Path of Exile Beta Thread: There Is No Sanctuary in Wraeclast

Something I've never understood is what is the point of classes if everyone can do everything?

If you've ever played D1 or FFX it would make more sense. But it essentially acts as a platform to reach certain builds. But you can get heavily into a different classes specializations if you want to.

You get different quest rewards based on your class. This is only important at the start of open beta and in races. If you have been playing for a few weeks you can collect pretty much every gem in the game.

Ha, I always thought Fetid Pool was the biggest piece of shit in this game. Every time I start a character I always end up chasing one last monster for like 10 minutes to finish that quest off.

it was worse when they didn't tell how many monsters was left. you had no idea if you were searching for 10 or 1.

Yeah, since there's no OB calc, my ideas take more precedence than looking at the calc. The calc is to give an idea. I'm planning to take the Ghost Reaver Keystone that's not even in CB.
Your build has character, that's for sure. It actually gave me a couple of ideas that I might try later on. Here's some notes:

I think that you're spending way too many points to reach stuff that really won't be beneficial enough for you. Increased radius might sound like a good idea but I think you're going overkill on it. I would save all the filler points and ignore mana regeneration (especially since you already grabbed the one from the templar).

I would grab Inner force, along with the two nodes next to it and focus on auras that will benefit you greatly (Grace, Anger, Wrath, Discipline, Purity etc). Your damage is fine so don't worry about that - your main damage output will come from gear, not from passives. Since you're going 2H, you should really prioritize survivability and should therefore start heading towards the middle parts of the tree (that's where all the juicy health-stuff lies). You can also grab 3x10 Elemental Damage nodes and some life regeneration nodes while you're there.

You have a solid thing going on, definitely. I'm just not a big fan of you going through the Witch-tree with the battle plans that you're going for.

Keep us updated! Also, if you know what gems you're going for, tell us :3

Also if anyone is starting and looks for fun build. Just take a witch specialize in lightning damage and choose spark + fork and arc. Later choose a lot of crit chance and multiplier.

Crit spark witch is very very very fun to play.

Most fun about is that when you crit all your sparks will crit. So for example if you fork it those to will auto crit. It is really amazing and fun to watch as screen is shaking non stop from crits.

I had like 25% chance to crit and 300% multiplier. So you had this boss fight with minions. You spark your way... nothing nothin nothing and BAM everybody dies instantly.

Is Critical Strike and Spell Critical Strike the same in the passive tree? Common sense tells me no, but the cluster in the upper left of the tree tucked inside a witch's int/minion cluster looks out of place if they're not related.

Oh man this brings back some good times. I really did enjoy D3 for those first 2 weeks, but after that seeing Act 4 and 5 I knew Blizzard really had no fucking Idea what they were doing. and those BS mobs in nightmare and up.

Kripp really is a legend, pulling off what he did.

I really enjoyed the meta BS that started going around between krippen & Krukan (Or whatever his name was). Every few videos the fans start up some BS fight or something and Krippen makes a video explaining his part in it.

Use to watch his stream in bed on my way to sleeptown :/

Would flicker strike be less useful in group play than solo? I'm assuming mobs have more health and would be harder to kill in one hit so you couldn't chain it.

Spell Critical Strike Chance/Multiplier applies only to spells, while Critical Strike Chance/Multiplier applies to everything.

Critical Strike is overall and other is only for spells

Depend how you create character. I doubt that would matter if you would connect it with crits.

Okay so I know inactive instances get reset, but why can't a portal just take you back to a refreshed instances with the same seed...

i'm getting really annoyed by this

Err there's a million waypoints everywhere.

You're probably missing WP.

No I mean, I tp to town to sell things and turn in quests. Then go use the restroom, grab a snack or take care of something. Come back and now I need to go through this whole area again.

I hate running past people, and when It happens twice in an hour its annoying. Seriously my only gripe is how they handle portals.

There is only one zone that has no waypoints between two areas that do. And zones take like 5-10 minutes.

It's already very casual with TPs and WPs. What you're asking for is like... ultra-casual.

Okay, that's enough PoE for me today... I seriously don't want to burn out before the game's out :lol

Jokes aside, experimenting with so many different things is so fun - I can never grow tired of it!

I get what you want but whole game just have ton of WP everywhere. There is only like one place where you will be using TP that much (vall piramid).

Just started seriously looking into this game, and it seems great. After the open beta is finished and the full game goes live, will all characters and progress be lost?
If so, I can wait until the full release.

This is the "full release". Characters will never wipe again.

Awesome, thanks. Guess I'll start playing as soon as open beta starts then.
Is this game built around multiplayer, or is the single-player experience just as good? Not really interested in playing with others for the time being.

I'm going all out increased AoE for ground slam to compensate the lack of "range is end-game". I've built this build without the middle nodes pre-913, and the range was pretty far. This is really just going to test how much further I can get. Increased AoE and Ground Slam is the basis of the build.

I've done too much blood magic that I don't know how much that 40% regen node means. I had blood magic in the build before, but it kills ES regen and losing the mana from all that int doesn't feel optimal. I'm thinking having auras eat the bulk of my mana and having high mana regen will be good enough for my Ground Slam build.

Because I'll be picking up that ES leech keystone, I'll probably be looking more at getting more ES.

9/10 NeoGAFfers don't understand statistics. The other 3/10 don't care.
Ah nuts I missed it, ah well three days to go eh.

Do they sell posters of the game... like with the huge a Path of Exile logo?

The supporter pack one is nice, but I'm gonna try and advertise it at work.

Looking to give this a try once open beta hits. Blood Magic peaks my interest and I want to try a Witch/Life Steal/Minion/Blood Magic character. As long as the combat is fun, the loot and tree system really interests me and it could be something I play for a long time.

Man fuck this game I can't decided on an alt. I know I want a sucide bombing minion witch as my main. But for an alt I've got it down to a lightning, lifestealing crit build shadow or a dualist mace build with added frost for stunlocking. Though I would also like to try a templar because the staff looks awesome and I'd like a Hawkeye-esq toon but not so soon after my first caster.

Ugh!

I would plan out what gems you are going to be using for your witch. Then find out which ones she won't get from rewards and find out who gets them.

This will be out of date by OB: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/lv?key=0Anunpnd0-mAudHIxazRvZGpqLXdlQ3JfT0hkWVRjV2c&toomany=true#gid=0

but I would use that. Kripp is making a new one for alpha.

Would be awesome if we could use a controller for this game

I honestly prefer the 360 version of Torchlight to the PC version because I can be more lazy when I play it but it had much simpler abilities than this game.

Ah shit, screwed up my build... I thought Ghost Reaver was the new one that's coming, but the new one isn't really what I want. Oh well. I'll think of something in OB.

Somehow I completely overlooked the different League's. Holy shit! Can't wait to play in a Cut-Throat or Attrition league. Cut-throat especially sounds great, but it also seems like it could have some issues.
