Yes, I know they do. They wouldn't continue making them if they didn't. With that said, you caught me before I clarified my point. They do sell, but not as much as I think they could (sans Gran Turismo, God of War and Uncharted, really) to drive the hardware they need to. Launch time changes things a bit, but over the long term we've seen Sony pump out so many that they can't seem to find a focus. Killzone certainly comes to mind when I think of big budget release not really lighting up the sales charts to a significant level. It obviously sells enough to warrant more, thanks to legs but I'm just making a point that first party stuff against a few big name third party stuff from Microsoft would be interesting.
I fully expect Sony to come out with some big name games, given the studios have been relatively quiet recently. Likewise with Microsoft.
