Being mad at someone for having an opinion about a game you haven't even played yet is madness, no matter how you slice it.
Does it matter if it gets a 9.4 or a 9.7? Does it give you a different experience when playing the game yourself?

Believe it or not but there are some gamers out there who only buy games that got a score over 9.5. Yeah, it's goddamn stupid and sad i know. That's why i said it, especially for a game like Ni no Kuni it is important to get the highest score it can get. This game needs to sell good.
I'm not talking about me btw, i already pre-ordered it and can't wait.
In a world where an 8/10 can mean "don't buy", I'd believe the above wholeheartedly.

I agree it deserves to sell good. At least enough to warrant a sequel with the same quality.
But I think the target demographic already buys this when it gets 80+ reviews. I do that at least, it's just a general indication of the quality. The people buying only games with 95+ scores aren't the ones who play these kind of games, so they'll still ignore it, saying it looks like a kid's game.
And in the end, it is only your experience that matters. If it's a good game you just have played a good game. If it doesn't sell you are not the one losing money on it. It only minimizes your chance of getting a sequel, but, hey, you've still played this good game, right.

Now that's fair enough. For a game like this, it's mostly pre-sold to its audience. Given the fact that very few people talked about the PS3 version on its original release, and buzz about the DS version was generally dreadful, it's interesting to see how many people have talked about buying Ni no Kuni on GAF (which obviously isn't representative of gamers as a whole but probably useful in terms of JRPG discussion).
Maybe the good reviews will expand sales, but I'm not convinced.

The thing about IGN is, that if this game had been a Bioware game it would have received a 10.
The only game from Bioware that's gotten close to a 10 on IGN was Jade Empire, which got a 9.9 (lol). I don't see the issue with getting a 9.4 if there's little bad to say about it.

Yeah, I was more talking from a consumer-investor point of view. For you, a consumer, only the game itself matters, but for investors (or just Level-5 in this case) trying to do something original, the game at least deserves to break even.

Thanks, I actually checked like this morning or was it yesterday, but I see it's up now indeed, nice! I think I'll go digital then, even if it costs a lil more. Easy access on multiple PS3s and environment and all that.It's up on the UK PSN right now for preorder! It comes with the two preorder DLC that Amazon.co.uk gets. Not sure if it's also up for other EU regions, but I'd check just to make sure.

The one ordered from Norway is the same as the one from the official Namco store. A friend and me ordered today and now it's gone on their website. I hope that just means we got the last copies..

Some countries, like Norway, have scoring systems in school where the lower your grade is, the better it actually is.
F.e.: 2.1 is a pretty good score and 4.6 is actually not that good.

Thanks for the info. I have the demo downloaded and ready to rock...I just didn't want to spoil anything. I'm pretty positive it's something I will enjoy but I suppose I should be a responsible father and play the demo.
LOL, no problem. It's always hard since what's acceptable to one parent isn't to another, but I'd say it's pretty safe...at least IMO.

Just a FYI, the EU embargo has lifted early. Hope it's okay to post this, but here's our review (it's bloody long).
For what it's worth, speaking to our guy he said "It's the easiest 10/10 I've ever given". I've played just under 30 hours myself, and I can see why he'd say that!

hm. i hope it comes out next tuesday. sorta want to play day of and 2 day shipping for the wizard edition is eh. If best buy gets it next tuesday i'll just return the 2 psn cards and buy the game (just want to use the $15 certificates)

So is there any variants of the DLC familiars, or they all pretty exclusive in looks?
The evolutions of the Flutterby (pre-order DLC in the UK and Germany) sounds even more akward.
The two forms are "midday Flutterby" and "midnight Flutterby". Here in Germany we at least got just one word to decribe the forms "Mittagsflatterling" and "Nachtflatterling", which means basically the same as those english names...
I imagine that all pre-order familiars (outside of the gold variations) are enemies in the game that eventually can be recruited by everyone. I imagine the stats are different than the versions in the game, though.
