What kind of apps would you run on a console (besides games) that you wouldn't run on an iPad? Because 512MB is enough for that. That´s exactly what i have been saying. And if Durango´s OS and software feature obliterate Orbis then Sony will have very little maneuverability to do, and will be fucked feature wise. It´s very short sighted of Sony to only put 512MB of RAM to the OS. Very short sighted.
I don't think you have to worry about the Orbis OS not having enough memory to do all the stuff you want it to do while it's running games.
Sony have learned their lesson. They're not stupid.
8850 is not even high-end of 2013 (8950-8970)...
I know this was unrealistic, I'm just a little bit gutted by those specs. The software will look good I suppose but I expected sooo much more specs wise.
At least things will good on the PC side. -
The only point in contention I have with the Eurogamer article is it mentioning "7970m". You cannot just take an off the shelf part and apply the logic of performance. These parts are HIGHLY customized and the base part shares similarities, but the modifications can take it to a whole other level.
Oh that makes sense.Nah, it's because i have 16GB of RAM. Windows uses more, the more you put in. I guess it just keeps a lot of background stuff open to speed things up a bit.

I can probably find some screenshots.
Sadly.it's pretty conclusive that neither of these machines are the behemoths required to offer up a satisfactory VR headset performance on anything more visually taxing than a current gen game.
someone earlier in this thread said it best. The 360 has a lot of great features in its OS doesn't it? Well the PS4 will have 16x the RAM to work with for the OS. Now look at the vita, it uses 256mb for its OS and does a lot of things that people have been asking to be done on the PS4. Just think about that for a second.Ohhh, I'm sure it can do all the stuff NOW. Like, I have full confidence that we will see 360 features in the PS4. I have no doubt.
Its 3 years down the line that I worry. Sony doesn't seem to be future proofing it.
Like someone said, maybe the 720 will be able to record real gameplay and save it to your HDD to put on youtube.
Maybe you can video conference with 7 other people?
Maybe you can use skype to game with your friend? Like Picture in picture.
Maybe use the internet browser to surf the net while the game is on.
I am positive MS will come up with some cool shit. When it comes to that stuff, they have a leg up on Sony. And with 3gb, there is no way in hell Sony could compete.
What if that coprocessor in PS4 is modern Cell that will give backward compability and cover slow GPU ass. Plus Cell can be used for physics calculation (like Agea Physics Processing Unit).
Or maybe they are going in a different direction. That´s exactly what i have been saying. Yeah the first party stuff is going to be insane.Judging by what sony's first party studios pulled off with the PS3 specs, make me very optimisitic for the ps4 exclusives.
uncharted 4 will look godly.

Any news in those 20 pages here?
You must be absolutely silly to think any company would put a 8950 in a closed box.
Thread moving fast!
How official are these specs?

-Maybe you can hook up your cable somehow to it and watch tv while playing a game.
So is 8 Jaguar Cores = 4 steamroller cores? Is each steamroller core actually 2x as powerful?
It would seem to me that 8 Jaguar cores would offer the overall better performance, fully optimized for every core of course.
Exactly. I can't imagine anything that would require more than 512mb that you would want to run at the same time.
I might be wrong though. Would love to hear some examples.
So how powerful is Orbis/PS4?
The specs seem quite weak as far as I'm concerned. I expected 'more'.
I had hoped we would see that same generational leap observed from PS2 > PS3.

The UI, however, has been revamped. It was said today that players will now be able to press the PS button mid-game and travel “anywhere” on the system. An example given was buying DLC from the PS Store mid-game then seamlessly returning to play.
“They’re trying to make it as fluid as possible,” our source said.
We were also told that the machine will be designed to accept system and product updates in the background, and that it’ll “always be in standby mode”. When you set the console up, we were told, you’ll be asked if you want to allow background downloads. You can, of course, disallow them.
What happened to your quad-core steamroller?
I only mention it because I was actually looking for good tussle between them.

Pretty much. This is a very nice leap from PS360 but nothing monstrous about it. Hell isn't the north end of GFX cards in 2013 clocking in at 10 TFLOPs? This pretty much falls in line with what I expected of next gen: respectable performance without breaking the bank, and with the differentiating aspects being services/gimmicks. I'm just happy that the boxes will be efficient so maybe my console won't die 3 years into the cycle *glances at 40 GB Phat Triple*it's pretty conclusive that neither of these machines are the behemoths required to offer up a satisfactory VR headset experience on anything more visually taxing than a current gen game.

One person with inside information suggests that Durango is not using the same 8-core 1.6GHz Jaguar CPU.
Another insider suggests that Orbis doesn't use an AMD 7970M exactly, though it's probably something quite similar.
I don't know about that, that sounds weird.
In any case Crysis 3-level visuals are to be expected at launch, that should be possible.
Sub 800mb. CryEngine 2 as well, which is less optimized.
This post is ridiculous.
1. You have no idea how "future proof" the PS4 will be. You have no idea how future proof Durango will be either. Nobody does.
2. PS3 already did the record and upload to Youtube with Just Cause 2. What's that? PS3 features in 720? I know, shocking isn't it?
3. You can already use the browser in the background while gaming on the Vita. Is the 720 copying from the Vita now? That is your logic with this "Sony copying MS" rubbish. See how ridiculous it sounds?
Also, 5 GB > 3 GB... I notice while making this calculation you completely overlooked that the 5GB is DDR3 and the 3GB is GDDR5. It's been stated that the systems from what we know so far will be very comparable, but don't let that get in the way of your blind MS devotion.
it's pretty conclusive that neither of these machines are the behemoths required to offer up a satisfactory VR headset experience on anything more visually taxing than a current gen game.
isn't it about offering a one stop shop if you will. a place where you can do everything. so while you can video chat using the ipad, wouldn't it be better to video chat while you're playing a game?
there's also the game recording capabilities, which I hope feature big time on both consoles. there have been so many moments that I've wanted to capture this gen, I want the option to do so next gen.
seamless multitasking and app swapping is another.

The PS3 uses a 7600GT variant right? To be honest, that is pretty weak, even for 2006. I had an 8800GTS back then! It's powerful enough to run games like Crysis 2 on very high settings at 60fps and 1080p, at the very minimum. There is reason to believe it will be even more powerful than that, but as a baseline you can be sure of that much.
Merci
