock. A few months may give Sony the time and space to properly differentiate their efforts.

That was coming off the success of all conquering PS2. I wouldn't be willing bet their brand is as strong this time around... especially thanks to Vita.

The brand is still pretty strong, especially in Europe, but of course it doesn´t come close to the PS2 days. For consoles that is, handhelds are another story.

they lost all their third party exclusives by being behind so much early on. Ms became the goto system with the COD crowd.
