Halo |OT14| They call it Halo

So Certain Affinity can now say they're the 25th best developer of all time?

They knew their changes would be controversial, I don't think they ever thought their changes would be so universally alienating.

Wait 343 is on it too? Jesus Christ. You know that list is shit. No offense to 343. I said the same about Mojang. One game does not make a developer one of the best developers of all time. Hell even if Halo 4 was perfect it would not earn 343 the right to be called one of the best developers of all time. To be considered one of the best of all time you have to have several games released. There is this thing called one hit wonders. Not saying that 343 will be one mind you.

Ghost Town is a far better map than either Construct or Narrows, and so is Cold Storage.
Cold Storage is decent for FFA, that's about it. Ghost Town is good for... nothing really. It's not that bad, but it's nothing special either. Really forgettable. I'd take Narrows and no-radar Construct over them all day, every day.

Ghost Town is good if you move the defenders to the sniper room, and then rotate the power weapons around the map accordingly.

But I agree with you, Over. Narrows and Construct are better for TS games than Ghost Town and Cold Storage, which are definitely more FFA centered.

That top 50 dev list was actual shit. The guy who made that list has been involved in gaming since 2010. Id is #37? In terms of influence, I would put them above Bungie (#7). But noob Nathan decided to write the article instead and the only way he knows id is from Rage.

I felt like that list should have come from CNN. No history in it at all. Just easy hits and magazine sells (lol) for something they threw up during lunch break.

I’m still surprised that the Halo 4 Terminals have so many new assets created for it. They are for most part not even in the actual game.

David Ellis said that they were intended to go in the game, but came back too late from the outsource company and had to be put on Waypoint.

343 is above Id. Just think about that for a second. The studio that created Wolfenstein, Doom, and Quake behind the studio that made ONE Halo sequel.

Usually I ignore lists cause I find them stupid but this one was so laughably bad.

You did not.
oh, good.

aww, young love. Protip, it doesn't get any easier.

Some people hate uncharted for being a cinematic adventure game. Halo 4 is still broken. People are going back to Reach.

Also, you missed this video (Halo 4 Forge Vidoc)
Holy shit, this video is brilliant. Seriously, bravo to those guys for making it. I was more disappointed in Forge than just about anything; my long-standing urge to make maps for people was completely crushed by this game and its "one step forward, three steps back" map editor.

Uncharted was fine for what it was. I thought it was fun and about as close to the "choose your own cinematic adventure" as one should get. *shrug*

The list is basically the posterchild for how bad "best" lists like that are in the gaming industry. Granted, alot of gaming related things are very subjective, but some things in the list are flat out uninformed.

Do you think Microsoft will launch Halo 2: Anniversary on a limited target group? It would be better to release Halo 2:A on Xbox 360 if it came out this year. Another argument against H2:A is it will steal the show of new IPs. A console launch is the perfect opportunity to drop new IPs. And we know there are several first party studio who have not released any titles the last few years. Or just small games. (Rare, MGSV etc.)
Halo 2 HD will not sell like a major AAA shooter, just like CEA didn't, so it doesn't matter. It's a low cost way to tell your hardcore fanbase that you have a game in your most popular first party franchise at launch.
Why would a game celebrating halo 2 10th anniversary come out in 2013?
It assumingly wouldn't be called Anniversary if it was released this year.

Is it bad the more I play Halo 4 the more I hate armor abilities? Camo just encourages camping like crazy and the jetpack while nerfed a little from Reach still lets your opponent get insane sight lines on you in certain maps.

Plus the boltshot still is OP as hell if you know what your doing.

Plus the random nature of personal ordinance makes them even worse than COD killstreaks. If you're going to go that route at least give me something I want.

Plus Harvest is way too big for 4v4. I don't think I've yet to play a team slayer match that ended with a team scoring enough points as opposed to time running out.

/mini-rant over.

Halo 4 is annoying, but I feel the AA's are much better than the ones in Reach. The only maps I like so far is Haven and Longbow. The gametype/map choices is holding this game back for me the most though. I can't stand CTF with two asymmetrical maps in it.

I'm still playing it, but lol at people going back to Reach. Halo 4 is an improved title, just not enough for a Halo game.

I'd be fine waiting for 2014 for "Halo 2 Anniversary" because that would mean it's on Nextbox and it would look fucking glorious.

And in 2017 we can have "Halo 3 Anniversary" and it would be the definitive Halo game and they would cancel Halo 6 because everyone would just play Halo 3 Anniversary for the rest of their lives.

Mojang was on place 2 ... of course this list is shit.

So was anything updated already this week in Halo 4?

Well I believe the list is primarily focused on modern achievements.

So if that is the case, I'm not surprised.

For a company with the reputation of id Software.. they have been very lackluster this generation.

Halo 2 Anniversary would be fine on the 360. It would complete the set so to speak. All Halo games finally running at 720p ish. I would be happy with that. Leave to the nextbox for the next halo.

I always had fun on Ghost Town with one-sided objective and Team Slayer. Its layout, like Cold Storage in comparison to the following, allows for smoother (and better) back and forth than either Narrows or Construct, I think. The former is very strict and hard due to its spawns (which is caused by its layout), and the latter is very tight with most of the combat being constrained to the upper floor, which makes the combat kind of boring.

Updates start next week

Said that on GAF a week two before Halo 4 launched

Oh man I remember that - I asked him something about them then he said "Would you prefer we cut it entirely?"

Felt really sorry for him leading up to launch, he was getting shit left, right & center from a lot of people, myself included.

More back and forth than Narrows?

The only thing I really remember about Ghost Town was the side room with the tree in it that had two levels and always getting caught on some shitty piece of crumbly-ass floor as I was carpet bombed with grenades.

I guess good memories aside.

Whoa - when did Steitzer's voiceovers (and overlay text) make it into theater clips?

I had a no-scope yesterday that was luckier than most no-scopes I've ever had - I went to clip it, and

  • The medals are there
  • The white text is there
  • 'SNAPSHOT!' is there

Have I just not been paying attention? The last time I grabbed a clip from Theater, none of that stuff showed up!

(Clip is here, for anyone who cares.)

edit: Wu, if you clip it on the first try, the voice over works. It's when you pass the part you want, rewind, and then clip it out is where you lose the voice over

Okay, that's weird... because I re-clipped it three times, because i kept getting the wrong overlay (my name at the bottom, then the recording controls). Huh.

Ghost Town was a decent map. It was a lot of fun to run around on, do some cool jumps and stuff like that. I would say the best gametype on that was Team Snipes. It doesn't touch Narrows or Construct for me though. Those maps with no radar and MLG were just godly.

edit: Wu, if you clip it on the first try, the voice over works. It's when you pass the part you want, rewind, and then clip it out is where you lose the voice over

edit2: Ohhhhhh look at you! No scope was filthy!

I've had issues with Steitzer's voice showing up in some of my clips, but the medals and text have always been in them. Which is too bad, since that's half the reason I save clips. Would be nice if that had been fixed.

Oh, I had no idea. Well that sucks.

Well, that is a dumb thing to say. "Would you prefer we cut it entirely?" Ehm, no? We would prefer it if you did it properly and not half-assed, thank you.

All aboard the dong train... Wu Wu!

Thank God there's no famine skull for this week's campaign challenges. Tilt will be interested though, as I'm not sure how well the suppressor or light rifle work against shields vs. armor.

Nah, that hasn't actually worked in my experience. I clipped a "Stay Back!" medal I got in Extraction the other day by starting the film and not doing anything but play the film normally until the part I wanted, pressing A to start the clip, and pressing it again to end it. No voiceover.
